Have you ever taken drugs?

Inspired by another, more serious thread. Am curious.. how many Mumsneters have, at some point in their lives taken anything stronger than smoking a bit of weed?

If codeine and one (unknowing) joint doesn't count, then no. I am really surprised that two thirds of respondents have. The joint I had a few drags of, I thought was a normal rollie. I was really sick afterwards. Never touched anything else.

I loved speed back in the day. It was the late 60's - just north of London. Would mind some speed right now in fact.

Taken loads during my teens and early twenties. I think if E was regulated and available instead of alcohol the streets would be safer at the weekends.

Had children hardly drink now.

I tried weed several times (not a fan just made me sleepy) and speed once (horrendous experience) and nothing since the latter. It's not for me. A few of my friends still do coke every now and then but I'm quite disapproving of it.

Weed, speed, coke, Es, mdma, acid. Coke is still very much a huge normalised thing in every kind of social circle I know of or am part of. From 17 year old college kids to late 50s grans, everyone round here basically takes it when drinking. It's actually more of a surprise when someone says they don't take it

No, I drink far too much so probably a bit of a hypocrite really. I was at school when Leah Betts died and the example was all over schools and it scared me off. I used to go to a rock club all nighter and power through on however much I could drink before 2am so yeah hypocrite.

Yes, practically everything apart from heroin in my teens and twenties. Had a great time tbh! Some of the best nights of my life on MDMA...... haven’t taken it since i was 25 though, and can’t see myself taking it again.

I’m in my mid 50s and smoke hash regularly.
Involved in the music business and related stuff, so a line of coke is offered and taken every now and again.

Teens and twenties, weed, speed and acid.

Hate Es, they make me puke.

Never touched heroin or k

Drink regularly.

Generally have a good time.

No. Luckily I have never felt the need to when clubbing etc but I don't know anyone who (openly) takes drugs but I think I am in a minority reading through the thread.

Yes, a lot of them. Mostly between 1990 and 1999 but very occasionally up until about 8 years ago. No longer holds any appeal though.

From about 16..weed, speed, acid, more Es than I could count and then excessive amounts of cocaine for good few years.

I worked, had a good job but most of it went on drink and drugs.

I dont regret it at all and had some amazing nights!

No, as I have dealt with psychiatric conditions since my teens, I always knew my mental health was too important.

I’m in my 30s and regularly used drugs recreationally in my late teens and early 20s. Mostly mdma/ ecstasy, speed and ketamine but sometimes coke or LSD. Also lots of magic mushrooms when in season or if someone brought them back from places like Camden/ Brighton where they legally sold them fresh m in Head shops. Think fresh shrooms were only classified as an illegal Class A drug in about 2005.

I had a lot of fun taking drugs and only really stopped because of the kids. If I had a good babysitter, they were legal and a 100% guarantee the drugs were safe and reputable I’d probably still enjoy them now, but as it stands I’m too worried about the repercussions of taking something dodgy or being caught now I have kids it could impact.
