It’s ‘best of a bad bunch’ in my case but there are three threads petrified of BJ/Tories so wondered if any MN Tories would like to gather here!

Hey! Thank you for the invitation. Conservative voter here and think the demonization of Tories is tedious. It’s part of the totalitarian tendency which makes people terrified of giving a dissenting opinion

SpiderCharlotte · 25/11/2019 09:12

I am a Labour and corbyn supporter, but always take the time to independentlt fact check every politician of every party who has been acussed of wrongdoing as not to be biased. I have yet to find anything legitimately scary about corbyn

I'm sorry, but you really need to go back and check some more.

HamptonThought · 25/11/2019 09:14

Joining in. Brought up with Labour politics deeply in family and helped campaign for a family member to be elected. Later on campaigned for Lib Dems.
I'll be voting Tory this time round for various reasons.
And frankly I'm sick of being made out to be evil because of this. it makes me even more determined to vote Tory so neh Disagreeing is key to democracy so insisting that no one votes anything but Labour is massively hypocritical.

JasonPollack · 25/11/2019 09:15

Do hope you all have BUPA and no descendents!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/11/2019 09:16

I will vote Conservative in the next election. I don’t like Boris at all but the thought of John McDonell in charge of the economy worries me deeply.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 25/11/2019 09:18

Jason

Stop being so boringly predictable. You are hardly going to win hearts and minds like that.

Well said. It’s sloppy, lazy and really irritating. Those doing it refuse to accept there are valid political opinions which are not left wing. And that people have the freedom to vote however they want without being demonized

What sort of answer is this? What do you find terrifying about Corbyn? A genuine question asked in good faith.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:20

I did a quick search and when you actually see what he said in full was that it would be wonderful if all armies ceased to be, saving money that could be used for homeless etc. Akin to someone saying they want world peace. As for the other thing, no record there at all. You are more likely statistically to get killed choking on your dinner than a terrorist attack in Europe. Someone saying they want world peace won't cause more terror attacks. Please don't let your fear drive you.

Milicentbystander72 · 25/11/2019 09:22

I think it will be Tory for me this time. I don't think the Tories are in great shape but I think I will plump for them.

To be fair it's not just Corbyn who I dislike - it's the whole of the front bench. I just hate the 'free cake and rainbows for all' manifesto. I'm quite old and have seen a few different governments. I'm certain Labour will bankrupt the country.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:22

I'm happy to fact check more if you just tell me what it is I need to examine.

It also saddens me how many remainers dismiss working class leave voters as ‘thick’ and ‘racist’ and ‘gullible’ and ‘not knowing what they voted for’. I saw one post on FB after the referendum from a Corbyn fangirl which said “this is why thick people shouldn’t be allowed to vote”. Sadly, that’s the message that working class leave voters are getting from those that they (rightly or wrongly) describe as champagne socialists. It’s no wonder they’re deserting the Labour in droves.

GiveHerHellFromUs · 25/11/2019 09:24

My family are all Labour, grew up in a council house. My mom has spent most of my life on benefits (but I didn't live with her) - very much a working class family.

Now I have a decent job with a partner who has spent years training to do what he does and earns well because of it. We have a house with a very expensive mortgage and because we have nice things people automatically think we're rich and try to sponge off us.
Well we've worked hard for those nice things, and they cost money, so no, we shouldn't give them up to the likes of my siblings who've spent 4 years at uni to decide they can't be arsed to work hard so instead take a MW job and expect handouts.

Rant over Grin

Velveteenfruitbowl · 25/11/2019 09:25

I don’t like any of Britain’s political parties at the moment. But Jeremy Corbyn looks up to the people who perpetrated genocide against my race and ethnic cleansing (along with a number of other crimes) against my own family. The labour party’s major funder has a bust of the man which started it all in his office. I couldn’t stand it if they won. These kinds of people should be cast out not elected to Parliament.

rosie1959 · 25/11/2019 09:29

Have always voted conservative
Certainly would not even consider labour with Corbyn at the helm
Socialism is fine until you run out of other peoples money
His spending plans are off the scale wanting to nationalise rail water utilities I am old enough to remember the 70s nothing wonderful about British Rail
He seems to want government control of all walks of life
Raising corporation tax doesn't just hit the big boys but all the small limited companies with directors that earn far less than 80k
I am more than prepared to give Boris a chance he is looking forward with enthusiasm The worse thing for any economy is negative thinking

Velveteenfruitbowl · 25/11/2019 09:29

@woolie34 but what about someone who supports terrorists? I’m not sure that world peace is what Jeremy Corbyn wants given his expressions of joy at the massacres in Venezuela or the dismay he felt when Castro died. Not a peace loving man at all. Just anti military. There is a major distinction.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:30

If your biggest worry is the NHS then why are you not backing labour? There are reports of secret meetings to discuss the NHS with America that we aren't being allowed to know the details of, tory government now is giving tax breaks to private hospitals and hikes to NHS ones. Again all stuff you can easily Google yourself if you don't believe me. I have no interest in arguing with people who want to vote tory. I just want everyone to be fully aware what they are voting as it would be sad if the most vulnerable vote for the wrong party and suffer for it. Me and my husband have Asthma. I gave thyroid tablets. My biggest fear is my son inheriting it. I've read stories of American parents who can't afford asthma pumps (250-350 dollars a month) for their kids because of private health care. Living everyday hoping their child doesn't have a fatal asthma attack. That is frightening.

Milicentbystander72 · 25/11/2019 09:31

Oh yes and the Labour Party meeting the threshold for the EHCP to launch and investigation into Anti-Semitism is another good reason.

There's been 2 massive threads on this in the past week.

Pepperwand · 25/11/2019 09:32

Another swing voter here who will be voting Conservative this time. Mainly it's because I think we need to leave the EU with a deal and think a majority Conservative government would get the current deal over the line. I seriously worry about a coalition led by Corbyn and the chaos and months of uncertainty that could lead from that and the fact that the Labour manifesto essentially promises Scandinavian levels of public spending but without Scandinavian levels of taxation, they are just not credible for me.

woolie34 · 25/11/2019 09:32

But has he though, or have you read it in a trickled down version. Again. Look for the source, not someone's interpretation of it and it will always not be as black and white as you think. Because he didn't say that. Why would someone spend their life voting for things that are anti what you are saying have done that? Google his voting record and decide for yourself.

Babdoc
We live in the same constituency-Pete Wishart is beyond awful
I am voting Tory- It is a straight fight between SNP & Tory here , every vote counts and any other vote is wasted- I never voted Conservative until after the 2014 Indy Ref-

I am not a dyed in the wool Tory- I have voted labour & Lib Dem in the past- Couldn't vote for the momentum crowd. If I lived in East Dumbartonshire (Jo Swinson) or any of the other SNP/LIb dem marginals I would vote tactically for them against the SNP

NiteFlights · 25/11/2019 09:34

I am very unhappy with Labour’s approach to women’s rights as they relate to transgender rights. I am also very unhappy with the antisemitism in the party. They have policies I disagree with, and I think they need a new leader and a change of approach. I deplore the way they have handled Brexit.

However, I am far more afraid of a Conservative government, especially led by Johnson, who I find genuinely frightening in his attitude towards ... well, most things, really, but truth and the law are two big ones to start with.

My Conservative MP, who I do have respect for, isn’t standing for re-election anyway. A lot of sensible Tories have gone. Traditional Conservatism I can understand, but what we have now is scary. I read a lot online about the US system and it is terrifying. That is the direction in which the current lot would like to go, and sauve qui peut.

I would be happy to be slightly poorer under a Labour government if it keeps poor and disabled people alive, which the Tories have proved they do not think is particularly important.

I’m interested in other’s replies, thanks for starting the thread OP.

It's good their is an investigation, their should always be in cases of suspected rasicm. If only everyone were as concerned with the antisemitism and islamaphobia prevelant in the tories and brexit party.
