What do you get for free or at a very small cost?

Thought it might be fun, posting here for traffic.
What do you get for free or at a very small cost that others pay for?
This is supposed to be fun by the way...
For example
I never pay for yoga classes (family member is the teacher)
I never pay for stationary or printing (get them from work)
I never pay full price for Fatface or Debenhams purchases as I have good friends working there.

What are your freebies?

Nothing really.

But through an unpaid role I have had all expenses paid trips to Australia, Singapore, Finland, the Netherlands and Kenya. They involved me doing some work/conferences but then I'd add on some days of holiday. Loved it.

Accounts - I'm self-employed and DH used to be a tax officer so he does all my tax returns etc. for me.
Haircuts - I only ever have a straight trim and DH does a perfectly good job of it so I've not been to the hairdresser in decades.
Home entertainment - we have a cocker spaniel!

emsiewill · 29/11/2019 13:46

Cinema tickets as dh is a cinema manager. He also gets 40% discount on food & drink in there so it makes them a "normal" price Smile.

Tickets to see our local rugby team, as they are partnered with the cinema.

Over the (27) years I've been with him we've had some pretty good perks - attended the Welsh BAFTAs one year for example.

Twattingdog|) I did not ever think I would use the first part of your user name: What is a "dreckly"??

icemelting · 29/11/2019 13:50

Eggs from chickens and ducks
@percheron67
Dreckly means at some point (but not any time soon)

Rosepetals30 · 29/11/2019 13:50

Gym membership for under £5 per month

poorstudent1010 · 29/11/2019 13:52

Funnily enough my current job (finance) doesn’t have many corporate perks but I had loads when I worked in bloody retail eg corporate discount with Apple.

I used to work in retail at Westfield London, there’s a staff VIP card that gives Westfield staff discounts at most stores in either Westfield. As Westfield has a large range of stores, I could use this on stores that didn’t even offer student discount. It also included cafes/restaurants: from Starbucks to Cafe Concerto to Wagamama and Bills. I’m sure Burger King was included too. Godsend.

Some of the staff recognise me and still give the discount to me to this day, even though my card has expired!

Vodafone have VeryMe which day often gives free costa and other food bits. They gave me a massive discount on my iPhone XS tariff when it was first released, with 100GB data and Spotify premium included. As I have also had lots of account credit too, I am paying well under retail value for my phone.

I got all my bathroom tiles for the wall and the floor for just £24, a free shower and discount bathroom suite (brother manages a B&Q)

charm8ed · 29/11/2019 13:55

Not really free but we get airport lounge passes with our bank account, we travel a lot so use them frequently during the year. The bank account also comes with mobile phone insurance, travel insurance, 25% off theatre tickets and 10% off holidays.

Fr0g · 29/11/2019 13:57

Free alpaca poo
Opportunity to go to a lecture on mange and scabies in the middleages (not taken up)
Eggs (in return for volunteering with chickens)
Community fridge which I use occasionally if I'm not working.
@Freebiefriday stationary means not moving - Stationery is envelopes, notepads, etc.
Wierd not to know that if it's a company that sells stationery.

FrederickSinclair · 29/11/2019 13:57

I think i need new friends. The only thing I get for free is any electrical work doing (DH is electrician!)

Butchyrestingface · 29/11/2019 13:58

Travel costs to and from work. These are always reimbursed. Smile

FrederickSinclair · 29/11/2019 13:59

egontoste · 29/11/2019 14:00

Free trees (belong to a society that grows them).

Free guitar lessons (family member is a teacher).

Cheap printer cartridges via work.

A Booker card via family member's work.

Unlimited cardboard boxes, bubble wrap and pallets (via friendly stores dept at work).

Beautiful3 · 29/11/2019 14:02

Absolutely nothing! Now I'm sad!

holly40 · 29/11/2019 14:02

Jack shit.

poorstudent1010 · 29/11/2019 14:06

I definitely recommend downloading some apps for free food. Eg costa, subway, Greggs give you a sign up bonus and free stuff along the year. Burger King has app exclusive vouchers for cheaper food.

Download the app of your local shopping centre as they may have free stuff on offer too

TwattingDog · 29/11/2019 14:06

@percheron67 It's Cornish for "directly". I say it's like "mañana". Sometime....ish.

The dog had just been called that when I name changed last! 😂

edgen2019 · 29/11/2019 14:09

Free bus pass but I had to reach a certain age to possess one!

AlwaysaLittleBitTired · 29/11/2019 14:09

Ooh, interesting thread.

Childcare twice a week, and extra babysitting when required - DM and DF are amazing.

Tea, coffee, and fruit at work.

Legal advice and conveyancing - perk of our jobs.

City centre car park season ticket - part of my work deal. Amazing.

percheron67 · 29/11/2019 14:09

TwattingDog. Thank you for the reply. I completely understand!

thatguiltyfeeling · 29/11/2019 14:11

Free or cheap hairdressing depending on what I want done
Free fancy dress costumes as long as they're not likely to be hired out by paying customers (can't hire beetle juice at Halloween for example)
Free childcare from MIL twice a week and if I asked my colleagues they'd all be willing to give me free childcare in the evening too
Used to get free household items like saucepans and laundry detergent as well as food but DP left that job ☹️
Free professional gardening
MIL takes all towels and bedding as she has a tumble dryer
I also haven't paid for any of the decorations in my flat, nor my tv, dining table, chair, fridge, washing machine, any of my three Christmas trees, a lot of my kitchen utensils and tbh a lot of my babies clothes and bouncy chair, cot, high chair, swing chair, stair gate, my bed and all four mattresses, and all of my curtains Blush
