What do you get for free or at a very small cost?

Thought it might be fun, posting here for traffic.
What do you get for free or at a very small cost that others pay for?
This is supposed to be fun by the way...
For example
I never pay for yoga classes (family member is the teacher)
I never pay for stationary or printing (get them from work)
I never pay full price for Fatface or Debenhams purchases as I have good friends working there.

What are your freebies?

I have a company lease car (I do around 30k work miles a year). I pay 2/7 of the lease price, £100 insurance excess and for personal fuel use, but other than that, all my motoring costs are covered.

I am a member of the Civil Service Social Club, £5/month, free entry to English Heritage places (amongst other things).

My hairdresser does DD’s fringe for free. I’ve had my hairdresser far longer than my daughter!

PixieDustt · 29/11/2019 13:23

@bickles yes they are.

I hate Oral B toothpaste. The stannous fluoride makes my mucosa peel off

Same, I hate it and always give the free tubes I get away.
I stock up when the Colgate team come in though Grin

ploughingthrough · 29/11/2019 13:24

School fees for my kids. Free as I work there.
Paper - always have from work

NoIDontWatchLoveIsland · 29/11/2019 13:25

Veg from BiLs allotment. Neighbours share loads of fruit in summer - cherries, pears, plums, even grapes!

Free holiday accommodation in France & spain (thank you DM/DF & PILs!)

Ive got an access to a property website that was free for a brief window years ago and has charged a hefty fee since - no one seems to ever tried to charge me or close my account.

TwattingDog · 29/11/2019 13:26

All car work by my BIL. Unless you need it ASAP as he works on 'dreckly'.

I pay my friend in Vanilla Coca Cola for minor handyman tasks like putting curtain rails up or small repairs. I pay him mates rates for big jobs.

I haven't bought cling film in years - DH delights in pilfering catering sized rolls from work. Same for batteries, waterproof tops, and combat boots. I repay the favour in waterproof trousers and hi vis tops.

I am a total bargain hunter, and rarely pay full price for things other than in supermarkets etc. I have a Defence Discount card, NUS card and use a cashback website (Quidco if anyone wants a referral! 😉). I'm also shameless about things like referrals to cashback websites, Bulb energy, beauty boxes etc and I do lots of trials for beauty products for either free stuff or money, online interviews for Amazon vouchers and save all my coins into a big pot for Xmas.

isseywith4vampirecats · 29/11/2019 13:27

hair cuts and highlights as my daughter is a hairdresser i usually bung her a tenner
free hot and soft drinks at work
50% discount on meals if i eat out in the restaurant i work at
work does recognitions and usually bonus that goes with this is shopping vouchers, currently have a £25 tescos voucher

HalyardHitch · 29/11/2019 13:28

Haircuts - my neighbour.
Paint - my husband

Spudlet · 29/11/2019 13:29

Firewood and kindling - DHs uncle is very into woodcarving and things and gives us his reject bits of wood and offcuts.

That’s about it 🤷‍♀️

CeeCeeEnnEss · 29/11/2019 13:30

Rail travel due to family member’s job.

That’s it!

PsychosonicCindy · 29/11/2019 13:33

Haircuts my brother & SIL are both hairdressers.
My cousin works at Disney in Florida so I could get in there free if only I could ever afford the airfare!

1forAll74 · 29/11/2019 13:33

Only a few logs ,that I kind of nick from outside my son's farmhouse when I go round there. I chuck a few in my car boot every now and then, I don't have the space to store a ton of logs at my place.

Nononononono33 · 29/11/2019 13:33

Dental care as my in laws insist on paying for it (family policy).

A Radley handbag worth £200 for free as my DH collected lots of (not sure which scheme) points through work and couldn’t find anything he wanted on the perks website, so he let me have a look...

AlunWynsKnee · 29/11/2019 13:34

I don't even get free coffee or tea at work :(

AcrossthePond55 · 29/11/2019 13:35

Not free, but a hefty discount on roofing due to a friend and another one on tree services if we pay the arborist in cash. The second one has ended up with us having enough firewood (for campfires) for about three years as we had to have quite a few trees on our property 'limbed up' or cut down due to them starting to impinge on our power lines.

My hairdresser hasn't raised her prices to me since forever so I expect I'm getting a bit of a discount there, too.

Wildthyme · 29/11/2019 13:35

All sorts because my eldest DD24 is an Insta influencer and gets loads of stuff for PR.

She started it years ago posting landscape photos and it's jumped from there. The beauty brands oddly send her the most stuff despite rarely doing a make up of the day.

MiddleClassProblem · 29/11/2019 13:37

Free sky

Freshprincess · 29/11/2019 13:37

Free tea and coffe at work - I didn't really think of this as a perk until I saw it advertised as such on an ad for a job. Also our boss usually brings loads of pastries and fruit in on Monday morning if he's done the shopping on Sunday.

My DCs are on staff contract with Tesco via someone exH knows. I completely forgot about it, until I went in to ask about an upgrade and see if I could lower the price.

Alloftheboys · 29/11/2019 13:37

OH works for a hotel chain so we get employee rates. Also gets some nights free per year.

nancy75 · 29/11/2019 13:38

Tennis club membership - haven't stepped on court once in 10 years!

Wauden · 29/11/2019 13:38

Bus pass with free travel after 9.00am. Pay some money upfront, but this does qualify as a perk as the small cost is recouped.
Still get a buzz every time because I used to pay shed loads for commuting to a big city.

fedupandlookingforchange · 29/11/2019 13:39

logs, kindling, labour on some car servicing, meat, childcare, often potatoes and carrots.
We would be very cold without the free logs, although they do have to be chopped up.

Ijustwanttoretire · 29/11/2019 13:41

free perk...it’s a stationary company

riiiggghhhtt, OP so you work for a stationEry company but you can't actually spell stationEry?? Hmm

amusedbush · 29/11/2019 13:42

My best friend is a very, very talented tattoo artist and she has done free/"mates rates" tattoos for me. I always make sure I book an unpopular time (Tuesday morning, for example, rather than a Saturday) so I'm not losing her even more money but her work is amazing and I'm very lucky.

Ponoka7 · 29/11/2019 13:44

Free removals, pickups, rubbish removals etc (via close family members van).
A few skilled jobs around the house via relatives.
My DD, who lives with me, is a Chef and does amazing deserts and cake decorations.
PT, weight lifting, sessions.

I repay by doing, childcare, shopping, parcel deliveries, bit of cleaning etc.

dalmatianmad · 29/11/2019 13:45

Was going to say nothing but DD works at a well known photo place and gets very good discount, she had just done be a canvas of the dogs for £5.20 instead of £52 Grin
