It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

woolie
Have a look at the systems in France and Germany, I think they are a combination of state provision and private insurance.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:12

So you let the terrorists win by making you live in fear, and using the victims as cheap evidence in an imaginary argument with a random person online? That's no way to honour someone.

Scotinthenorth · 25/11/2019 10:13

I’m a member of the Conservative party. I’m working class. I vote them because it’s better for the country. Corbyn scares me and thankfully it looks like he won’t ever get in. Momentum run that party

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:13

@ChazsBrilliantAttitude but does that benifits everyone or just the middle and above classes?

BovaryX · 25/11/2019 10:14

Which part of ‘to invite Conservative voters to gather here’ is hard to comprehend? What’s with the compulsion to gatecrash?

GivenchyDahhling · 25/11/2019 10:14

Conservative voter at every election (general, Europe, local, London Assembly, Mayoral, even bloody Police Commissioner now I’m in Essex) since I was 18 at the 2010 election. No other party complements my social and economic values so not a difficult decision for me, even more so as I’ve got older and now started a family. Also my husband is a special advisor so I would rather not lose that part of our household income....

Not sure why Corbyn supporters have popped up on this thread to have a go since the thread title has made it pretty clear what the thread is for. But that’s fairly typical of Corbyn’s Labour - everyone is entitled to be treated equally, fairly, think and do what they want etc - as long as they agree with us.

MilkTrayLimeBarrel · 25/11/2019 10:16

@BowermansNose - It isn't Conservative policy to unilaterally implement Brexit - it was voted for by a majority of the people (who voted) and we are fed up with waiting for it to happen!

Goddessofgrowth · 25/11/2019 10:16

It doesn’t matter if people want to come on and argue politics really. What I hate are the walls of ‘I can’t understand whhhhhy anyone would ...’

If Labour is best for your family, go ahead and vote for them, but respect others will do the same with a different result.

I love the Labour solution seems to be other people pay more. Yes I am very fortunate to be in Jeremy’s 5% and I am a net contributor. If the NHS was properly reformed then I am happy to have a discussion about extra taxes but when it’s is going to pay off one of the myriad PFI contracts started under Major and massively expanded by Brown I may as well dig a hole a chuck the money in it for the good it will do.

Trewser · 25/11/2019 10:19

I voted remain but I really don’t want a second referendum. A ‘coalition of chaos’ which leads to us remaining will lead to a massive upsurge in the far right within a decade. I guarantee it

I agree with you.

Doingitaloneandproud · 25/11/2019 10:20

I'll be voting Conservative as will my family. I understand some people don't like who I will vote for however I don't like theirs, I just respect their right to make the decision themselves to vote what they believe the best party is

HarryElephante · 25/11/2019 10:20

particularly like the bringing back bursaries for nursing degrees, more for policing

The policing nhmbers that the Tories cut in the first place?

Bobbybobbins · 25/11/2019 10:20

I totally respect anyone's voting decision. Everyone had got to do what is right for them.

For those confused about why people would 'gatecrash'- I think if you read any of the Mumsnet political threads you will find people of every political persuasion.

Was just saying that in response to some comments about Tory economic policies being better for the country - on a personal level it depends entirely on your family situation.

Jillyhilly · 25/11/2019 10:20

What I hate are the walls of ‘I can’t understand whhhhhy anyone would

Agree. This attitude reflects an ideological view of the world and a complete and utter lack of desire to “understand why anyone would”.

Chattybum · 25/11/2019 10:21

@woolie34 what do you mean that the Palestinian situation is too complicated for us to understand it? Do you think Jeremy 'I scaped one A Level and have an extremely tenuous grasp on reality' Corbyn gets it in a way the rest of us can't? I find the slavish cult surrounding him extremely reminiscent of Animal Farm, with momentum having a very sinister kinship to the puppies that Napoleon adopted.

Also I think that more generally, Labour is more interested in jazzy looking promises that appeal to the disenfranchised than actual politics and the boring old world of reality.

My nan used to tell me to circle everything I wanted for Christmas in the Argos catalogue. So, mad with excitement I did. Come Christmas day I would get something totally bonkers from the local rummage sale. I was never disappointed because it happened most years. I fear Jeremy may have the same benevolent, open cheque book approach, which sadly in this case will end up with high unemployment, low tax receipts, a rock bottom treasury and a lot of disappointment all round.

scaryteacher · 25/11/2019 10:21

Woolie If that was aimed at me, then I am an HM Forces daughter, daughter in law, wife, sister and aunt. I grew up with my Dad checking under the car every morning to see if the IRA had stuck a bomb under it. I don't live in fear, but I have a healthy respect for the work of the Intelligence services who do their best to keep us safe. You are the one being flippant about it being more likely to die from choking on your dinner than being killed in an attack. If you knew people who had been maimed or killed in the Brussels attacks, as I do, then perhaps you wouldn't be so fucking glib about it.

Limitedsimba123 · 25/11/2019 10:22

I have always voted Tory but is no one else concerned about the proposed changes to the Human Rights Act and curtailment of Judicial Review? The fact it it has been included in a very watered down manifesto suggests it is going to be a priority post Brexit. Also, what is the point of throwing money at police officers when the criminal justice system is so woefully underfunded. A hung Parliament is the best outcome for this election.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:23

@Goddessofgrowth I completely understand and agree that if tory is best for people then they should vote for it. I only ask questions as many people don't have it in their best interests, and it would be a shame to see people suffer of their own doing by being misinformed. My partner is a support worker for some of societies most vulnerable people. The things they say that just aren't true but because someone is using them by telling them these lies is just upsetting. Particularly as my partner would never be unprofessional and try to influence them, so just has to listen whilst they say they will vote for someone who will make their already bad situation a lot worse, and not be able to say or do anything. It's incredibly sad and frustrating.

Genevieva · 25/11/2019 10:27

I am a floating voter voting Tory. I am not in a safe seat. The only way I can see Labour returning to the centre left is if they are decimated at this election. I can't bring myself to vote for the current Lib Dems either because of their game playing over this election - I don't even know if we will have a Lib Dem candidate. What I really want is to see the SNP destroyed, but that isn't going to happen until Labour and the Lib Dems present themselves as credible parties of government.

AutumnGlitterBall · 25/11/2019 10:27

I’m a Scottish Conservative voter, DH too, not that it’ll make much difference in my constituency. SNP got 35000 votes the last time, Labour and Tories about 8000 each. Liberals lost the deposit. Could never vote SNP or Green. I think the country would be bankrupt within a couple of years if we became independent and I can’t believe that a party who’s been around for fifty odd years with the sole aim of Scottish independence still has no valid plan for a currency. I’m not poor, being a police officer, but I also can’t support being taxed into oblivion to pay for ‘free’ stuff. I was one of the 5% who declined a baby box. My sister is a teacher who says education is going down the tubes. My school routinely did eight standard grades and had a very good pass rate. Now it does five under Curriculum for Excellence. How is that an improvement?
I do think having lost Ruth Davidson has massively harmed the Scottish Tories chances though.

Trewser · 25/11/2019 10:27

Good grief.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:27

@Chattybum I'm saying someone whose job is literally in the government, liaising with other governments and countries will have more knowledge than someone who read a watered down biased opinion in a newspaper. I'm post grad in my subject, but wouldn't have a clue about being a mechanic fixing cars, so not sure why only having an a level is worse than more education or how you are comparing intelligence?

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:28

@Trewser I apologise for thinking of others. I know it is not a widely accepted tory trait

Dontsweatthelittlestuff · 25/11/2019 10:30

Harry yes.
I like the idea that if previous action is shown not to be working then you reverse it.
In 2017 bursaries for nursing were stopped since then the royal college of nursing have found that applications for nursingdegrees have dropped by a third at a time when we already need more nurses.
There it is a sensible position to bring back the bursaries.

Justanotherlurker · 25/11/2019 10:30

This is priceless!
