To not understand some mnetters obsession with wearing pyjamas

Sure, it's nice on a dark winter's evening to relax in pj's in front of the telly. But I see threads on here where posters can't wait to get in the door after work to put them on, or don't want visitors on Christmas day because they can't stay in their pyjamas etc etc.
What's the big deal about wearing pyjamas? Yes they're comfy but it's not like most modern clothes are tortuous to wear.

OP posts:

I don't see anyone getting 'wound up'. Are we only allowed to start threads about things that are driving us around the bend? I must have missed that memo.

I have to agree with you on that.
I've read (never started: far too scared) threads that, like yours, ask mild questions about something that you've noticed is mentioned here but not something you've come across yourself, or - at least - not in a big way.

Inevitably pretty soon there are posts asking why you've got your knickers in a knot/are tearing your hair out/are writhing on the floor, gnawing your wrists with angst etc about it.

Maybe it's an AIBU thing. Perhaps AIBU produces different posts from those on Chat.*

Anyway. I sometimes wear clothes similar to pyjamas around the house. I think of those as "lounge wear" as "pyjamas" just make me think of clothes worn in bed. If I've been working or wearing something smart, I change into something more informal when I get in. Otherwise, I wear comfortable clothes anyway.
I certainly wouldn't change into my night clothes immediately on getting home and then sleep in the same things. I appreciate a lot of people here have "day" and "night" pyjamas though.

*Wondering if I could get sponsored to write a dissertation on this so I could loaf around on MN all day while sporting my pyjamas lounge wear Smile

gamerwidow · 02/12/2019 16:32

I don't like wearing pyjamas unless i'm going to bed or have just got up.
I hate the idea of having dinner in pyjamas, I don;t know why but it just feels manky.

MzPumpkinPie · 02/12/2019 16:50

Every day since the start of August I've woken up about 11 am or sometimes 1pm , showered / washed hair etc all with great difficulty and I've changed into clean lounge pants and a long sleeve t shirt.
I've got horrible fluid retention from the drugs I'm on.
Straight on the sofa , projection screen pulled down, projector on and binge on Netflix and amazon box sets.
I've been seriously unwell and have no energy or the capability to do anything else.
I can only go out to go to hospital or doctors appointments or I'm absolutely wiped out for days.
Then I will wear a midi dress or midi skirt and a nice top and ballet flats, do my makeup and blow dry my hair.
I might be hobbling along and in pain but I feel like me again.
I used to love getting in and putting my pjs on but seriously the novelty has worn off.
I keep buying nice clothes online I know I won't wear for a while.
Think I might have a burning of the lounge pants ( I own 8 pairs now 🤦‍♀️) ceremony.
Hopefully ASAP because the lazy life is just beyond boring now!

My DH can relax and be comfy at home without looking like a slob - and so do I. We are lucky we agree that neither ever feels the need to wear tracksuits.

I don't even buy tracksuits for my kids until I have to for school, so they don't like them either!

Schwibble · 02/12/2019 16:55

I'd rather go naked than wear pyjamas Grin

FizzyIce · 02/12/2019 16:59

@Nojustyou And you sound hard work!

FizzyIce · 02/12/2019 17:00

No one mentioned tracksuits .. how snobby

ferrier · 02/12/2019 17:05

Not necessarily. Even a perfectly fitting bra doesn't feel like you're wearing nothing

I'm wearing one now. I can't feel it. The only way I can tell is if I take it off because then I feel uncomfortable.

AryaStarkWolf · 02/12/2019 17:10

@Nojustyou I feel a little bit sorry for all the joy you're missing out on :p

AllStarBySmashMouth · 02/12/2019 17:16

Pyjamas are life, OP.

U2HasTheEdge · 02/12/2019 17:24

I love my Pjs. It's the first thing I do when I get home. I will often put them on even if I am going back out again in a couple of hours time.

I might wear clothes on Xmas day for a while, but after dinner I will no doubt change into my pyjamas. My family won't mind.

I don't sleep in them; I sleep naked.

MargotB7 · 02/12/2019 17:24

My OH looks quite handsome in his loungwear.

SlightlyStaleCocoPops · 02/12/2019 17:26

I don't understand people that sit around the house fully dressed. I'm waiting for the train home and and soon as I get in you better believe pyjamas are going on 🤷‍♀️

PhoneLock · 02/12/2019 17:27

So does mine. Bless his heart!

I hate wearing pyjamas day or night and dressing gowns are horrible as well.
I love my slippers though they are wonderful.

The one thing that really winds me up about my adult DD is her wearing nightwear all the time. Especially at the dinner table.

SimonJT · 02/12/2019 17:34

I don’t think I have owned pjs since the age of about 12. I have to wear a suit to work, so rather than pjs when I get home I put on a t-shirt and some sweat shorts.

PanicAndRun · 02/12/2019 17:41

For me it's taking the bra off regardless of what I put on after. I only own a pair or two of pyjamas, and I don't sleep in them anyways. But I have "house" clothes and while they are comfortable,do are most of my street clothes. It's the bra that makes the difference. Weekends and holidays(especially in winter) are the best, I don't wear one for days.

oohnicevase · 02/12/2019 17:53

I wear lounge wear at home as soon as I get in I change , it means my nice clothes last longer as I wash them less and my joggers etc wash and tumble much easier and quicker . I only wear pjs at night . My lounge wear can be worn outside which especially in the winter under a coat is handy .

Bluntness100 · 02/12/2019 20:10

Rather odd you can’t comprehend people are actually allowed to find bras uncomfortable

What a strange thing to say. People can wear as many wrong sized bras as they wish, there is no bra police. There is no "allow"

The fact remains if your bra is uncomfortable you're wearing rhe wrong size. That's a personal choice.

Saying why it's uncomfortable is not remotely the same as saying you need permission.

Same as your knickers, if they are digging in and making you uncomfortable they are the wrong size.

so true

JolieOBrien · 02/12/2019 20:19

@MargotB7

Nice.. PJs

bluebeck · 02/12/2019 20:25

I am 32GG and I cannot bloody wait to get my bra off and my PJs on when I get home.

All my friends are the same.

I have to wear professional clothes for work, and anyway, what's the point of changing into comfy clothes and then changing again into PJs? I don't get it??? I am usually in bed within 3 hours of getting home from work.

Asthenia · 02/12/2019 20:39

I don’t get the pyjama thing either. Or dressing gowns! Looking at people all bundled up in a dressing gown makes me feel all hot and like I can’t breathe (weird I know). Round the house I wear old leggings and big socks and a sweatshirt/t-shirt. Cosy and comfy but not pyjamas (which I firmly believe are for bed time only!)

Shinyletsbebadguys · 02/12/2019 20:58

It depends on what we are doing whether we will change but generally not. Dp will sit in his shirt and trousers from a suit and I will in work clothes. We often work from home in the evenings and I have noticed once we are finished we will get comfortable but like taking his tie off or I will maybe have a bath and change into pyjamas.

Sunday is often stay in pyjamas but that's usually as I'm cleaning and I don't want to dirty clothes ...the pyjamas then go straight in the wash.

I can't seem to think straight in pyjamas to be honest. ...I don't feel right if that makes sense.

Saying that I wouldn't ever think twicentre about others who get straight into their pyjamas. ..if it makes them happy crack on.

Going out in your pyjamas is another issue. ...I do not understand that even a little ...it would feel incredibly alien and frankly it takes 3 seconds to change.
