Have you ever taken drugs?

Inspired by another, more serious thread. Am curious.. how many Mumsneters have, at some point in their lives taken anything stronger than smoking a bit of weed?

Never taken anything illegal including weed, though as a teenager was in such a smoke filled room I was stoned off the air. I'm too anxious/paranoid to trust myself on any illicit substance, I dont even like people knowing if I'm beyond a bit tipsy.

I did love me some pethadine in labour though Grin

I've seen some terrible outcomes so i know how bad it can be. I've been to too many funerals for someone my age, but it'd be disingenuous to suggest that's how it ends up for the majority of people

Education instead of scare tactics will help keep people safer.

Whatever you want to call drug education trying to scare people off drugs is very ineffective and imo does alot of damage

It needs to be done sensibly for sure and we know “just say no” doesn’t work but people also need to know there are risks from buying any old shit off some dealer. It’s not like there’s any sort of quality control. How many people who’ve taken drugs have known exactly what they were taking at the point of consumption? They don’t.

Maybe one way of dealing with it is to legalise the whole lot. I reckon that would solve a lot of problems. Maybe for a different thread though!

Yeah. When I was younger I used to take Cocaine far to often. At least twice weekly I would buy a gram. Never tried anything else though. I was never addicted to it, I did it more because of circumstance and who I was friends with at the time. Anyway, I got pregnant and that was it. Haven’t done it or thought of doing it since.

Yes - recreationally in the 90' and 00's.
However never impacted on work etc
Those that were weed smokers have never given up and it has seriously impacted on there lives

drug taking is of course a good route to a Darwin award. Not very funny for the family when it is their kid that loses the lottery and takes the wrong pill at a festival.

and whatever happened in the good old days, if you smoke, sniff or inject you support county lines, gang violence and cuckooing of the vulnerable. It is not a victimless crime.

YABU. Just not something done in my social & work circle. Mind I think a lot of that is because my spare time is spent at home or on the allotment. DH and I arent party people, the only way we would be able to access recreational drugs is if the cat took up dealing (wouldnt put it past him!).

One of the things which put me off when I was a student was the worry of having a bad experience which I would have to sit out until it wore off.

It has also never been easier to buy ethical weed as it is right now. With a bit of leg work you can buy direct from hobby growers and it will be better quality than industrially produced shite you can buy on the street

Loads of weed as a student, salvia quite a few times until I had a bad trip that scared the shit out of me. Mushrooms once or twice.

I had a weird rule about if was a plant and still looked quite obviously plant like it was fine. So no pills powders or anything injectable but anything else was fair game.

Was very tempted by lsd.

I'm boring as fuck now though. I don't smoke, drink very occasionally and never to excess and haven't had so much as a toke of a spliff since I found out I was pregnant with ds who is now 6.

I'm also considerably happier.

I have taken most drugs. I have never tried heroin or the newer legal highs. The only drug I have ever been addicted to is tobacco, but I managed to stop smoking completely 15 years ago. I haven't taken any drugs for this long too.

My favourite drugs were MDMA and LSD which I took a few times. I had a few religious experiences on magic mushrooms and LSD which made me believe in God for a while, but now I'm an atheist.

I'm actually shocked at the numbers who have tried something harder than weed! Literally nobody in my school or university friendship groups did drugs (as far as I know, but if they did it was something they hid). I know a few people who have been heavy drug users, and I had colleagues in the past that took drugs, but I've never ever wanted to do it myself. Even the smell of weed makes me feel sick. I'm late 30s, so an old millennial.

Never took any avoided the morons and idiots involved. Idiot young brother heavily involved from 15 spend years dossing paid for by smuggling small amount of cannabis. Eventually caught with a massive amount, ended up in a feign prison and died.

Extremely nasty and quite frankly evil trade makes some people very rich and treats loads of people like shit.

No one should do any illegal drugs

I also hate the smell of weed and never enjoyed it the few times I tried, it just made me feel sick, tired and paranoid. Other drugs are much, much better.

@Merename It was an amazing drug at first. The best, longest lasting high and it was the first ever drug I tried. Absolutely destroyed my life. Was trapped in an abusive relationship as he was also the one getting it and taking it with me. He tried to kill me by with holding or over dosing. The worst 2 years of my life. But I’m 4 years sober now and I’m so lucky that I didn’t lose my lovely family. I’ve got my kids back and am happily married now. Meth stated out a lot of fun but very quickly tore my life apart.

Friend and I went hitchhiking in Europe, when we reached Amsterdam it was pretty much impossible NOT to smoke weed. It was fun for the three weeks we were there but not had any since.

Now in my 70s with bad arthritis would like to try it again but no idea how to buy it. Can't see me approaching a dodgy looking bloke because he might be a drug dealer, knowing my luck it will be an off duty policeman lol.

Went through a phase of smoking cannabis when I was in 6th form, a few nights out involved speed and in more recent years I stupidly went through a coke phase due to a new set of friends but quickly knocked it in the head. I’ve seen the devastation it causes and am glad it was only a few months for me. I will never touch drugs again.
