Very impressed with her clear headed answers. Envy Scottish people for having someone so good fighting in their corner.

YABU As others have said she is a one trick pony.

Mishfit0819 · 22/11/2019 20:50

To all those saying she's a one trick pony and only caring about independence... I guess you pay for your prescriptions when the rest of Scotland get them for free, or still pay bedroom tax when she put measures in place to stop it impacting here? Do you pay for your degree education like rouk? I could go on and on but people unfortunately tend to judge her on her appearance rather than track record Angry

Scotland isn't perfect but there's a hell of a lot of better off with her in charge. Even if you don't agree with her politics, at least she's clear and upfront about what she stands for and her voting record demonstrates this, you can't say the same for any of the other party leaders at the moment.

MaxNormal · 22/11/2019 20:55

@Mishfit0819 well said, some of the comments about her are just vile.
Having experienced both the English and Scottish NHS recently I am so grateful I am under care of the Scottish one.

PickUpThePieces · 22/11/2019 21:01

I beg to differ, I’m happy to pay for my prescriptions and to support my DC through university because I would rather the people that really need support, get it.

I have a very different experience of the NHS.
My DF died in Scotland in horrible conditions nursed by beleaguered staff who were vociferous in their dissatisfaction with the Scottish NHS which Is in contrast to my experience south of the border.
Anecdotal, I know but my experience.

JustAsWell · 22/11/2019 21:07

She was respectful to the audience and answered directly and thoroughly. No political game-playing language. Personal comments on her appearance are really quite tedious.

Alaimo · 22/11/2019 21:08

I am an occasional SNP voter & occasionally vote for other parties. I think the SNP as a party has been weak in some policy areas, but I do think Sturgeon has been a good leader. If you look at UKIP & how it's completely disintegrated after the Brexit referendum & garage leaving the party, and compare it with the SNP post-referendum/Salmond, then I think it's quite impressive how Sturgeon has managed to take on her role as leader and hold the party together, while largely keeping the more extreme independence supporters in check.

I really like some of Labour's policies, but I wish they'd had someone like Sturgeon to clearly communicate/sell them to the general public.

zsazsajuju · 22/11/2019 21:14

@Dreamersandwishers you must not live in Scotland then as she’s extremely popular there.

bookishtartlet · 22/11/2019 21:16

I'm assuming all those who think the SNP only focus on independence do not take advantage of the free prescriptions, free university education, free baby boxes, lack of bedroom tax, the best performing A&E services, lowest wait time for GP apps, huge investment in closing the gap in education and the rest?

Put aside independence and focus on the very real shit kicking off at the moment.

Nicola does not speak for all of Scotland, but the Tories were not even voted in a majority up here. I am fucking horrified at the current government, and more so at the absolute cunts that keep voting for them.

FOJeremy · 22/11/2019 21:18

She’s ruined scotland

FOJeremy · 22/11/2019 21:20

bookishtartlet

I’m horrified at ‘the absolute cunts’ that vote Labour and could give us a far left Momentum party tbh

2Rebecca · 22/11/2019 21:22

Our roads are full of pot holes. Like England there aren't enough GPs and hospital waiting lists are huge and there arent enough inpatient beds. She replaced a school exam system that worked with one that doesn't. Scottish independence would be a disaster. She gets an easy ride on BBC interviews because the interviewers don't know enough about Scotland to challenge her.

Merename · 22/11/2019 21:25

She’s very popular where I live too. I also agree insulting comments on appearance are pretty revealing of the shite people will base opinions on. I have compassion for the rest of the uk so I will vote for Jez on this occasion but will absolutely vote SNP in Holyrood elections and yes in the next independence referendum.

Would love to hear what is it she has done to ruin Scotland?

zsazsajuju · 22/11/2019 21:27

Objectively too, the NHS in Scotland is outperforming the rest of the Uk too. Doesn’t account for every persons experience though but it’s a bit strange that every time anyone mentions Nicola Sturgeon, there’s a whole load of nonsense about how she is destroying the NHS, education, etc despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

zsazsajuju · 22/11/2019 21:28

@FOJeremy - ruined how?

midnightmisssuki · 22/11/2019 21:30

She is crazy! Are you crazy?’ Yabvu.

underneaththeash · 22/11/2019 21:32

She’d be slightly better than JC, but then so would Gordon the gopher.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 22/11/2019 21:32

Do you think she’s making a good job of governing Scotland at the moment? No way.

mrsbrightside1308 · 22/11/2019 21:32

I'm scottish, never have and never will vote snp.

StatisticallyChallenged · 22/11/2019 21:33

I was a staunch no voter (some of the scots might remember me from the indyref threads) and I generally think the SNP are a bunch of fannies Grin who are very good at convincing people things are better than they are

That said, compared to the others tonight she comes across very well. She delivers her message clearly, she generally answers questions well, and she overall came across as at least being on this planet.

Politics right now is a total clusterfuck

Nearly47 · 22/11/2019 21:37

I'd be happy to pay my kids tuition fees and prescriptions if the people that were in need getting help. But they aren't. Instead we are getting worse and worse. Universal credit, rising pension age all because people are terrified that a bit bigger state would mean " socialism". It's shocking how the working people of this country accept that increasing workers rights is a bad thing. I don't understand how anyone with a salary less than 50 K would ever vote for the Tories. Actually why anyone in employment would vote for them at all. At the rate we are going we will never retire, won't be able to pay for medicines and will have the NHS further privatised. I had a surgery a month ago and when I received the letter to book my procedure there was one NHS hospital option and two private. I don't want Scotland to leave the Union but looking at how they've been votting in the past I understand why.

OP posts:
dementedma · 22/11/2019 21:37

YABU. She cares only about independence at any cost. And that cost will be high for Scottish taxpayers.

fluffygreenmonsterhoody · 22/11/2019 21:38

She doesn’t just care about independence or she and the SNP wouldn’t consistently have been voted into government over the past ten years.

Unless you think that’s all us Scots care about? Which isn’t very clever thinking given the independence referendum results from 2014.

It’s a predictable soundbite from the other parties and lazy journalism and thinking in spreading it.

Merename · 22/11/2019 21:49

She isn’t nearly as socialist as I’d like, actually. But I think a majority of Scottish people think like you, OP, willing to pay to look after vulnerable people and interested in a fairer society. Of course there are pockets of (wealthier) areas that lean more to the right but it’s good to live in a place where that’s less of a worry. Just come and live with us! The SNP have posters all over the place telling EU citizens in Scotland ‘we value you, we want you here’, I’m proud of that.

TheMidasTouch · 22/11/2019 21:49

I would like to know whether Nicola Sturgeon associated with Alex Salmond after he was arrested or charged with attempted rape and sexual assaults on women.

Shenanagins · 22/11/2019 21:49

Take her and then everyone can join us in the race to the bottom educationally.

And as for baby boxes, what a waste of money. The money should have been targeted to those most in need as everyone I know who have received one thought it was utterly pointless.
