Very impressed with her clear headed answers. Envy Scottish people for having someone so good fighting in their corner.

How do you think elections work, RJ? It's not up to the SNP now people vote in the post-independence elections! I could see an only-Scottish Labour Party doing well again, for example.

AnneElliott · 23/11/2019 14:49

She's a very effective debater and politician. I definitely understand why Scottish people would want independence (I voted for Brexit) but I don't understand why Brexit would be a economic disaster and a nationalistic backwards step whereas Scottish independence would be economically viable and is presented as a progressive position.

RJnomore1 · 23/11/2019 14:50

Can you?

I do wonder how the SNP will proceed if they don’t have the Big Bad to constantly rail against and blame for their shortcomings. They’re in a bizarre situation where they actually do themselves out of their reason for existence if they achieve their aim. However their long term goal will be to cling to power at any cost - without them being a protest vote how they do that will be interesting.

I could actually see some sort of separate Scottish Conservative party doing pretty well. However I genuinely hope all of this is purely speculative due to the utter disaster and financial drain that another referendum would be.

beforeyougo · 23/11/2019 14:52

Of course the deficit doesn't just vanish but I'd rather our deficit doesn't increase funding trident, renovating Westminster, subsidising HS2 and paying expenses for MP's who continue to show utter contempt for Scotland.

HopeOverFear · 23/11/2019 15:01

The Scottish NHS is the best performing NHS. It's no secret that's it's struggling and needs improvement without question however the reality is right now no one is managing it better! I am not sure that can then be a negative against the SNP?

Not claiming Westminster can do it better is the point surely? Scotland don't have to be the richest country in the world as an independent county just better than where we are now which is better than Westminster. Which I believe is absolutely achievable.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 23/11/2019 16:06

Well all I can say is I thought the NHS was in a bad enough state when living in England. It is far worse here. However, it depends what area of Scotland you are in.

HeresMe · 23/11/2019 19:12

Some people are anti nuclear weapons I can understand that, but by same token faslane is the second biggest employer on it as well, how does Nichola Sturgeon plan on replacing those jobs.

She's tainted by Salmond too innocent or guilty, she's have unregistered meetings with him.

Whilst I am happy to agree with Scotland's self determination, I don't get why you would want to be independent but then join another union.

EntropyRising · 23/11/2019 19:23

@reginafelangee
thank you for your brilliant post.

I don't understand how Sturgeon remains so fashionable with the non-Scottish left. Do they not know much about Scotland?

Bobson · 23/11/2019 19:30

A very accomplished politician. She will always look good compared to carcrash Johnson.

Mummadeeze · 23/11/2019 19:36

She is very impressive. I agree with you.

Livelovebehappy · 23/11/2019 19:45

YABVU! Have you been drinking OP??

StatisticallyChallenged · 23/11/2019 19:46

EntropyRising I think no, they don't. She talks a good leftie progressive talk, she's a seasoned politician who can come across well, and Scotland has a few leftie ideals (free uni for example) therefore she must be amazing. The more nuanced picture, the reality of failing services and budget cuts, is missed in the envy.

That's my take anyway...

catwithnohat · 23/11/2019 19:52

She couldn't do any worse a job than any of the other halfwits that are currently in Westminster.

Dreamersandwishers · 23/11/2019 20:03

@zsazsajuju Scottish to my bones. As I said, Not in my Name. Me & The 60% who vote for parties other than the SNP

HeresMe · 24/11/2019 20:38

That's the problem they are a single issue party, they are screwing scotland for their own agenda.

Is hope they went away if got independence but think Nichola would find a new cause.

Chickenwing · 24/11/2019 20:51

YANBU. She is fantastic.

Oncebitten33 · 24/11/2019 20:53

Do people really not get that being in the UK is a completely different issue from being in the EU? Not all unions are the same, fgs.

HeresMe · 24/11/2019 21:57

And regardless to the eu most of Scotland's trade is with the UK.

What's sturgeons plan she is totally clueless about anything unless it's independence

Seeingadistance · 24/11/2019 21:58

You’re not wrong. The EU is a much younger union, and even those who campaigned for it can’t untangle it, so what hope do we have of breaking the much older UK Union? And for whose benefit?

LellyMcKelly · 24/11/2019 22:03

Regardless of her politics she’s one of the smartest politicians in the UK and at least she actually believes what she’s saying and can articulate it clearly and with passion, unlike most of the rest of them. I’d like to see her as an MP and I’d like to see more MPs, regardless of their politics, like her. MPs we can believe when words come out of their mouths. UK politics is a shitefest at the minute - a great heap of jumped up Napoleons.

Iggi999 · 24/11/2019 22:17

Has anyone saying "single issue party" ever watched broadcasts from the Scottish parliament? I am guessing not.

They are making a mess of what is in there remit to be honest b cause they keep focusing on smaw issue.

On to Westminster their leader is terrible keeps repeating as old story.

Willyoujustbequiet · 25/11/2019 00:42

Her figures dont add up and she's clearly not a fan of democracy. What could possibly go wrong. I'll pass thanks.
