Are there a disproportionate amount of Scots on MN?

AIBU in thinking there is a disproportionately large amount of Scots on MN? Before I continue, there is absolutely nothing 'wrong' with this, just an observation.

I very often see on the "what are you doing today" threads posted on a Sunday that they are going to the supermarket at 9am... where England and Wales don't have extended Sunday trading hours. Or lots of "I'll be voting SNP at the general election".

Anyone else noticed this? I wonder what the percentage of active users are English, Welsh, Irish, Scottish, and others?

Shit, someone's stumbled over the Mumsnet McConspiracy.

Thestrangestthing · 27/11/2019 10:52

Should some of us leave to even it out?

FloraGreysteel · 27/11/2019 10:52

What would be the correct proportion? O.O

IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory · 27/11/2019 10:54

On englishnet? Hardly.

hadenough · 27/11/2019 10:55

This'll be another opportunity for the MN Scotland bashers to appear.

Redglitter · 27/11/2019 10:59

@NotTonightJosepheen. Youd love my work 'Did ye aye, aye did you' is one of our most commonly used phrases 🤭

Kaykay066 · 27/11/2019 11:00

There are a few of us 😊 I def don’t go to the supermarket at 9am on a Sunday though.

dementedpixie · 27/11/2019 11:02

The only thing with going to the shop at 9am is that you cant buy alcohol until 10am so you end up lingering near the drinks aisle looking a bit shady!

thedevilinablackdress · 27/11/2019 11:02

Probably not, but we certainly like to point it out when possible 😆 e.g. in the summer when other people are roasting away down South and we're getting excited about 17c

thaegumathteth · 27/11/2019 11:06

@dementedpixie yes I remember forgetting about this and trying to buy alcohol in home bargains (classy) at 930am. The cashier looked at me aghast 'it's too early for alcohol' as if I had been planning on just necking it there and thenZ

Mrsjayy · 27/11/2019 11:06

I don't really understand what you mean are you shocked that women have T'nternet out side the M25 or Scottish people can type English Grin

BlueBirdGreenFence · 27/11/2019 11:09

I've never really noticed a huge amount of Scottish but have often thought there's very little norn iron representation.

supercee · 27/11/2019 11:10

I was in London earlier this year and was elated (and surprised as I've been to London loads) that you can buy alcohol after 10pm in Tesco's!!! What rock have I been living under? Blush

supercee · 27/11/2019 11:10

And obviously not just Tesco's..!

Samcro · 27/11/2019 11:10

i have never noticed it. I envy them, they make lovely whisky

IWorkAtTheCheesecakeFactory · 27/11/2019 11:13

but have often thought there's very little norn iron representation.

That’s because NI doesn’t exist

See OP “threads posted on a Sunday that they are going to the supermarket at 9am... where England and Wales don't have extended Sunday trading hours”

unless theyre scuppering Brexit the little upstarts. Wink

selfhelpneeded · 27/11/2019 11:13

Hi from Scotland. There does seem to be lots of us. Either that or we're more vocal Grin

charliesp · 27/11/2019 11:13

I don't know how to make whisky.

OverUnderSidewaysDown · 27/11/2019 11:16

Population of Scotland is about 8% of the UK as a whole. So you’d expect about one in twelve of the UK posts to come from Scotland. Of course I know there are also posts from all over the world (waves to rest of world) so it would be less than one on twelve of posts overall.
Yes I agree it’s a secret MacMumsnet conspiracy! Hurray!

Marshmallow91 · 27/11/2019 11:19

McConspiricy Grin

SNP voting Scot here!
