It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

Woolie I really don’t see how the NHS can continue to be funded without raising taxes to the point where they are actually putting working people at a disadvantage.

The nhs was great when it started. Now, not so much. Too many people living too long!

@Goddessofgrowth the American system is only superior if you have money. If you don’t it’s genuinely frightening.

Snowjive2 · 25/11/2019 09:57

Something for every Tory voter to read and reflect upon www.indy100.com/article/boris-johnson-offensive-comments-women-gay-people-minorities-lgbt-9215711

GinDaddy · 25/11/2019 09:57

@Goddessofgrowth

What's your alternative solution / proposal to the NHS please?

BlackInk · 25/11/2019 09:57

Hmmm...

To invite Conservative voters to gather here
GlitchStitch · 25/11/2019 09:57

Lifelong labour voter here, switching to Tory this time. And I'm sick of being guilt tripped about it. Don't blame me, blame the other parties for making themselves unelectable. Labour have been told for years that they are alienating large groups of voters with Corbyn at the helm, with anti-Semitism and with their misogynistic TRA agenda. Bromentum and the cult of Corbyn are so arrogant that they ignore the concerns of ordinary people and still think they can get to be outraged when these voters go elsewhere. They can fuck off frankly.

BovaryX · 25/11/2019 09:58

Thanks for the thread OP, we are out there, despite what the shouty momentum activists on here like to think

Well said. They can’t even keep out of this thread!

MidnightCircus · 25/11/2019 10:00

Definitely going for the Tories; not because I particularly want to but I honestly cannot bring myself to go for the others. Traditionally been Lib Dem, so this is a new one for me. That party appears to have gone insane though Confused

Goddessofgrowth · 25/11/2019 10:00

I don’t know, Gin. I’m not a healthcare professional or an expert and I don’t profess to be. However, I completely refute the idea that there is our nhs, then America, and then nothing in between.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:00

@Goddessofgrowth I assume you have money for private health are. In which case that's fine. Tory is the best party for you to vote for. But if you don't, like most people, then I'd look into where tories spend the money they should be spending on the NHS. They seemed able to find money to bribe dup when they needed to

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/11/2019 10:01

woolie

The NHS needs reform. We have an aging population and more expensive treatments. There will never be enough money for the NHS because it’s remit keeps expanding.

I support the concept of the NHS it is actually an efficient ways to provide services
www.ifs.org.uk/uploads/HEAJ6319-How-good-is-the-NHS-180625-WEB.pdf

However, we have to recognise that the NHS cannot do all that is asked of it because we are asking things of it that it was never designed to do.

Goddessofgrowth · 25/11/2019 10:01

And black, that shows a complete misunderstanding. It’s not about whether I ‘like’ Corbyn or not. I fundamentally disagree with his policies. That means that I reject the house, not the curtains Hmm

rosie1959 · 25/11/2019 10:03

Yes thank you OP for this thread
If Labour are so wonderful why are they trailing so miserably in the polls
Unfortunately for them Corbyns attitude to Brexit has done most of the damage

LakieLady · 25/11/2019 10:03

@woolie34 I don't get it either. I've actually met Corbyn several times and he is one of the most sincere, respectful and genuine people I've come across. Rare qualities in a politician!

regmover · 25/11/2019 10:04

Yes - ex Labour supporter here, now voting Conservative. Silly little red boxes such as the one pasted in above do nothing to change my mind, the fact is that if Labour were to get in Corbyn would be PM, and Diane Abbott would be in a position of responsibility and I refuse to do anything to bring that about. There are too many reasons why I've made this decision to list really. And of course I don't need to defend my position because this is clearly a post for Conservative voters. Nobody invited Labour supporters here for a rant to try and convert us. Grin

Goddessofgrowth · 25/11/2019 10:05

I don’t doubt that Lakie

Maybe he is a lovely gentleman. I don’t know him. It’s the policies I’m critical of.

I am a floating voter having voted both labour and Tory in past elections.
I have just finished reading the conservative manifesto and as much as I am not a boris fan I do think his manifesto is the one I will be voting for.
I particularly like the bringing back bursaries for nursing degrees, more for policing and tougher stop and seach powers along with longer sentences for violent crime and life meaning life for child killers.
The manifesto has moderate spending promises and controlled borrowing.

So I will be voting blue in December.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 10:07

@ChazsBrilliantAttitudeThat's why Labour want to tax high earners a minimal amount more that will altogether create enough to cover what needs to be done. That means if yooy take home £4500 or more after tax, an extra £10 a month would go out of wages. That's three cups of coffee at starbucks. We as a family of 3 struggle but manage to live on £1600 a month. If we had £4500 a month we'd be more than happy to make sure everyone can get the medical care they need.

Babynamechangerr · 25/11/2019 10:07

Tory party member here, but for me I support them as they're the least worst option economically not because I support all their policies.

SpaghettiSharon · 25/11/2019 10:07

@Goddessofgrowth, you’re right there are other models of healthcare around the world that we could emulate. We really need, as a nation, a very grown up conversation about what we can and can’t afford though and we also all need to sign up to what most European countries recognise as the social contract of higher taxation for improved public services. This is not party politics but just reality. It’s certainly not going to be a view espoused by the current PM as we saw yesterday at the manifesto launch.

scaryteacher · 25/11/2019 10:08

Woolie I'd like to see you make that comment to those killed at Bataclan, and those killed at Zaventem (Brussels airport) and on the Brussels metro. I'd like you to tell that to the girl my son was at school with who lost her lower limbs at Zaventem.

I won't vote Labour as Corbyn wants to take the UK out of NATO. We would also lose Five Eyes access, both things crucial to our security.

Mintjulia · 25/11/2019 10:08

Tentative Tory.

I can’t vote for Corbyn, the man is certifiable. I’m not happy with any of the other choices but a vote for Lib Dem is a waste in my constituency.

bathsh3ba · 25/11/2019 10:08

Have always voted Conservative. Don't agree with everything they do or stand for but they are the closest match to my values. I'm also a domestic abuse survivor and my sister is on highest level disability support. I claim universal credit and have had no difficulties with it. I use the NHS regularly, including partly privatised services. I don't subscribe to the fear mentality that the Tories will privatise the NHS or leave people with disabilities destitute. The system is far from perfect but we should be encouraging those who can to work and supporting those who can't and it had gone too far one way.

As a university student I was in Paris the day the French voted no in the 2005 treaty referendum. They were told they got it wrong and to vote again and they did. That just sums the EU up for me. Well I'm not supporting an organisation that holds multiple referenda till they get the 'right' answer. Remind you of anyone?

x2boys · 25/11/2019 10:09

As I said on another thread I worked for the NHS under Labour and it wasent great then, it doesn't matter how much money you throw at it it's completley mismanaged ,this idea that Labour is the saviour of the NHS ,makes me laugh, i was redeployed twice in 12 months between 2005 and 2006 due to cuts the NHS needs a complete over haul .

Bobbybobbins · 25/11/2019 10:10

I would not vote Conservative as Labour is better for my family both socially and economically. However, not a massive fan of Corbyn.
