to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

Harsh but I was thinking something similar. I hope you have some a lot money for the trip, OP. Otherwise Perth is a long way from Tipperary when you can’t afford £5 on a pair of joggy bottoms.

Very true! We were in Perth earlier this year and it's not cheap. Absolutely loved it, one of our best holidays to date.

So you'll have to get naked in the tiny loo and get your onesie all covered in strangers piss? Sounds great

AttheMarket31974632 · 05/12/2019 13:42

I've flown long haul, this is what I do;

Loose fitting, comfortable clothes, layers
A large wrap/scarf

Flight suppression socks to help stop DVTs

Don't drink too much alcohol, drink water

There will be films, music, TV on the plane, headphones are provided

A head rest croissant shaped pillow

Planes can be extremely hot or cool, so beware !

Aridane · 05/12/2019 13:45

Why on earth would she have to get naked?!!! Have you ever worn a onesie?

StarlightLady · 05/12/2019 13:48

Of course your new being unreasonable. But as previoudly mentioned it’s not fun when you go for a wee.

NoSauce · 05/12/2019 13:54

I wouldn’t. What if you get hot? You’re stuck in it unless you put a t shirt underneath and take the top not off. I’d just go for comfy pants and t shirt/top with a pashmina.

Aridane · 05/12/2019 13:58

@NoSauce - OP has previously indicated she will be dressed underneath!

NoSauce · 05/12/2019 14:01

Alright keep your wig on!

Aridane · 05/12/2019 14:14

Keep your comfy pants and pashmina on Grin

Couldn’t imagine trying to go to the toilet without draping all over the floor.. bleurgh.
Also you can get fleece lined leggings that are really warm . I wouldn’t wear a onesie even indoors let alone out of it and I have spinal issues

ambereeree · 05/12/2019 14:29

Cheap joggers and a long top with hooded fleece. Onsie would be very difficult in the washroom.

purplecorkheart · 05/12/2019 15:01

Why not buy one of those blankets that have sleeves? It would make sure there are no gaps and you still will be able to use your hands. I know your budget is limited but normally you can pick them up quite cheaply this time of the year.

The last long haul flight I was on did not allow blue tooth.

I would pack a couple of disinfectant wipes and wipe down the table etc.

Yabu...have you seen the state of the toilets halfway through a long haul flight? Between small boys and men the floor is covered in sticky wee. You'd have a job not drag the arms across the floor when you take it down to wee yourself. 🤢. Blanket over the knees and a giant warm robe style jumper.

Scarriff · 05/12/2019 17:36

You are going to be a lot worse than cold if you pee on your onsie while stripping down, or dip it in someone else's pee on the floor. Get some comfy joggers and a fleecy top with a t shirt. Socks AND slippers. Change of knickers. Yes really. Toothbrush, wet wipes and some moisture stuff. Engrossing book. There you go.

Stupiddriver1 · 05/12/2019 17:41

Take a sleeping bag. No draughts and easier to slip out of for loo visits.

exaltedwombat · 05/12/2019 17:46

Yes, you'll look insane. Do it!

Fowles94 · 05/12/2019 17:49

The blankets on planes and I can't get comfy in them knowing they've been used prior (despite being laundered). Wear the onesie with pride 😊

Childcare12 · 05/12/2019 17:49

Go for it and be comfortable and enjoy the flight

Oscarsdaddy · 05/12/2019 17:59

Go for it

Wintersleep · 05/12/2019 18:02

People come to lectures in them and I see people in supermarkets with them so why not, as long as your comfy. It hardly impacts on anyone else's life

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 05/12/2019 18:08

Eh, if you'll be more comfortable that way then don't worry about what you look like, but isn't it going to make peeing in a tiny plane toilet a bit challenging?

Birdshitbridgegotme · 05/12/2019 18:09

Can u get one with a 'zipped flap' then it will be easy using the toilet

lynxca16 · 05/12/2019 18:10

Would not suggest a onesie for a 17 hour flight - as someone previously stated very nicely 'grim toilets' which occur towards the end of long haul flights and the taking down and trying to keep leg bottoms dry - total nightmare. Sorry don't mean to be graphic but!

I find comfortable loose fitting cuffed leggings (M&S did lovely silky ones, a vest and cashmere jumper (I buy cheap on e-bay) but Tesco have lovely soft hooded tops for £12 which would be perfect.

Wear comfortable laced trainers and soft socks - I can take them off and when landing can tie them despite ankle swelling.
