Very impressed with her clear headed answers. Envy Scottish people for having someone so good fighting in their corner.

I think she's kind and a good leader

😂😂😂😂😂

Champagnetaste · 23/11/2019 00:13

Can I just ask everyone here moaning about the rest of the UK paying for the tuition fee/prescription cost for those in Scotland do some research.

Yes these things are ‘free’ in Scotland, however they come from the fund that the UK government assign to Scotland. Remember for the mass of Scotland there are a lot less people.

Also for those who believe they support Scotland with their taxes please educate yourself with the Barrett formula. We are scrounging from the rest of the UK. If you look at the Barrett formula, you will see that over the course of the last 50 years we have all supported each other as a union.

Please remember that the biggest part of the no campaign for Scottish independence was surrounding staying in the EU. Can I please ask everyone to educate themselves before 12th December and vote accordingly. Scottish, English, Irish or Welsh

JoyceJeffries · 23/11/2019 00:16

I’ve educated myself and I won’t be voting for the SNP.

Champagnetaste · 23/11/2019 00:20

JoyceJeffries, good for you. No where in my post did I suggest you vote snp! However glad you will be voting

2Rebecca · 23/11/2019 00:23

My desire to remain in the UK had nothing to do with the EU. I'm not that bothered either way about the EU but very keen to stay part of the UK

TurOlive · 23/11/2019 00:27

@tillytrotter1

The Scottish mafia? 🤨

hadenough · 23/11/2019 00:32

The mumsnet 'we hate Scotland' brigade are out tonight. As per usual.

JoyceJeffries · 23/11/2019 00:33

SNP does not equal Scotland. 🤦‍♀️

MutedUser · 23/11/2019 00:50

You can have her she doesn’t speak for all of Scotland either

Mistressiggi · 23/11/2019 00:55

Not really how politics works, is it? Name me one politician who "spoke for all" of their constituency never mind their country Confused

Nearly47 · 23/11/2019 00:59

She does represent the majority ....

She stuck by Alex Salmond didn't she?

No thanks.

Fraggling · 23/11/2019 01:12

I used to like her a lot but that plus couple other things, it's a no.

She's not worse than Boris Jeremy etc mind.

Butterisbest · 23/11/2019 01:12

@Iggi999
It's not racism, it's bigotry. You're right with the sexism though. Scotland doesn't have a race.

Champagnetaste · 23/11/2019 01:21

Fraggling, sorry can I ask how she has stuck by Alex Salmond, I may have missed something but the last I heard she was assisting for the police enquires and hadn’t made an official statement. Obvi stand corrected if I have missed something whereas she has came out in support of him

Bluerussian · 23/11/2019 01:23

I'm a Nicola Sturgeon fan too, dunno about her PM here though, she is leader of the SNP after all. However - we could do with someone like her.

Jo Swinson isn't bad at all.

Becuna · 23/11/2019 01:26

She seems a one trick pony - independence. Also she stood with sleazy Alex Salmond and that rings alarm bells for me.

ThanksMateThanksMate · 23/11/2019 01:56

I'm devastated and really fucking angry about the Alex Salmond allegations. True or otherwise, it stinks.
To say that Nicola is standing by him is a misrepresentation. She is adhering to procedure. I bloody supported him in politics because I had faith in his integrity, if it turns out he is guilty, I will be the first to condemn him. I'm sure his former colleagues will do likewise. When we invest faith, we do just that. I'm not so self righteous that I wouldn't admit my faith was mis-directed.

For now, it appears our First Minister is as focussed and driven as any politician.
On an instinctive and personal level, she appears honest and in-touch.
I'm not particularly SNP.
I just think we're very different nations in the U.K. and need our own governance.

MrsNoMopp · 23/11/2019 01:58

YABU. Scotland's population is around 5.5 million, which is only a small percentage of the UK as a whole. Sturgeon is on TV all the time but doesn't speak of any positive ideas, she just looks annoyed instead. The SNP is anti-England and that's why they're currently in favour with the EU.

Seeingadistance · 23/11/2019 02:11

She’s very popular in the town I am from and other towns I have lived in in Scotland. I always find mumsnet fascinating when discussing Nicola Sturgeon and the SNP - it just seems so different from my experience and the opinions of people in the places I have lived.

I strongly suspect that the reason Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP and independence seem unusually unpopular on MN compared to off-line is that any criticism or doubt expressed off-line is met with personal attack, abuse and constant attempts to persuade the speaker that they are wrong. I voted No to independence and since before the Referendum I have largely kept my views to myself because expressing them has been met with antagonism and unpleasantness.

Those who are pro independence are very vocal, those who are anti tend to be much less so.

I actually was talking about this today - the fact that every so often on MN someone will express admiration for the SNP and say how lucky we in Scotland are to have the option of independence. It has struck me that the posters who start these threads often are not in Scotland, and/or have not experienced the years of division that Scotland has been experiencing for years now as a result of the Independence Referendum.

The idea of another bloody Referendum fills me with horror and despair, tbh.

Hefzi · 23/11/2019 02:44

And the same posters who fawn over Scottish nationalism are vocal against even the idea of English national feeling, Seeing- it's very classic MN

I understand Scottish support for independence - who doesn't want to be ruled by their own people? Scots were integral to "building" the British empire, and if it taught us nothing else, it taught us that.

I find, though, it's intellectually an inconsistent position when coupled with a desire to remain in the EU. But as a lifelong anti-imperialist, I would think that.

Haa Scotland not sunk in OECD educational league tables, though, since the SNP have run things? I mean, frankly, the UK's poor showing is bad enough but headlines like this www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-scotland-politics-38207729 don't make it sound the educational utopia some on here are suggesting.

sniffsneeze · 23/11/2019 03:15

I'll be voting for SNP and hopefully, Independence at some point soon. So no you can't have her OP - sorry. But I do sympathise

Mishfit0819 · 23/11/2019 04:17

@MrsNoMopp what makes you think the SNP are anti-england??

maddiemookins16mum · 23/11/2019 05:22

Go no. She’s more annoying than Lulu even.
