It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

woolie34 you are doing the typical MN Labour supporting ‘thing’. You claim to be ‘genuinely interested’ in hearing points of view but what you are actually doing is just trying to prove their opinions wrong. Go and read all 30 odd pages of the Labour and anti-semitism thread and then honestly tell me there is no problem with anti-semitism in the Labour Party under Corbyn’s leadership. I’m not going to re-state all the evidence on here.

Milicentbystander72 · 25/11/2019 09:36

Woolie, did you read the 2 AS in Labour threads? I urge you to.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:39

But as I said, he doesn't want to get rid of the army, it was a comment like some one just saying "wouldn't this be good?" as in "wouldn't it be good if cancer didn't exist? " he's not going to get rid of the army, that's absurd to extrapolate that from a throwaway comment! Stopping expansion isn't the same as scaling down, but again there is no evidence he said he wanted to do that anyway.

GhostofFrankGrimes · 25/11/2019 09:40

Terrifying: supporting the NHS, nationalised railways

Not terrifying: foodbanks, crumbling public services, austerity, no deal brexit

BovaryX · 25/11/2019 09:42

Woolie, you have come into this thread which was aimed at Conservative voters, for what purpose? If it’s to harangue, repeat cliches or give moral lectures? You’re wasting your time. I and presumably many others on this thread have absolutely zero intention of voting for McDonnell and his buddies. And the demonization? It just bores me

mummmy2017 · 25/11/2019 09:44

Everytime Corbyn opens his mouth, there seems to be a price to pay.
He did this to students then backtracked.
Right now we need some sort of stability, and Boris is it.

TheYear · 25/11/2019 09:45

Long term Tory here

I remember thinking at the time it was announced that the 2017 election was a disastrous idea. I do sometimes wonder where we'd be now if it hadn't gone ahead.

I have very eclectic friendships groups - friends are mostly a mixture but leaning to Tory. But work and study they are all (and I mean all!) non-Tory. I can't have a balanced conversation with them Grin so it's good to find this thread!

AnnaForbes · 25/11/2019 09:45

I will vote Tory. I run my own business and historically Tories have been more business-friendly. Certainly, tax-wise it looks less painful. Also the fact their manifesto doesn't mention GRA leads me to hope they are pretending they ever started their ill-conceived reforms.

I would never vote for Corbyn for his poor grasp on economics, capitulation to trade unions, all-women shortlists, Lily Madagain, and for his anti-semitism. Dcs go to grammar schools - another reason to avoid a Labour vote. Actually there are so many reasons not to vote labour that I dont have time to list them all here.

LibDems a shower of misogynist shite. Green party ditto.

IceCreamFace · 25/11/2019 09:45

I think it depends what you're willing to risk. When you're not disabled, don't risk going hungry, don't risk being homeless, don't risk having your vital mental health support cut off, don't believe you'll need the NHS in an emergency any time soon. Corbyn sounds really scary (and I think he's well meaning but utterly unrealistic and out of touch). The fact is that you have the luxury to be scared of him because you're privileged enough to be out of touch with the impact of cuts. (I don't believe most people are actually selfish enough to vote Tory knowing the impact it will have on societies most vulnerable members).

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:46

Just had a quick look at the threads you suggested. It was hard to go through it all as the replies I saw were all just people saying they think he's racist, but again not why. I did see mention of the Palestinian government. This is a very complex situation that we can not understand. He is a peace keeper, trying to promote talking and peace within it. As for antisemitism here, as I said yes it should be looked into, as with every other party who is equally culpable of it. I am sorry if I offend anyone by trying to have an open discussion about it. I am happy to listen to anything that contradicts my views.

NegroniOnIce · 25/11/2019 09:46

I'm so angry that Labour have that fucking twat at the helm, making people feel they have no option but to vote for a party that will ruin this country even more than it is already. My biggest worry is our NHS

So with you on this. Previous Conservative voter but I will not put my vote towards enabling Brexit. The thought of Corbyn in charge is not quite as terrifying as McDonnell and Abbot in the great offices of State. I'm very worried.

Conservative voters here. Probably won’t make much difference as it has always been conservative. Corby is hideous, he is controlled by the unions and they want to return to the days of strikes and flying pickets. McDonell and his policies is a really nasty piece of work. They are all controlled by the sinister Milne, public school boy and Oxford educated.

I don’t really rate Boris but our conservative MP is involved in local issues and seems reasonable.

I have never voted labour but there will be a massive fall out when they lose again, perhaps a reasonable party will arise from the wreckage?

Bee1511 · 25/11/2019 09:48

I used to be a Tory voter but I can’t support a party who doesn’t give a crap about the less fortunate anymore. But I don’t really agree with labour or the Lib Dem’s. In my area it’s between a Tory and a Lib Dem MP and I’m struggling to support either.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:49

Can you give me a link so I can look into the defence thing then?

Goddessofgrowth · 25/11/2019 09:49

Re the NHS - put simply, I think it needs completely shaking up and reorganising.

It was created in the 1950s. It simply doesn’t work in 2019. We have a larger population who are living longer, we have far more awareness of illnesses, diseases and conditions and as such the NHS isn’t fit for purpose.

From what I can gather the American system is superior in terms of what it actually offers. With that being said it is obviously unfair to penalise people for being unwell! However, many countries have an ‘in between’ model that works and I do think we need to look at alternatives.

waves

@MrsToothyBitch me too!

Cannot stand Corbyn. Not the biggest Boris fan but he is far more preferable. Our local MP is a Tory and from what I’ve seen does OK.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:51

What haranguing, clichés or moral lectures or demonisation have I said? If you are feeling that way I suggest it's down to your own conscience.

GinDaddy · 25/11/2019 09:52

I am a lifelong Labour supporter but I am finding it very hard to vote for Jeremy Corbyn and the present incarnation of the Labour Party.

My main reasons are:

  • The party clearly has an anti-Semitism problem and is in denial about it to the point where it has not been properly addressed. No so-called "progressive" party can ever put forward wholesome policies for the country if they can't get their own house in order.
  • The party has an unrealistic view about defence and national security, and is pursuing ideology over facts
  • While the Tories incorrectly put the financial crash at the feet of the Labour Party and claimed it was their fault, some of the Labour proposals this year have been ridiculous and clearly uncosted .

Saying that, I refuse to vote for Johnson's Conservatives either so it's going to be an interesting year..

GOODCAT · 25/11/2019 09:53

I plan to vote conservative. I don't like it, especially as a remainer, but I just cannot vote for any of the other parties.

Labour's spending plans are awful and I don't want to be part of a nanny state. The others are much the same. This election should be a slam dunk for a centrist Labour party but Corbyn has moved it so far left I couldn't vote for it. I also don't like him saying he is going to be neutral on Brexit. I want an opinion and leadership.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:53

The NHS doesn't work because the funding as been decimated by the tories. If I reduced your weekle food shop budget from £50 to £1,no amount of reshuffling will help. Just look at all the doctors, nurses, etc urging people to not vote Conservative. They are the people that see it and know best what is happening.

BowermansNose · 25/11/2019 09:54

I'm not a great fan of Corbyn, and I will be voting Labour because I have a good Labour MP (the type that would fit in the centrist Labour tradition).

However, I don't understand the people who people who find the prospect of Corbyn so terrifying. Corbyn isn't going to turn into some Stalinist dictator if he were elected PM, and he's not going to launch some Maoist cultural revolution. His demands for nationalisation would be stymied by the reality of doing it.

On the other hand, we have a Conservative Government promising to do significant damage to the UK, through Brexit, threatening the peace process, potentially leading to the breakup of the UK, and will do significant damage to our economy.

Jillyhilly · 25/11/2019 09:55

I’ve voted Labour before but am happy to vote Tory this time. I think Corbyn and the hard left is appalling, and McDonnell will wreck the economy.

Generally speaking I find people on the right to have a much better grasp of economic realities and weirdly (I say this as an ex-lefty!) far less judgemental than folk on the left.

EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit · 25/11/2019 09:55

Traditional floating voter here.

Will be voting Tory. Never ever Jezbollah.

I won’t list all of my reasons here, as I am already pretty active on another thread in the brexit section, where my reasons have been repeatedly detailed, as have those of countless others.

Thanks for the thread OP, we are out there, despite what the shouty momentum activists on here like to think.

GinDaddy · 25/11/2019 09:56

@EpicShitDippedBatBiscuit

Jezbollah! Grin
