to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

I would go for lovely knitted loungewear, purely for the toilet situation

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 04/12/2019 21:43

YANBU. But weeing.

I'd go with soft leggings and a massive hoodie I think.

I work on planes and have seen plenty of people (adults and children) wear them on long hauls! Not weird at all.

carly2803 · 04/12/2019 21:44

i wouldn't, just for the toilet issue.

Iwould go in leggins and take some fluffy feeling joggers!

On Virgin (UpperClass),:you're actually given Panama's to change into!

Pajamas, not Panama's 🤣

Bloody autocorrect

My point was that pajamas are fine (don't know about Panama's )

If I was still bendy enough to wriggle into and out of a onesie at my seat (wearing leggings/tshirt underneath of course) I’d definitely wear one. Especially if it has a hood. I like to wear a hood on a plane to keep the draughts at bay. A balaclava would be ideal...

Back2Bali · 04/12/2019 21:50

@BarbaraofSeville oh yes I'm with you on the (wet for me) suit sleeves I've never been on a boat where there was another female diver them loos are grim!

iMatter · 04/12/2019 21:52

I used to travel a lot for work - lots of overnight flights

I had the most amazing cashmere long sleeved top and bottoms and used to wear them. I would definitely go with whatever makes you comfortable

Dementedswan · 04/12/2019 21:53

Thermal fleece lined leggings are very comfortable and warm. I wore them on bonfire night and was toasty. Why not get a pair of them, wear under a nice long jumper with a vest underneath. Pair of slipper socks under your shoes which you could take off and Bob's your uncle x

PrettyPurse · 04/12/2019 21:58

Oh god. I could pee on it by accident, that would be awful.

It's not your pee that you should worry about....

Outsomnia · 04/12/2019 21:58

Onesies are fine in your home IMV.

Anywhere else they are a disaster because..... as others have said the toileting issue.

Pulling your onesie down is not easy if you are in desperate need of the loo whether no.1 or no.2.

But whatever, those who choose to wear these garments will know what it is like!

BlessedBeTheFruitCake · 04/12/2019 21:59

I would maybe buy a slanket? A onesie sounds great apart from going to the loo! The blankets they usually give out on flights (ime) aren't really that big or warm.

I hate flying too OP & have been on a few long haul flights this year (after not flying for a number of years) & I absolutely think you should wear it. I don’t wear onesies at home so wouldn’t on a plane either but can completely understand how you’d feel more comfortable in one. Not to mention it sounds like an item that makes you smile if it was a gift from your Mum.
In the end I actually really enjoyed the long haul flights despite utter terror during take off. How often are you forced to be still (ish!) for that long.
Have a wonderful time Smile

Soggy with other people's wee.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 04/12/2019 22:06

I think you already have your onsie OP, But the DSes got onsies for halloween (pikachu, and that grey one) - and they have unzippable bottoms - so you can unzip, expose your bottom and sit down on a toilet.

That's the only type of onsie I'd wear in a plane toilet.

LightDrizzle · 04/12/2019 22:06

Literally got off a flight from the UAE 3 hours ago. I didn’t see onesies, but I did see people going into the bog in their socks and even bare feet! Standing in other peoples wee!
Honestly a onesie will be treacherous in those tiny loos. Layer up and ask for an extra blanket. You wear your seatbelt over your blanket so that helps keep it in place.
Sorry to hear you’ve been unwell, I hope you have a wonderful time in Perth.

fishonabicycle · 04/12/2019 22:08

Where what you want darling! Hope it goes okx

Aridane · 04/12/2019 22:09

I really wouldn't bother with the stress of buying new loathes fro a flight in less than x2 days when you have your tried and tested onesie. Take that or anything else you're comfortable in.

headlock · 04/12/2019 22:09

I wouldn't fancy going to the toilet on a plane in a onesie. Joggies and sweat top? Comfy and easier!

mbosnz · 04/12/2019 22:10

I hate my bras with a bloody passion. I've got a skin tag that the underwire rubs on. The lights go dim and no-one can see anything nohow.

Thestrangestthing · 04/12/2019 22:11

I can honest say I would not care one bit if I saw someone wearing a onesie to go on a flight. Anyone who would care needs to get a grip.

Daisydoola · 04/12/2019 22:12

On a recent long haul flight after about 6 hours the toilets were dripping in piss and the floor was sodden.

A onesie would be just the thing to absorb it all up.

If you wear it, take it off before using the loo.
