To hate Hermes

Anyone else having issues with this shambles of a company?

I had an item from foot asylum due to be delivered yesterday. First email received from Hermes at 10.20am confirming they have the item and it will be delivered between 2 and 4pm. Another email came at 11.20am saying that the item had been successfully delivered to me at my address and they supposedly have my signature which is just a bloody scribble and definitely is not my signature.

I was at home all day and delivery was not attempted.

It is impossible to speak to anyone at hermes so I spoke to foot asylum and I now have to wait for a dispute form to be sent to me that I then have to complete and wait for them to claim against Hermes.

So pissed off

They've let me down today, was supposed to have a parcel delivered and it just never turned up. No notification, only when I went to track it did it inform me it was delayed (with no reason). However, our local hermes guy is so lovely, such a nice guy who works so hard so I can only assume there's a good reason. But YANBU. I also hate Yodel with a passion Smile

BenevolentEzza · 16/11/2019 22:13

My Hermes courier is utterly fabulous 😊 She is 100% reliable and goes above and beyond every time. We get A Lot of deliveries, I rest easy when I know it's Hermes delivering (not so much Yodel...🙄😬)

Passmethecrisps · 16/11/2019 22:21

You are certainly not being unreasonable.

I ordered from amazon recently and Hermes was the carrier. I was sitting at my dining table looking out at the street when the attempted delivery email came in. It’s infuriating trying to deal with them. You call Hermes but you need a code from the card - obviously no card had been left so I couldn’t deal with them at all.

Amazon were fine about it but it cost me several days on an order. Days later we did have the delivery and the lovely lady apologised and said that one of their local team was ill and they were all trying to work it out together.

On a human level of course I have immense sympathy. It is stuff and no more than annoying when it’s late - the working conditions of their drivers must be appalling though for them to need to fake deliveries rather than be able to actually work with the company of unable to deliver

mummyflood · 16/11/2019 22:33

Bloody awful.

A few months ago, a reasonably expensive parcel was thrown over my neighbours fence. They put a card through the door saying ''delivered round back''. There is no access whatsoever to our back way, neighbours said there was no sign of it. The seller provided a photo from the tracking info, showing next doors gate, and the parcel in the tenfoot. Turns out it had been thrown over her fence, and she didnt find it for 4 days, by which point it was soaking wet, and the packaging had disintegrated. The tracking info also said ''delivered to your safe place''!!! I have never nominated a safe place, and definitely not anyones back garden.

This week, the courier sent an email 1hr into the 2hr timeslot for delivery - this happens frequently - consequently I was not in as the seller had told me it would be another 6 days. Got another very late email the following day, but was in this time. However an hour later, got a second email to say the delivery had been delayed by 2/3 hours, even though by now it had been received and signed for. Then a third one to say it had been delivered at 3.45 pm....actually received it and signed for it at 11.50 am.

Total joke, I will now be going out of my way not to order anything from anyone who is likely to use Hermes, I will be looking for the click and collect option wherever possible.

MereDintofPandiculation · 16/11/2019 23:03

Is it usual procedure to have to complete a claim form and wait an age for a replacement or refund? No. Normal procedure is for supplier to issue a replacement, to keep customer happy, and then try to recoup their costs from delivery company.

WagtailRobin · 16/11/2019 23:26

A few years back at my old house I had terrible issues with this company, no delivery was ever completed without some sort of incident and their mistakes were just relentless.

However, I now thankfully have been lucky in the last year to have a new Hermes delivery man and we have each other's mobile numbers, if I am not going to be in I text and rearrange or if he is delayed etc for whatever reason he phones to inform me. Touch wood it continues this way but yes I can fully understand your frustration from my previous bad experiences.

Maxfactoid · 16/11/2019 23:27

Try the number below....then give them hell. Delivery drivers are a serious cluster of lazy stupid sh1tbag morons.
03445437365

Maxfactoid · 16/11/2019 23:30

03445437365....this number will get you through

listsandbudgets · 16/11/2019 23:39

Funnily enough we came home to a huge parcel in our porch a couple of weeks ago that had been delivered by Hermes.

Only it wasnt addressed to us... it was to someone about 20ndoors down the road. DP took it round and she said that Hermes had told her it had been delivered and left in her porch! They'd even provided a photo of the box in OUR porch.

The house numbers weren't remotely similar and they were on different sides of the road

My heart always sinks when I discover Hermes or worse Yodel have my parcel

GP841 · 16/11/2019 23:54

Join my quest! My Hermes - what a shambles of a company!
Destroy and loose parcels and offer no customer support whatsoever!
Unable to speak to any human being!
Try emailing and speak with a ‘numpty’!
When u actually threaten them with legal proceedings they ask for the most ridiculous of details and information!
They ask me for proof of damage?? They damaged my parcel in transit then destroyed without my permission and have now disposed of it!! Absolutely outrageous - thieving scum! Customer service and focus is non existent

THE WORSE DELIVERY COMPANY IN THE WORLD EVER!!!!!!
CLOSELY FOLLOWED BY THE ROYAL MAIL!!!!!!!!

safariboot · 17/11/2019 03:22

YANBU.

But really, don't only hate Hermes. Hate the business that send stuff using Hermes. Retailers should know that Hermes (and Yodel) are widely disliked by their customers, yet the retailers keep using them because it saves them pennies.

Vote with your wallet, buy from a retailer that uses a courier you trust. Or better, buy from a bricks-and-mortar shop (though that's not always practical or cost-effective depending on what you're buying).

Justmuddlingalong · 17/11/2019 03:29

The sinking feeling of realising that the order you've just placed, is being delivered by Hermes, is overwhelming. Christmas would be altogether less stressful if Hermes were in no way involved.

plantingandpotting · 17/11/2019 07:48

YANBU.

When we order something in our house and then see it's coming via Hermes, we tend to cancel the order/ place another order with another retailer in addition. That's how sure we are that it won't arrive.

To give an example, a couple of weeks ago I waited in the house (with restless baby) for three days during which Hermes said they'd deliver. Not a peep. Morning of day 4 I get an email to say my parcel is being returned to sender as 3 delivery attempts had been made. Absolute fantasy.

DH ordered time-sensitive items on next day delivery, saw it was coming via Hermes and ended up preemptively buying a second lot from elsewhere. Wise move as the Hermes delivery arrived too late (and damaged).

The thing that gets me is the habitual lying; they obviously know it's their word against ours, and have just grown so accustomed to lying in order to meet targets and get more business.

So yeah, I don't trust this company an inch.

Boycott Hermes.

WonderWomanBra · 17/11/2019 11:10

Oh my god yess!!My hermes parcel was signed for by my neighbour but apprently delivered at my address! The driver didn't even post a card through the door telling me where my parcel had been delivered to so I had to go knocking on three neighbours doors before I found my parcel! Then, one of my neighbours knocked on my door asking for their parcel which had been delivered to my other neighbour but my door number had been noted down! This has happened so many times before so I rang the delivery driver(got her number from the neighbourw card she had posted through) and gave her a piece of my mind. She said "All the addresses look the same!! I have emailed to complain about her and have said I do not want her delivering my parcels again.I thought it was just her but judging by this post,it seems Hermes is so shit at recruiting!

MadisonAvenue · 17/11/2019 11:20

I'd avoided buying from companies who use them for a few years but one small company who I wanted to try only use Hermes so I gritted my teeth and placed the order.
I've ordered a few times since and the two Hermes couriers who deliver around here have been excellent.

The only problem I've noticed was when I returned an item via Hermes to Amazon. I dropped it into the local Co Op for collection, obtained the receipt and it was never seen again. It wasn't a huge problem for me though as it showed on Amazon's system as being collected by Hermes, reaching the depot and being in the process of being returned to them but that was where the trail ended.

Bluntness100 · 17/11/2019 11:23

Everyone hates Hermes, it's a gamble whether they chose to deliver it to you or not. With the added surprise bonus question of where they will deliver it to.

RedRedWhining · 17/11/2019 11:25

Literally the exact same thing happened to me 3 weeks ago. Email to say my (very expensive!!) item had been delivered and had a copy of a signature but I’d been in all day! Spoke to the company I ordered from who refunded me but the item has disappeared and no one seems to care that it must have been taken by the courier. Such a joke

TheHodgeoftheHedge · 17/11/2019 11:29

I try and avoid shopping with any company who uses Hermes for delivery.

NumbersStation · 17/11/2019 11:34

Another little voice going against the grain but our Hermes guy is fantastic.
He goes above and beyond Smile

viccat · 17/11/2019 11:37

My local Hermes driver never asks me to sign for anything but after a delivery "my" signature is always available online with the tracking number. I think he does it to save time - I don't mind as he's actually reliable and does deliver but obviously not sticking to the process he should be following...

As with all delivery companies, it really seems to depend on what they are like in your area. DPD for example is amazing here but I know others who have no end of problems with them.

Nanna50 · 17/11/2019 11:57

I’ve had similar yesterday 3 updated messages delaying delivery time but then a message to say it was delivered but I was at home and no delivery. It’s been delivered to a different street, I’ve been to the house twice and no answer.

I can only think it’s a new driver as my usual Hermes driver just leaves them in my porch. I do wonder whether it is because the drivers are paid so little and this is why their service is so bad.

DT29 · 17/11/2019 13:07

Would never use them directly but unfortunately many of the retailers do. Recently we have been advised on 2 occasions that the parcel has been returned to retailers as we refused delivery. This was totally untrue, why would we? This week we have had another one returned to the retailer as they have supposedly tried to deliver 3 times. Also untrue. When you speak to the retailer to arrange redelivery or refund they admit that this is a common problem with Hermes. As mentioned before trying to contact Hermes is a farce. How they stay in business is a wonder to me.

Thenumba1nanny · 17/11/2019 13:38

Maxfactoid. Hermes drivers are not morons they are overworked underpaid and unappreciated by the majority of morons that order online. Have you thought about delivering around 200+ parcels per day in the pouring rain, ice, snow freezing cold.all for 45p per parcel that is delivered. If you are not in and have to go back waste of their fuel. Order next day delivery but the customer not in. They have to try 3 times then sent back to seller. So 3 attempts their fuel no delivery no money earned. Perhaps you should try it for a day before you criticise. Yodel threw a crate of wine over side gate said it was wine answer was it didn't say fragile. Perhaps if when delivery is made the courier was actually spoken to and not treated like something you had trodden in it might help after all they are human beings
