If so, where will you be going?

@SinkGirl, all she said was that the prospects of uninsured Americans didn't apply to her because she's.... insured.

If you find this disgusting, maybe you should go lie down.

gwenneh · 24/11/2019 16:32

It's impossible to explain empathy to people who simply don't feel it.

We left due to the Brexit shitshow and are substantially better off, both professionally and personally -- but I still had to help crowdfund a friend's mental health treatment this week because she lost her job and an insurance payment for continued coverage that is equivalent to twice her rent was beyond her.

EntropyRising · 24/11/2019 16:35

So are the people who don't support Corbyn now being held to account for the US health care system, then?

Two top energy firms say they have moved ownership of their UK operations overseas to protect themselves from Labour's nationalisation plans.

In recent months, National Grid has opened offshore holding companies in Hong Kong and Luxembourg, while SSE has incorporated in Switzerland.

Lol!

YouTheCat · 24/11/2019 16:40

The national grid in the US is state owned, I believe.

I wish I could flee the country if the Tories get in. If Labour win, I'll be very happy.

gwenneh · 24/11/2019 16:44

So are the people who don't support Corbyn now being held to account for the US health care system, then?

No, it's those who think an "I'm alright, too bad so sad if you aren't." attitude is an acceptable way to behave.

The U.S. healthcare system is simply a convenient working example of how disgusting that attitude, and lack of empathy, really is.

Trewser · 24/11/2019 16:47

I don't really mind who gets in. If Labour get in it will be for one term only then they won't be back for years and years.

Alsohuman · 24/11/2019 16:51

I don't really mind who gets in

So why do you make regular appearances here complaining that Labour will ruin the country, threatens private school provision and generally spouting the Tory party line? If you don’t mind, how will you vote? I don’t mind isn’t on any ballot paper.

ImGoingToBangYourHeadsTogether · 24/11/2019 16:55

That you want us to read a book by a mostly unreconstructed Marxist does kind of lend credence to the theory that there are a lot of Momentum types on the this thread.

There's nothing wrong with Marx's social observations, or of Dickens' social observations. They accurately portray what happened to people and society when we last let extremes of private property ownership take over, and where we will go if we let that happen again.

It's a question of balance. We've lost balance - we're tipping further and further down that route of individualism and private property. We know that there is more owned now by fewer people than just a few years ago. We're starting to see the social costs already for the rest of us. We cannot afford to go further down this route, and that's all the Tories offer.

I have to admit I would be happier with a slower approach to rebalancing myself, but we do need it.

On big companies creating wealth: a French former minister for the digital economy just brought out a report saying that for every job Amazon creates, it destroys two in small local businesses. Trewser · 24/11/2019 16:58

Labour does threaten private school provision with the 20% on fees but I see the ridiculous idea of bringing them into the state system has been kicked into the long grass. They can't do the 20 on fees while we are in the EU, and if they get in we will be in the EU for another year, by which time, it wont affect me as much.

I was planning to vote lib dem, but tbh we are in such a safe tory seat it doesnt really matter what i vote.

Trewser · 24/11/2019 17:00

why do you make regular appearances here because its a public internet forum Confused

Also the aggressive hypocrisy from the left on here and increasingly on my Facebook feed makes me determined never to vote Labour in its current form.

leckford · 24/11/2019 17:05

It will be fun watching all the comrades stabbing each other in the back when they lose!

Alsohuman · 24/11/2019 17:06

Don’t selectively quote. This is what I asked you.

So why do you make regular appearances here complaining that Labour will ruin the country, threatens private school provision and generally spouting the Tory party line? If you don’t mind, how will you vote? I don’t mind isn’t on any ballot paper.

Trewser · 24/11/2019 17:08

Well, I really don't have to answer anything that you demand alsohuman particularly when you demand in that very impolite way. I know that's hard for you to accept.

Alsohuman · 24/11/2019 17:12

If you post idiocy, expect to be challenged @Trewser. It’s called debate. I haven’t been impolite. I haven’t called you names. I haven’t sworn at you. I’ve been perfectly polite.

Trewser · 24/11/2019 17:15

Where's the debate?

Trewser · 24/11/2019 17:17

It's just you demanding to know what I am going to vote? Which I answered actually.

ALongHardWinter · 24/11/2019 17:18

Like it's that easy!

Xenia · 24/11/2019 17:25

Conservatives and Labour pboth support the NHS. If Labour tries to suggest us Tories do not then that is untrue. Let us see what the voters decide in December.

Random18 · 24/11/2019 17:50

Xenia I would say the last 9 years tell their own story...........

Trewser · 24/11/2019 17:52

If Labour do manage to get in, it will be interesting to see how they balance the demands of Brexit with all their plans.

Alsohuman · 24/11/2019 17:54

If a former Tory PM says the NHS isn’t safe with his own party, I’d be more inclined to believe him than you @Xenia. Especially since you also think the Tories are a better bet for the lower paid and those who need benefits.

Alsohuman · 24/11/2019 17:56

If Labour do manage to get in, it will be interesting to see how they balance the demands of Brexit with all their plans

They probably wouldn’t have to. They’ve promised another referendum, recent polls indicate more remainers than leavers now.

CendrillonSings · 24/11/2019 18:03

If a former Tory PM says the NHS isn’t safe with his own party, I’d be more inclined to believe him

So when the former Labour PM Tony Blair - the only Labour leader to win a majority in 45 years - calls Corbyn an extreme socialist who would be a danger to the country, I presume you believe him? Grin
