To not understand some mnetters obsession with wearing pyjamas

Sure, it's nice on a dark winter's evening to relax in pj's in front of the telly. But I see threads on here where posters can't wait to get in the door after work to put them on, or don't want visitors on Christmas day because they can't stay in their pyjamas etc etc.
What's the big deal about wearing pyjamas? Yes they're comfy but it's not like most modern clothes are tortuous to wear.

I don't get it either but I tend to wear jersey dresses and leggings or thick tights which are cosy anyway

herecomesthebacon · 02/12/2019 15:05

Why is everyone wearing uncomfortable clothes in the first place?! I wouldn't wear clothes which are uncomfortable, maybe that's why I don't get the pyjamas and loungewear thing?

Everything that isn't pyjamas or loungewear is relatively uncomfortable to me.

Shoes = uncomfortable
Trainers = comfortable
Socks/slippers = ultimate comfort

Bras = uncomfortable
Unwired bras = slightly more comfortable
No bra = ultimate comfort

Trousers = uncomfortable
Jeans = slightly less uncomfortable
Jammy bottoms/trackies = ultimate comfort

And so on. Dresses are fairly comfy but I find tights hugely uncomfortable so not really any good in winter.

And yes, I do wear a correctly fitting bra and no, I am not overweight.

ForalltheSaints · 02/12/2019 15:07

If you are finding trousers or jeans uncomfortable, are you in denial about the clothing size you really are?

WorryBadger · 02/12/2019 15:08

I hardly dare take my bra off at all, let alone whipping it off with gleeful abandon. If you're going to unleash these 2-pint pudding bowls of wayward blancmange, you have to do it carefully and with planning.

YOU MUST BE FAT Grin

PJ's are just more comfortable than jeans, jeans aren't uncomfortable, PJ's are just more comfortable

Nope, I'm 5ft3, 8st7 and a comfy size 10, thanks very much.

MrsFoxPlus4Again · 02/12/2019 15:13

I’m always in my pjs or lounge wear indoors.

Bluntness100 · 02/12/2019 15:16

Not necessarily. Even a perfectly fitting bra doesn't feel like you're wearing nothing

Not far off it though, you can't feel it. So yes, if your under wear is uncomfortable you're wearing rhe wrong size.

viccat · 02/12/2019 15:20

You should ask my DM, she's obsessed with changing outfits throughout the day... Get dressed and walk the dog in dog walking outfit, come home and get dressed in daytime clothing, go to the supermarket, come home and change into leggings and long tunic for home, prepare for another dog walk and change into dog walking outfit again... Grin

When I worked outside the home I used to change out of my skirt if I was wearing one, mainly because it got really creased and covered in cat hair from sitting on the sofa in the evenings. Now I work from home and just wear comfortable clothes all the time (obsessed with Lucy & Yak dungarees at the moment) and have no need to change into anything else.

Rather odd you can’t comprehend people are actually allowed to find bras uncomfortable.

kateandme · 02/12/2019 15:25

i think its the process and the thinking.your winding down.switching off.like an animal coming in from the hunt and hunkering down haha.
your just letting go of the day
and for some people they just like it.
the obsession i find more confusing is these kinds of posts that dont understand how someone could posssibly like something you dont!
people like pjs get the f over it.

AryaStarkWolf · 02/12/2019 15:26

Taking your bra off is similar to taking your hair down if it's been tied up all day, it's not really uncomfortable all day but it feels great when you take it down all the same

Arrowfanatic · 02/12/2019 15:26

I've been known to spend a day off in PJs but as a general rule no i dont dive straight into them.

My older sister does but shes a very big girl, with very big, not so firm boobs and she wears vest tops. Lets just say that the tesco delivery man gets an eye full every week. She knows this happens, finds it funny. My husband and i nipped in to see her after work once with our kids and she lazed across her sofa and her boob fell out. Dh didnt know where to look, i told her and she goes "oh I'm sure MrArrow is enjoying the view".

Wear PJs if you must, but at least make sure they cover you at times you are not alone and have deliveries or guests.

kateandme · 02/12/2019 15:27

plus those loungewear sets that are around now are just so goood.i defy anyone not to put them on and not feel better.

AryaStarkWolf · 02/12/2019 15:27

@kateandme Well said!

LightsInOtherPeoplesHouses · 02/12/2019 15:36

I wear PJs round the house because of children and pets. I don't want my nice clothes covered in paint/slime/playdoh/fur or get snags and holes from cats claws.

Doesn't matter if my PJs get stained/holes though.

herecomesthebacon · 02/12/2019 15:57

I just find it so bizarre that people have the headspace to get wound up about this. Why does it bother you what other people wear?

I think that high waisted jeans and high heels are hideous instruments of torture and I would never wear either myself, but that doesn't mean I don't know why anyone else would want to wear them.

Nojustyou · 02/12/2019 15:57

I don't want my nice clothes covered in paint/slime/playdoh/fur or get snags and holes from cats claws.

see, that i honestly can't understand at all. I buy clothes from everywhere, including Primark where they cost even less than my pjs from something like Next (hardly designer in the first place).

I personally find it very uncomfortable NOT to wear a bra during the day - and I don't even have massive boobs - and I feel more comfy in clothes than in pjs for daytime. I don't understand people who need to take their jeans off the minute they walk through the door, because jeans are ones of the things I change into when I come from work.

On another note, I would find it a bit meh if DH who spends the day wearing smart and good looking clothes felt the need to slob in joggers the minute he walks home. Thankfully, he hates them even more than I do Grin but the idea of DH making more effort for everybody else but his family sounds weird.

StarlingsInSummer · 02/12/2019 16:04

I don’t often wear actual pjs but I do wear yoga pants and casual tops if I’m not going out. When I do wear pj bottoms, they aren’t what I sleep in as I sleep in a slip or naked. They’re just comfortable casual clothes, that I put on clean after I’ve showered in the morning.

AryaStarkWolf · 02/12/2019 16:04

It sounds weird that your Dh would feel like he could relax more at home? It's just clothes, when you say "family" are you including your kids in that "weirdness" comment, why would your kids care if he wore jeans or a track suit pants?

JolieOBrien · 02/12/2019 16:10

I don't wear pyjamas because I find them too hot but because I am visiting my daughter this Christmas I have got myself some Christmas ones which I will donate to charity afterwards. The thought of wearing a onesie feels me with horror because I think they look like giant baby grows.

JolieOBrien · 02/12/2019 16:11

fills me

Beswitched · 02/12/2019 16:11

I don't see anyone getting 'wound up'. Are we only allowed to start threads about things that are driving us around the bend? I must have missed that memo.

OP posts:
Celebelly · 02/12/2019 16:17

I'd want my partner to be comfy at home, not wearing something to 'make an effort'. It's his home! The one place where you can dress how you like and be comfortable Confused All you Team PJ/loungewear people can be my pals Grin

Celebelly · 02/12/2019 16:20

Jeans aren't necessarily uncomfy but they are not as comfy as soft cotton bottoms for sure. I wouldn't ever wear jeans for just dossing about the house if I wasn't going out. Loungewear all the way! Soft, loose, fleecey (if required). And then into a fresh pair of PJs at bedtime, preferable after a nice bath. Lovely.
