To think that it's impossible to vote for Jeremy Corbyn after last night's interview?

To be upfront : I would never vote for Labour or Corbyn anyway, for various reasons.. But that was not a good interview and had I been considering it I would be very concerned now.

Corbyn, McDonnell and Momentum will never form a coalition with the LibDems they wouldn’t even support their own party leader and constantly voted against him (Blair and Brown)

It’s more important to Corbyn and co to stick to their left wing beliefs than be in power. Plotting the revolution is better than actually being in a position where you just have had to shift to the centre but can actually make changes

So another five years of Tory rule probably with a comfortable majority

Well done Corbyn

Corbyn, McDonnell and Momentum will never form a coalition with the LibDems they wouldn’t even support their own party leader and constantly voted against him (Blair and Brown)

You can't compare one with the other, they are not related. Corbyn etc voted against the policies of Blair and Brown because they were not truly left-wing policies so why would they?

Going into some sort of partnership, even if not a formal coalition, in order to form a government is definitely something Labour would want and they can do that and still hold true to their beliefs. They would have been prepared to form a Unity Government including the Lib Dems but Swinson was the one who refused to accept any government with Corbyn as leader.

So another five years of Tory rule probably with a comfortable majority Well done Corbyn

This is really ludicrous, is there nothing you won't blame Corbyn for?

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 21:13

once brexit is done investment can start again

When do you think will Brexit be 'done'? And how much investment will we have lost in the meantime due to instability and uncertainty in our economy. There is no such thing as getting Brexit 'done', only a simpleton (Boris Johnson) would spout such rubbish and only a simpleton would believe it.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/11/2019 21:18

The were not the policies of the left of the party

The Labour Party was formed as a centre left party not a left socialist party

You really do not understand the left wing of the Labour Party if you believe they would form and alliance with a centre party and one that has so recently got into bed with the Tories

I don’t just blame Corbyn I blame all those that have kept him there by blindly supporting him even though he has provided a woefully poor opposition - or are you going to claim he has been a good opposition leader because that is laughable

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/11/2019 21:27

Hasn’t Corbyn has already stated he wouldn’t form a coalition with anyone who supported austerity measures so that rules out Jo Swinson

And SNP well Corbyn has ruled out a second Scottish Independent referendum

While there is something to admire about sticking to your core political beliefs it’s not how politics works

Walkaround · 30/11/2019 21:35

Yes - ridiculous to blame Corbyn if the Tories get in again. If you vote Conservative, you only have yourself to blame if they get into power and you don't actually like them. Lifelong supporters of Labour who are now planning to vote Conservative because they are desperate to get Brexit might want to ask themselves why they can only rely on the Conservatives to push it through - and will need to remind themselves if they don't like the consequences that it was their active choice to push the country further to the right.

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 21:37

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed You're very lofty but actually you don't know any more than I do. Corbyn has ruled out making deals before the election and that's it, even if he had ruled lib dems out I know enough about how politics works to realise people will change their views when the situation demands.

The Labour Party was formed as a centre left party not a left socialist party

The Labour party incorporates a huge range of 'leftist' opinions ranging from extreme left to near-tory

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 21:38

Also - Corbyn has not 'ruled out' a second scottish independence ref - he has said it would not happen in the first term of a Labour gov.

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 21:44

I don’t just blame Corbyn I blame all those that have kept him there by blindly supporting him

Even more ludicrous than your first remark! People don't 'blindly' support him - they admire his resilience, his compassion and his ideas. Blindly supporting could really only apply to Tories at the moment, deliberately looking the other way or enthusiastically applauding every shocking revelation about Johnson as 'playing a blinder' (literally!) because they can't bear to admit the truth about him.

KeithPartridge · 30/11/2019 21:50

I wish people who plan to vote Tory would stop blaming Corbyn. It's their own decision to vote for those bastards so they should own it!

AhNowTed · 30/11/2019 22:02

@Trewser

"Twitter is absolutely not a barometer of real life."

I agree. It's an echo chamber by default.

"BJ not doing the interview is not going to make a blind bit of difference to how people vote."

Sadly I agree with this also.

The real battle is for undecided voters. Those of us that are engaged in the media, Twitter etc have long since made up our minds.

We're taking about those that don't necessarily pore over the news.

It's best summed up by John Rentoul in the Independent.

And as much as it pains me, I think he's right.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/11/2019 22:03

You really don’t get how the left of the Labour Party if you think Corbyn and co would form a coalition. For Corbyn those that supported austerity will always be enemies of the people and you really think the SNP are going to hold out for another 5 years supporting Labour on the promise there might be a Scottish Independence referendum should Labour win again

Labour to get in power have had to move to the centre from when they last moved over to the left they have won three elections in 40 years it’s pitiful

The Labour Party may within have a wide range of views (so do the Tories) but that’s irrelevant to what they need to be as a party to be in power

Why do you think the Conservatives are so successful it’s because they will adapt and will be flexible not lead by an ideology - in other words they will do what needs to be done to get in power - Corbyn isn’t lead by a desire to be in power to the extent he will give up some of his core beliefs to comprise

Corbyn wouldn’t even share a platform with the Tory leader even though they were both apparently campaigning on the same side of referendum

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 22:11

Of course he wouldn't share a platform with the repulsive Cameron - arrogant souless architect of misery for the poor

AhNowTed · 30/11/2019 22:16

"Why do you think the Conservatives are so successful it’s because they will adapt and will be flexible not lead by an ideology - in other words they will do what needs to be done to get in power - Corbyn isn’t lead by a desire to be in power to the extent he will give up some of his core beliefs to comprise "

To paraphrase, the Tories will say or do whatever it takes to gain power.

Party before country. Power above all else. And the manifesto means jack shit, as long as they're in No 10.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/11/2019 22:32

So he wouldn’t share a platform campaigning on the same side with DC (shall ignore the other dubious people he has shared platforms with for now)

Yet he will form a coalition with the LibDems supporters of all those austerity cuts

Right I see so his principals of politics are not that far from Johnson’s then

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/11/2019 22:34

I wouldn’t disagree with your statement Ted

noodlenosefraggle · 30/11/2019 22:41

Unfortunately, being in government is how you implement policy. Not by moaning on number and posting memes on twitter. Nor do you get to do any good by being ineffectual in the face of one of the worst governments in recent times, at a time of national crisis.

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 22:41

Yet he will form a coalition with the LibDems supporters of all those austerity cuts Right I see so his principals of politics are not that far from Johnson’s then

Johnson doesn't have any principles, so there is no comparison.

I'm talking about a situation where a government could be formed that would stop the Tories - in that situation of course Corbyn would have to compromise his principles as the only other option is to leave the country to be decimated by Johnson. Not a difficult choice.

Trewser · 30/11/2019 22:45

"try to put yourself in the mind of a floating voter who doesn’t pay much attention to politics. Each week, Michael Ashcroft’s opinion polls ask: “What incidents, events, stories etc have you noticed from the election campaign in the last few days?” The most common answer every week is: “None.” "

Yup.

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 22:45

Nor do you get to do any good by being ineffectual in the face of one of the worst governments in recent times

What is it that you think Labour should have done?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/11/2019 23:06

You have that much faith in Corbyn to believe he would compromise his principles

He won’t that is (one) or the issues with the left wing of the Labour Party they are lead by ideology

He would rather labour are in opposition and haven’t compromised than be in powers and compromise that is him to the very core

And how helpful is that to the people

ArseDarkly · 30/11/2019 23:12

He would rather labour are in opposition and haven’t compromised than be in powers and compromise that is him to the very core

I haven't seen or read anything to back that up. If you can back it up, other than just saying that I don't understand the left/labour then go ahead.

I've seen people on here theorising that the Tories don't really want to win the election and have to deal with all the crap coming their way - I don't believe that either.

This kind of talk is really silly bollocks

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 30/11/2019 23:35

Did he not claim to want to stay on the EU

Yet failed to share a platform with DC (and we know who he has shared platforms with and who he has had so called peace talks with that’s a different argument)

And then of course there is the issue of Anti Semitism - is his opposition to Israel’s government polices/actions the reason he has been so poor on dealing with the issues in his party (poor and irrelevant excuse)

To be a successful leader of a party to be a PM you need to be able to compromise on your principles

mathsquestions · 30/11/2019 23:42

I heartily agree that Boris Johnson should be interviewed by Andrew Neil but Jeremy Corbyn has avoided the LBC (particularly Nick Ferrari) for years and therefore has no right to criticise.

ArseDarkly · 01/12/2019 00:09

Fair point maths, Corbyn should go on Lbc, particularly as it's a phone-in so it adds a more human dimension
