Thought it might be fun, posting here for traffic.
What do you get for free or at a very small cost that others pay for?
This is supposed to be fun by the way...
For example
I never pay for yoga classes (family member is the teacher)
I never pay for stationary or printing (get them from work)
I never pay full price for Fatface or Debenhams purchases as I have good friends working there.

What are your freebies?

DH works in produce. But not directly - he’s in the main office. So sometimes I get free veggies - if the farmers have sent in a sample box.

I work for a train company so can travel for free between Inverness/Aberdeen/Edinburgh to London KGX. I also get 75% off tickets on other trains, although there are a couple I can travel on for free such as East Midlands. I get cheap Eurostar rates, and can get a certain number of European train journeys free a year. I can take the ferry to Ireland/Europe for free - only have to pay Port taxes. I can also randomly, use Lake Windermere Boats/Ferrys for free.

My SO is a NHS Physio and also a self employed yoga teacher and massage therapist. Which is good ...however I've refused to let him physio me so far, however my backs got so bad he's told me I'm being an idiot saying no (and he is right).

My mum works for ASDA so gets DS school uniforms for me on the 20% off weekends (in advance of the next school year)

I have a Booker card from my old work.

I have an iPhone through work, one of the latest models that I can use for personal use as well as work so I don't pay for a contract which is helpful.

TwattingDog · 29/11/2019 14:11

@Bickles ooh, it's that what it is in OralB? I did wonder, as I can't use it - the entire inside of my mouth sloughs off!

GnomeDePlume · 29/11/2019 14:14

Horse manure - £10 for a large trailer load delivered straight to the allotment plot.

DH was a Part P electrician and still a 'competent person' on local authority list so all electrical work is done by him.

Namechange8471 · 29/11/2019 14:17

Free train travel as dp is a train driver

Cherrysoup · 29/11/2019 14:18

I haven't bought cling film in years - DH delights in pilfering catering sized rolls from work.

But that’s theft. 👎 I’d be really unhappy with that and my dh wouldn’t do that anyway.

We get blue light discount and my dh is very good at finding cash back buys. He gets free TFL travel through work. My work supplies free coffee/tea/biscuits, that’s it. I’m forever buying my own supplies to use.

Dinosauratemydaffodils · 29/11/2019 14:19

Honey - FiL keeps bees
Vegetables - MiL grows a lot.
Apples and plums - see above
Hair cuts - I have very long curly hair, dh cuts it because I can't stand strangers touching it.
Eggs - from a school friend of dh's who he helps with computer related advice when needed
Vegetable stock/chinese cooking for the freezer - from my ad hoc childminder. I give her honey/vegetables in return.

Dh gets free tea, coffee and access to a giant bowl of fruit plus chocolates at work.

My rain coat came free from the Oil Company that my df worked for.

WhoCaresWins01 · 29/11/2019 14:21

Haircuts!!!

My mum cuts and colours my hair for free.

IT support - DH sorts out all of our computer issues and also provides help to family.

foxychox · 29/11/2019 14:23

I used to get cartons of Ribena very cheaply as I worked for the company that made them - not great in itself but swapped them for beer from my brewer BIL. Also - my DH worked for a large outdoor fitness company and I get free membership of that, it will expire at the end of this year though Sad

vivacian · 29/11/2019 14:24

I think that the OP has been very lucky not to have her thread derailed by the admission to pilfering stationery from her "stationary" employers.

I can't think of any freebies, apart from work pay for travel and expenses, so I guess I get nice meals out at restaurants for free.

Hotseat · 29/11/2019 14:24

Copies amounts of dirty laundry, dishes, odd bloody socks. Occasional thanks, hugs and kisses.

Hotseat · 29/11/2019 14:25

Copious not copies.

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 29/11/2019 14:25

Alcohol.
Eggs.
Tickets to the RSC.
Honey.
Work on the car (not inc MOTs).
Game.

thiscouldbethehill · 29/11/2019 14:26

Veterinary care - DH is a vet
Firewood, pheasants, fish, lamb, tons of seasonal veg and all sorts of other things from grateful clients who love my DH. My personal favourite are the lobsters and crevettes one client always brings us for Christmas.

doadeer · 29/11/2019 14:27

Yoga - my mum runs a studio. I get lots of free snacks and food from DH work (big tech firm) he gets me an iced coffee for breakfast everyday and leaves in the fridge 👍

darkriver19886 · 29/11/2019 14:27

Sometimes get free sweets for helping out at the local sweet shop :)

tinysnickersaremyfavourite · 29/11/2019 14:28

Aesthetic treatments - I know someone who trains people to do them and needs practice models. Have had all kinds of things that I'd never have been able to justify or afford otherwise!

PooWillyBumBum · 29/11/2019 14:29

DH flies for work so we have 6 figures of airmiles but we feel so guilty about the carbon footprint we don’t use them. Might try and use them for hotels or something at some point.

Coffee at work and the occasional lunch

DH gets evening meals for free through expenses and brings me doggy bags

Massages from my neighbour/friend who is a trained masseuse but mainly works as a teacher and won’t take my money

Veggies from in laws garden

Apart from that not much. We work for a bank and a management consultancy so not super exciting
perks!

charm8ed · 29/11/2019 14:32

PooWillyBumBum We used our air miles on cases of wine. Often you can redeem them against stuff other than flights. We’ve also booked uk breaks with them and excursions when in holidays.

thecalmorchid · 29/11/2019 14:36

Logs for wood burner as my parents own a small wood.

Latest gadgets to try out as close friend owns a media company.

Perks with putting major company purchases on a credit card and getting the rewards in points or air miles.

Husband owns the company before I get told it's not allowed.

I get a carers card to get into most things free, but I wouldn't class this as a perk, it's a necessity.

MotherofOne · 29/11/2019 14:36

A degree!

I signed up for one via distance learning (in English) from a Swedish university and since the UK is (still, thankfully) part of the EU I pay no fees.
So that's £27,750 saved in fees...

Of course if we Brexit that will go Angry for future generations.

lotusbell · 29/11/2019 14:36

Free bus travel for me and my son as OH is a bus driver.
I am not musical but work with music so get to toot on whatever instrument I fancy at work, whenever I want, which I think is ace Smile

JellyfishAndShells · 29/11/2019 14:38

D travels hugely with work - less now, but he still has so many airline and hotel loyalty points accumulated that we have effectively free long haul holidays travelling up the front of the plane , plus the level status that gets us in Fast track lanes and in the higher level airport lounges with food and drink for free.

Yabadee · 29/11/2019 14:39

airplane food - air France and klm mostly so it’s actually quite nice!
Duty free at the airport as I have an access all areas security ID
Can use employee entrances at airports when going on holiday myself ie no big check in or security queues
DD gets free haircuts as the hairdresser is an old friend of DPs and has a daughter a year younger than ours who gets all her designer hand me downs.

Getitwright · 29/11/2019 14:44

Twenty seven years worth of free access to eleven swimming pools, four sports centres, three gym’s and two water sports centres! In fact, I also got paid a very nice salary for going there!Grin
