to wear a onesie on a long haul flight?

I'm frightened of flying and taking my first ever long haul flight on Saturday! 17hrs straight to Perth. I am packing everything I can think of to make my journey comfortable but am wondering if IABU to wear a onesie on the plane? I have scoliosis so I wriggle into weird positions a lot which makes jeans feel uncomfortable sitting for long periods...yet I find in leggings I get incredibly cold on planes. My late mum bought me a super soft spotty onesie...WIBU to wear it over leggings and a singlet once we board or will I look insane?!

Not ideal, the toilet situation will be a nightmare in a onesie. A 17 hour flight those toilets are going to be grim and you are going to have to try and get a onesie off in a tight space without it (arms especially!) dragging on the floor & sides.

Oh yeah the loos are normally swimming :(

If there's one thing worse than aeroplane food, it's vegan aeroplane food. I always bring tons of snacks. Pringles are good.

Wear your onesie - who cares - straight from the start or change just before or when you get on the plane . I’ve personally never experienced grim toilets on a flight . If it is bring it to the attention of the flight crew . Have a lovely time .

You might be better stowing your laptop - it would be seriously squeezy to try and have it on your table or knee during the flight. TONNES of movies & TV anyway to watch on your screen (on the seat in front of you), and much easier if you want to sleep. We normally use headphones (rather than earbuds) as they are much more difficult to lose! You'll be given these on the flight, too.

You can't take full water bottles through security. Empty it land-side, then fill again once you're through.

Most important - enjoy it and have fun when you get to the other end

agree on toilet situation, for that situation I would not wear a onesie. I wear firm support tights under leggings on flights, helps stop swelling and keep warm. On top I wear layers and take a big sarong to sleep under. If taking snacks don't make mistake I did of having nuts only as was on a flight where we were asked not to eat nuts due to some1 with severe allergy on board.

OP, could you get comfy fleecy joggers and top as this would be so much easier than a onesie. Mind you, the onesie does sound very comfy for a long flight! Hope you have a lovely time

ThistleTits · 05/12/2019 18:35

Wear whatever you like but do you have even a short stopover?" Perhaps a "lounge suit" would be comfortable.

Fredastaireatemyjamsandwich · 05/12/2019 18:51

Hope you have a fantastic holiday! Have you thought about taking a couple of large scarves/sarongs? wrap one around your shoulders; lay one over your seat and after you sit downfold it over your legs. Then put the airline blanket over your body/scarves. No draughts!

VK456 · 05/12/2019 18:54

I’ve done a couple of long haul flight and wore elasticated loose trousers and a loose top. It was as close to wearing pyjamas using normal clothes as I could get!

Sparklybaublefest · 05/12/2019 18:56

i wanted to suggest some nice loose cotton dungarees but apparently op doesnt have time to shop.

Jeeperscreepers69 · 05/12/2019 19:04

Airline might not allow it. Personallyi wouldn't. Primark do fleecy leggings.

Mafrid2 · 05/12/2019 19:10

You can get fur lined leggings.... But I can't remember where from xxxx sorry xxx

PhoneLock · 05/12/2019 19:15

Perhaps a "lounge suit" would be comfortable.

I really doubt it!

di2004 · 05/12/2019 19:16

Maybe wear with a belt in the airport ( will look like a jumpsuit) ... and relax on the plane! Enjoy xx

Loopytiles · 05/12/2019 19:19

The loo issue would put me off.

Leggings and thick socks / blanket?

mimarbia · 05/12/2019 19:25

They give you PJ’s in business and first class anyway so there’s no reason at all why you shouldn’t change into something more comfortable.

Nearly47 · 05/12/2019 19:29

Fly long haul loads. Toilets are tight and queues long. Wouldn't want to be dealing with onesies. Those velour tracksuits are great for traveling.

Whathappenedtothelego · 05/12/2019 19:33

I would do it. Just wear leggings and a top underneath it, and always just slip out of it in your seat before braving the toilet, then put it back on when you return.
Not really any different to wearing a blanket draped over you at your seat, but makes a difference if you are cold. (I'd have blanket and onesie, nobody will see it anyway under the blanket.)
I'd just think someone wearing one on a long haul flight was sensible.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/12/2019 19:35

blankets on planes and I can't get comfy in them knowing they've been used prior (despite being laundered)

You do know that other people have sat in the seat, don't you? And that hasn't been laundered.

Mummadeeze · 05/12/2019 19:42

Why in the hell not! Life is too short to worry about things like this. If you want to, just do it!

Jack80 · 05/12/2019 19:44

I would wear leggings you and get winter ones that have fleece in and bring a blanket. You will have a problem in a onesie in the loo or get some fleece pjs.

Fowles94 · 05/12/2019 19:46

@BarbaraofSeville we may be different but I don't normally wrap an aeroplane seat round my face to keep warm, but hey each to their own.

Jellybeansincognito · 05/12/2019 19:58

If you got a dark brown/ black/ dark purple onesie then yeah fair enough, I think you’d get away with it.

Good luck for your flight!
