to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

When you go to the loo bunch it around your knees rather than at your feet. That will keep it out of the way enough but off the floor. It took me a while of weeing on my trousers on squat toilets before I worked that out. I know the plane won’t have a squat toilet but the principle is the same.

Comfort above all else in my book. Good eye shade and earplugs and you’ll be snug as a bug.

You’re camping?!!

Not all the time, youth hostel, Airbnb and some camping in the middle in DPs camper. The site has a kitchen and showers/loos AND a pool! Crown Grin

Utterly impractical in the toilet. There is no space, the floor by the end of the flight will be horrible, the seat, the outside of the toilet, you just won’t be able to manage a onesie and keep it off the floor, the toilet sides etc.

It will be difficult getting in and out of it in your seat , take up room in your hand luggage, your leggings / hoodie combo is better. Take a slanket if you must (and if they still exist) or a fleece blanket. The airline blankets are a bit crap.

FrostythefeckinSnowman · 04/12/2019 21:13

Yoga pants are super comfy so I’d recommend wearing these rather than a onesie. You can double up and wear them as jammies when you get home.

MinervaSaidThat · 04/12/2019 21:14

Ah sorry if you can’t afford it then of course it’s fine.

CherryPavlova · 04/12/2019 21:14

I wouldn’t worry about appearance but would be concerned about sleeves dangling in dribbled urine on the floor.

amusedbush · 04/12/2019 21:15

Toilet issue aside, any long haul flight I have been on has either been freezing cold or so hot I’ve felt sick. I’d wear layers and just take my chances!

Strictly1972 · 04/12/2019 21:15

I absolutely would. I look forward to the day I can go on a long haul flight & be brave enough time remove my bra for comfort too 😂

IdiotInDisguise · 04/12/2019 21:15

Honestly, a onesie, in a longhaul flight!

Fancy getting out of it in hurry by a urine stained toilet in a tiny space in a hurry. Are you mad??? Grin

No, get something comfy and bring a nice blanket with you (some of those provided by the airlines are tiny and thin)

DobbyTheHouseElk · 04/12/2019 21:16

I wouldn’t. Airplane loos are grim.

CherryPavlova · 04/12/2019 21:16

They give you quilts anyway, so make sure you can remove items easily if you get too warm.

Hi OP what you are planning to take in your hand luggage sounds good. I always have a back up outfit on case of spills. The qantas flight to Perth is fantastic! Very comfortable and relaxing ( really!). Lots of films, box sets etc available in the seat back screen. Not sure about the blue tooth but they give you headphones anyway ( and usually some flight socks too). Good idea to take extra pillow and a pashmina type scarf to make yourself comfortable. And the bottle is a good idea for water. You can wander up and down and ask the crew to fill it for you rather than wait for them to come round. They turn the lights down for a long time during the flight to simulate ' night' but you can always visit the food prep areas to ask for a snack or coffee etc if you are awake. Finally if you have not already got the qantas app it is worth downloading and you might want to think about joining one world (BA or qantas) to collect airmiles. They stack up for the future. Enjoy the trip!

My Dad’s partner always changes into soft yoga pants and a jumper on flights. Sounds lovely to me but can never be arsed to pack a second outfit Confused

For what it’s worth I’d prefer a person in a onesie to the passengers who take their shoes and socks off!

nameymcnamechangeagain · 04/12/2019 21:18

I wouldn’t hesitate! Different rules apply once you hit the airport if you ask me!!

Namestranger · 04/12/2019 21:19

Thanks Busybusy1busy1 super helpful! I got the app but my points haven't appeared?

I think maybe I should bring my own snacks, of they'll fit in my cabin backpack! Am vegan and I requested the vegan meal on board but I'm super greedy so will probably want about five times as much food as they're serving! Grin

It's fine for children, not for adults. Could you get a slanket? A onesie is going to be tricky in a small aeroplane toilet and you wouldn't want it dragging on the floor Envy (not envy!)

Including Chardonnay at 10am I hope! Xmas Grin I hate takeoffs so much!! I've even booked the little hotel at Heathrow for the night before so I'm not stressed in the morning 😬

Absolutely this. Airplane toilets are grim Af never mind 17 hours.
Not sure who gives you quilts, I’ve flown long haul a lot including bc and never had a quilt.

TiptopJ · 04/12/2019 21:23

I've never thought of this before and I think it's a bloody brilliant idea Smile

CMOTDibbler · 04/12/2019 21:23

I've flown long haul more times than I like to think about, and am all for comfort, but the loo floor would totally put me off a onesie. My normally preferred outfit is either my Primark thermal leggings (I love them deeply), hoodie and long line vest underneath or more commonly a jersey maxi skirt, t shirt, and zip hoodie so I can put leggings underneath if I'm cold and can easily get my compression socks on and off. I have thick socks and a pashmina.
Rather than pack a onesie that you are unlikely to use on the rest of the trip, I'd pack the biggest fleece blanket that fits into your hand luggage so you can wrap it round you or roll it up to get more comfortable

Outsomnia · 04/12/2019 21:23

If OP or someone has to ask this question I often wonder why?

BLX. sorry, We all know what we are comfortable with/in. End of.

Pateontheback · 04/12/2019 21:25

Your points won’t appear until you’ve taken the flight.
I hate the take off too, I’m usually clinging on like a white knuckle ride.it wouldn’t stop me from flying but until I’m at the cruising altitude flying in a straight line I can’t relax

nononever · 04/12/2019 21:26

A onesie is probably the most impractical thing you could wear on a plane. Yes you will be cozy but as others have said it will be a nightmare in the loo. I'm assuming you know the lack of room in a plane toilet. Buy a pair of fleecy pyjamas, you will get plenty of wear out of them on your return if you suffer from cold. Personally I find plane blankets are quite a decent size and you could always ask for extra.

Namestranger · 04/12/2019 21:26

What's BLX?

JingsMahBucket · 04/12/2019 21:27

This is like wearing pyjamas on a flight. Those your inside clothes, not meant for public consumption. Just wear sweatpants for crying out loud. YABU.
