I am breastfeeding so can’t wear any of my usual dresses. Can I wear black jeans and a smart ish jumper?

I never seen jeans at a christening. Upto you.

Kimbo1974 · 24/11/2019 12:05

Yes 💯

TowelNumber42 · 24/11/2019 12:05

Yes. So long as you look like you've made an effort you are fine. Hair, makeup and accessories will matter.

Tink88 · 24/11/2019 12:06

Not appropriate

QueenOfWinterfell · 24/11/2019 12:06

Inappropriate

Black jeans are fine unless your the godmother

Hefzi · 24/11/2019 12:10

Depends on so many things, to be honest - but technically, yes.

If you are a godparent, unless you know it's the kind of church everybody wears jeans, you will probably feel a bit conspicuously under-dressed. If you aren't, probably no one will notice, but it depends on your personality as to whether it would bother you if it turns out not to be a jeans-wearing church. (NB, I'm assuming you aren't the parent only because I assume that you know what goes in your own church Grin)

Greedytiger · 24/11/2019 12:12

Just a distant friend so definitely won’t be in any photos.

If I was a man would jeans and a shirt be acceptable?

OP posts:
NoHummus · 24/11/2019 12:12

It's fine.

HouseHuntingHetty · 24/11/2019 12:13

Not appropriate?? For who? God? Pretty sure he doesn't care what people wear to church!

Hadalifeonce · 24/11/2019 12:13

I am sure you have been invited because you are who you are, not what you wear.

Of course they are acceptable.

SomewhereInbetween1 · 24/11/2019 12:14

Black jeans, nice jumper and a blazer or similar would be pretty 😊

notyourmummy · 24/11/2019 12:15

Totally fine. I'll be wearing jeans to my daughter's baptism in January, and I don't expect anyone at my church to mind in the slightest!

milkysmum · 24/11/2019 12:16

Of course you can. Like you said a man wouldn't even question wearing jeans. Wear what you are comfortable in.

KindnessCrusader · 24/11/2019 12:16

You'd fit right in at our church (Baptisms are held during regular family services!)

Parker231 · 24/11/2019 12:18

Of course it’s fine - it’s not a dressy event. It’s a celebration for the baby not the adults. Usually lots of children there so jeans are probably most appropriate.

Anessia · 24/11/2019 12:18

Why not wear a skirt and a top? I'm a breastfeeding mom too and all I wear is skirts with tops or wrap/buttoned dresses.

Sparklyring · 24/11/2019 12:19

I wouldn't but I wouldn't expect anyone too, male or female.

notforonesecond · 24/11/2019 12:19

Black jeans and a nice top would definitely be fine for any of the christening I’ve been to. Especially a winter one. Go for it!

DramaAlpaca · 24/11/2019 12:20

Smart black jeans would be fine.

Greedytiger · 24/11/2019 12:20

I don’t have a suitable skirt and top. My skirts are al summery and wouldn’t like right with tights.

mrsbyers · 24/11/2019 12:21

I think it’s hideous when people dress up to the nines in full evening make up , hats , fascinators etc for a christening - usually just for social media

Hedgehogblues · 24/11/2019 12:21

It's fine. I wore jeans to my own child's. As did lots of my friends who came

MrsNoMopp · 24/11/2019 12:21

Could you find some smarter trousers which are a similar fit?

TidyDancer · 24/11/2019 12:22

I don't think I would do this.
