to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

I think it's absolutely fine. If you're under 10.

Not sure where draughty would come from in a sealed plane at 35000 feet.

Zzzz19 · 04/12/2019 21:06

If you can blag a weeks worth of sleeping tabs from your Doc, do it. Pop one when ready to sleep and you will sleep like a baby for 8 hrs or more. I always take a sleeper on a plane and it makes an incredibly long journey pretty short.

Yabu. Ask for two blankets or take a scarf.

Teensruletheroost · 04/12/2019 21:07

Sorry have to echo not to wear a onesie. You won’t be able to change comfortably or go to the loo without it trailing on the bathroom floor and potentially other people’s wee. Plane toilets get a bit grim after a while.

I would definitely do warm Fleecey PJs or fleece lined leggings. Primark do some cheap stuff which is worth looking at.

I mean like cold plane air creeps into tiny cracks in blankets. Sorry am probably not explaining very well. Am quite underweight so am constantly cold atm, even under my quilt at home!

Do it. You need to be warm and comfy.

It's not going to affect any other passengers at all. YANBU.

needsomehelptoday · 04/12/2019 21:08

Difficult to use the toilet in that on a plane.

Warm joggers or leggings and a blanket.

YahBasic · 04/12/2019 21:08

We’re flying to Perth this weekend too!

Take a USB cable, download stuff from Netflix, BBC etc. I take a pair of flip flops too so I’m not having to stuff my feet back into trainers to go to the loo.

Vaseline - not just for lips but for dry nostrils too. I keep a separate pouch with paracetamol etc, toothpaste and toothbrush. Then a different one with tech ie iPad, headphones, charger, kindle and the little headphone two pronged adaptor so I can use my headphones for the inflight entertainment.

Eyemask, extra jumper and a flight pillow and that’s me sorted!

Excited101 · 04/12/2019 21:08

I absolutely wouldn’t, the loos alone would be a nightmare! I think you’re overthinking it to be honest, Cheap jogging bottoms would be the way to go, though I’ve always managed in jeans.

Planes are super draughty! Just the person behind you having their air on gives me neck ache.

As well as the joggers, I'd buy a big snuggly pashmina size scarf to snuggle in. Those thin blankets are crap and mean

Ooh on Saturday??

TimeIhadaNameChange · 04/12/2019 21:09

I would. Just take it off and leave it on your seat when you go to the loo.

whattodo2019 · 04/12/2019 21:09

No! No adult should ever wear a onesie...
Why not opt for a sort velour style, jogging bottoms and top with a silk top underneath. Warm wool socks and a blanket.

Back2Bali · 04/12/2019 21:10

Ahh I retract my wear it! I didnt think of the loo situation.... I dont wear onesies so it didnt cross my mind..
my tips for long haul
Make a pack containing
Face wipes
Hand sanitizer
Little pot of moisturizer
Little pot of face cream
Lip balm
Tooth paste & brush
Pain relief... nothing worse than a headache on long haul!
Some of them slug looking gel eye patch things
Eye cream and drops
Some mascara..

Once I've changed I usually pop to the toilets take my makeup off put on eye and face cream drops in eyes, moisturize arms crush teeth, return to seat out on the slug gel things and eye mask pop in ear plugs and get myself off to sleep.....

Ooh and if you're sleeping fasten seatbelt outside of any blanket (blanket type) you're using.. it will stop the stewards walking you up if the sign comes on.. you can ask the person next to you to give you a nudge as the food and drinks come around... avoid caffeine and alcohol stick to water

PinkiOcelot · 04/12/2019 21:10

You’re camping?!!

20viona · 04/12/2019 21:10

I'd get some nice matching loungewear instead.

saraclara · 04/12/2019 21:10

The thought of dealing with a onesie in the tiny plane toilets with 'wet' floors is making me squirm. And I'm generally unfussy and not at all germ-phobic. I really wouldn't want to do that though. Blegh.

Bunnybigears · 04/12/2019 21:11

Yabu because of plane toilets can not be safely negotiated in a onsie.

Seahorseshoe · 04/12/2019 21:11

I bet you get loads of people saying they wished they'd thought of it. Once you're on the plane, I see no problem with it at all.

Have a great time in Australia!

roiseandjim · 04/12/2019 21:11

I'm always boiling on flights- my last long haul one was on Oct and I was sweating it was so hot!

Namestranger · 04/12/2019 21:12

I can't afford it, I can't afford anything atm Xmas Grin

If you can spare a fiver, Primark do fleece lined leggings which are really warm and cosy. Have a good flight.

MinervaSaidThat · 04/12/2019 21:12

Fleece pyjamas are more convenient than a onesie. You’ll have to zip it down to your ankles and stop it touching the floor when you’re in the tiny airplane loo a dozen times during the flight.
