to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

I've just got off a 13 hour flight. As far as I could tell, all passengers were wearing "normal" clothes. I was particularly looking out for onesies too.

Oh, and the toilets were cleaned twice during the flight and stayed pristine.

@PhoneLock - stop ruining the narrative about the toilets being awash with piss!

bpirockin · 06/12/2019 15:44

Aww bless you, the thought of a "multi-coloured and spotty lost baby seen roaming airport " made me smile.

Be comfortable, I always get cold on flights, and those little draughts are horrid.

Be cosy and have a lovely time in Perth.

I make this journey regularly, Live in Aus, never seen anyone wearing a onsie, not that matters, but you might be just as comfortable in Yoga pants, soft material and comfortable, with long sleeved Tshirt, and layering, for warmth. Remember to pack a change of clothes for the end of the journey, as it will be quite warm if you are coming in summer, 36 to 40 degrees celcius for example.. best wishes for your trip

PhoneLock · 07/12/2019 00:11

It's not that warm at the moment. I think the OP did the right thing.

“It's not that warm at the moment“

It was 39 in Perth yesterday! Bit cooler today though 40 degrees forecast for Thurs and Fri again.

PhoneLock · 07/12/2019 01:05

What is it now? I checked the weather forecast earlier and it looked like a jumper and an umbrella was going to be needed today.

Aridane · 07/12/2019 01:11

Siri tells me it's between 19 - 26 with a chance of rain!

jillowarriorqueen · 07/12/2019 01:56

Wear the onesie and who the hell cares? Be comfy, own it. Happy flying.

alwayscrashinginthesamecar1 · 07/12/2019 06:24

It’s 26 and overcast today. It warms up again to 33 on tues, then 40 forecast for Thurs and Fri.

Namestranger, can I be really cheeky and ask you to report back on your flight? I so nearly booked it for this trip but bottled and came Thai via Bangkok, but the transit experience was a nightmare (late first leg left only 15 minutes to reach the gate for the second, so visualise lots of excuse me and ducking under queue tapes!) I come every year (family here) and might try non-stop next time if you recommend it.

Enjoy Perth, swim between the flags, be sure to spend time in Kings Park and at Matilda Bay, cover up from the sun. It's actually rained here today - been cooler, too, and won't get properly hot again till Wednesday. 👍

Have a fantastic trip, OP

Ahardknocklife · 07/12/2019 08:12

I personally wouldn't wear a onesie but I do take a pair of comfy lounge style pjs and a rugby short and change into those when on the plane. You need to be comfortable

PH30B3 · 07/12/2019 10:06

Ive changed into a lounge wear set on a long haul flight I did get looked at but more of a good idea type vibe than a urgh what you doing type thing. Somebody even said good idea!
Enjoy your flight.

HouseworkAvoider10 · 07/12/2019 10:27

Good luck with that.
the toilets are always filthy by about mid way through a long haul flight.
there'll be piss all over the floor, which will make it very hard for you to go to the loo, without getting the piss of about other 100 people on your clothes.
boak.

RockinHippy · 07/12/2019 10:39

Who cares what other people think. If they judge you on this they are shallow dickheads & their opinion isn't worth worrying about. Any decent person is more likely to look & think "ooo, wish I'd thought if/had the guts to do that":

Just do what makes you happy & comfortable, you are harming no one

You really need to choose a better airline. See my post on the previous page.

Namestranger · 07/12/2019 11:15

If by any chance the MNer who is also traveling to Perth today is one of the two people currently at the gate that have already come to check on me because am crying because am scared then thank you v.much pal. ❤️ I couldn't fit the onesie in, in the end.

A tiny old Italian lady who speaks no English at all has put herself in charge of me and is making me laugh even though I haven't a clue what she's saying. People are lovely.

Not really PL.
How much time do you really think the crew spend cleaning the toilets during flights?
plus, piss and shit and particles dry and get caught on handles, taps, floors, seats etc.

mimarbia
They give you PJ’s in business and first class anyway so there’s no reason at all why you shouldn’t change into something more comfortable

Love that this poster assumes OP is in BC/FC Grin

Well there’s an anticlimax Grin

Have a safe flight OP!

Hope you bought your snorkel for the toilets that will be ‘swimming’ in puss Grin

BringMeTea · 07/12/2019 11:59

Aw bless the Italian granny. You'll be right OP. Deep breaths.

Aridane · 07/12/2019 13:12

Aw bless you, OP - only 17 hours more to go!

Well, she really isn’t. like various other posters on this thread, they are simply making the point that if even in upmarket business / first class sleep wear is permitted- actually even handed out by the airline! - then of course it is also fine in economy!

Rottnest · 07/12/2019 15:11

nearlygranny I have done this journey on the Dreamliner, direct flight a couple of times since the direct flight was offered, with Quantas, I found it much easier than changing flights in Dubai or S Asia etc. no waiting times to change planes, journey time reduced, comfortable seats, very pleasant and professional cabin crew. I am not young. I would not even consider flying another route to UK/Europe from now on, Hope this helps
