There seems to be a general view that if the Conservatives win less than 315 seats we will be back in deadlock, but that the pressure from the other parties will be such that they'll have little choice but to call another referendum.

Oliversmumsarmy · 27/11/2019 13:59

And what happens if that referendum says we should Remain and the Leavers don’t like it.

It would make a mockery of democracy.

Will we have best of 3

Trewser · 27/11/2019 14:04

Another referendum would be overwhelmingly Leave, because JC is going to get such an amazing deal.

EntropyRising · 27/11/2019 15:00

And what happens if that referendum says we should Remain and the Leavers don’t like it.

After all, it seems that leave has to win twice in order to actually win.

Alsohuman · 27/11/2019 22:19

Presumably lessons would be learnt from the first one. Like a 55% majority or a certain number of votes needed to win, a straight forward, truthful campaign and no manipulation of social media.

We all need to accept that the electorate is a different one, there have been a lot of 18th birthdays and funerals since 2016.

Oliversmumsarmy · 27/11/2019 22:27

So just wait for people to die so you can get the result you want.

Says it all.

What if the 18 year olds vote to leave.

I know a few who would vote leave like their parents and family it isn’t a given that all 18 year olds are Remainers like it isn’t a given that all 18 year olds are Labour supporters.

Alsohuman · 27/11/2019 22:29

That isn’t what I said, the interpretation is all yours.

It’s not really that though, it’s that society does change over time and at a relatively slow pace. People a hundred years ago could have logically seen everyone having equal rights would be a good idea but it took decades for it to happen. Seeing sense over things like Brexit will also occur as the years pass by and less enlightened people pass on.

No referendum, including the 2016 referendum, should be enacted until there is a significant proportion of people voting that way, otherwise you end up like now, it is so close to 50/50, to enact such a life changing decision should require a much more positive margin, even if that means retesting until the margin is attained either way. Same for Scotlands indyref imo
