To not understand some mnetters obsession with wearing pyjamas

Sure, it's nice on a dark winter's evening to relax in pj's in front of the telly. But I see threads on here where posters can't wait to get in the door after work to put them on, or don't want visitors on Christmas day because they can't stay in their pyjamas etc etc.
What's the big deal about wearing pyjamas? Yes they're comfy but it's not like most modern clothes are tortuous to wear.

I switch into fluffy PJs in the winter evenings because they're warmer and more comfortable than jeans. I don't change into stuff in the summer as summer clothes are more comfortable anyway.

PBo83 · 02/12/2019 12:00

I don't have pyjamas but do have a tracksuit (and I'd never wear a tracksuit outside of the house).

I don't even 'dress up' for work (I work in tech so it's all hoodies and trainers) but I think it's something to do with 'switching off' and changing clothes is part of this even if they aren't THAT dissimilar to your daytime clothes.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 02/12/2019 12:11

I have to wear a uniform for work so change the minute I get in. So its usually into pjs as they are comfy unless I am going out or expecting visitors. Anyone comfortable enough to just drop by is invariably either someone I am comfortable enough with to see me in my pjs or one of the kids mates who think its quite amusing to see me in a onsie/pjs and assure me their mums are exactly the same.

BlackCatSleeping · 02/12/2019 12:13

My body changes shape, so in the morning everything fits perfectly, but by the end of the day, I’m a bit swollen. I think it’s common, especially when I am premenstrual.

CatteStreet · 02/12/2019 12:13

'Do the braless people all have small breasts which don't need support?'

I rarely wear a bra and this is true of me. I'm quite unusually flat-chested (wish the same could be said of my stomach).

I don't have strong views either way on pyjamas in the house (though i wear mine at night only or slobbing around for a while on weekend mornings*), but am I alone in being unable to stand the expression 'PJs'?

(*I tell a lie. I am actually wearing a pair of pyjama bottoms now, as I won't have to leave the house for the rest of the day and got very cold outside earlier in leggings. But regular clothes on the top).

G5000 · 02/12/2019 12:14

YANBU. PJs are for sleeping. My neighbours do that 'swap to nightwear immediately'. If I have any of their deliveries or anything to drop off, it makes me uncomfortable if they answer the door in their PJs - like I disturbed them when they are already in bed, or too ill to get dressed - even if it's just 5.30.
What's wrong with leggings/joggers and a top/hoodie for example? Same comfort, but they're clothes, not nightwear.
It's like bikini and underwear - essentially the same item of clothing, but one is meant for wearing on the beach or pool, the other is not.

Zaphodsotherhead · 02/12/2019 12:14

I think everyone who sits around the house in PJs all day must have their heating turned up too high!

I can only wear even fluffy PJs in bed under two duvets. Around the house it's jogging bottoms, three fleeces and two pairs of socks.

(Yorkshire, no central heating).

YetAnotherSpartacus · 02/12/2019 12:17

Don’t wear a bra. Love my PJs.

CoolCarrie · 02/12/2019 12:17

I love my pjs and slippers. Bra off, contact lens out, glasses on, kettle on , music on and clean pjs on!

PrtScn · 02/12/2019 12:22

I don’t put my pyjamas straight on when I get in, but I do have jogging bottoms and baggy tops I wear in the house. More comfortable and it doesn’t matter if you accidentally ruin them when you spill food and drink down them or if the toddler snots on your leg.

CatInTheDaytime · 02/12/2019 12:23

I love the loungewear/pjs at home thing. I probably wouldn't wear them all day but I get changed in the evening, usually before tea. My clothes aren't uncomfortable, but I like feeling really cosy with big socks, pj leggings and soft cuddly hoodie. It's about knowing I'm in for the rest of the day, and I can hunker down at home, especially in winter.

Christmas day in PJs is the best kind of Christmas day for me. As a child, we would have to be all smart, have the neighbours round for drinks, then be forced to go for a jolly walk, which would be nice if it was snowy but of course it was generally just grey and soggy. Then have a formal sit-down dinner. Now I can do it my way and just relax indoors and be cosy - so nice!

MargotB7 · 02/12/2019 12:25

I love Pj's. I'm feeling a bit rubbish today and all I want to do is go home put them on and watch a movie.

WorryBadger · 02/12/2019 12:25

For me it's pyjamas = not planning on doing ANYthing. I come home from work, put the jim jams on and it's like a signal to myself that nothing more will be demanded of me, and I have only to think about putting DD to bed, making my tea, and settling down to watch something nice about a mass murderer or something.

MyCatHatesEverybody · 02/12/2019 12:26

Do people do the cooking etc whilst wearing their pyjamas?

DioneTheDiabolist · 02/12/2019 12:26

I have average size breasts. They need support when I'm active, but if I'm relaxing in the house it is more comfortable for me not to wear one.

79andnotout · 02/12/2019 12:26

I change into some looser clothes when I get home - paint splattered tracky bottoms usually - but I'm another one who can't not wear a bra. I even wear one in bed (with no underwiring). I'm not massive at a 32D but since my mid thirties my boobs have been agonising for most of every month. I think it's karma for never really having period pain. Being a woman sucks sometimes.

Celebelly · 02/12/2019 12:27

Yes, my PJs aren't made out of shellsuit material so it's perfectly safe!

caperplips · 02/12/2019 12:28

I get changed out of my office clothes as soon as I get home as I ma about to start cooking / cleaning / and eventually relaxing. I tend to wear sports legging or yoga pants with a t-shirt and hoodie but sometimes wear pj bottoms and hoodie. Depends what's clean and handy. We all get changed when we're home for the evening. Dd takes off her uniform and dh takes off his work clothes and changes into 'lounge pants' from GAP. Sort of like pj bottoms but with pockets in them. He has 4 pairs. They are sold separately without matching tops.

I like to be comfortable when I'm at home.

We do get dressed on Christmas Day though...casual stuff during the day when cooking etc and then change into something a bit nicer in the evening when we eat dinner. It would not feel right to spend that day in pj's

Celebelly · 02/12/2019 12:28

But my daytime PJs won't be worn overnight. I change into fresh ones before bed. I have a lot of PJs Grin

And @WorryBadger your life is basically mine

Thestrangestthing · 02/12/2019 12:28

Even if I have a day where I wear sports clothes all day, I still want to get changed into my house clothes (joggers and hoodie) I don't wear them in bed though, so they're not my pajamas that's really short shorts and a vest top because I can't stand being over dressed in bed.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 02/12/2019 12:28

I'm a B cup and pretty much never wear a bra except when running. A lycra mix vest is fine the rest of the time for me.

PhoneLock · 02/12/2019 12:29

I don't own any pyjamas, but if I did I would only wear them for bed. I'm quite happy to lounge around the house in a tee shirt and jogging bottom (braless or sometimes in a sports bra, for those that are interested)

I don't get the bra removal thing, either. If wearing a bra is less comfortable than going without, then that means it's time to get a new bra because the old ones no longer fit. Do the braless people all have small breasts which don't need support?

I can't for everybody but mine aren't huge and they seem to cope perfectly well on their own. I've just been fitted for four new bras at Bravissimo and they are very comfortable, but not as comfortable as not wearing them at all.

I generally only wear a structured bra for work, and not always then. It depends what else I am wearing.

Celebelly · 02/12/2019 12:29

Oh and also, daytime PJs I wear pants with but not overnight ones. I have strict rules that govern my PJ-wearing.

Thestrangestthing · 02/12/2019 12:30

Do people do the cooking etc whilst wearing their pyjamas?

Why not?

Getitwright · 02/12/2019 12:30

Folks can do what they like in their own homes, but I hate to see PJs and slippers at school gates.
