I honestly don't understand why anyone who cares about anyone other than themselves would vote Tory.

There is no good choice in this election. You may as well be choosing between getting shot, stabbed, or jumping on a land mine.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/11/2019 15:40

I have no one to vote for and don't know what to do.

Natural Labour Voter, and I think still a member, but completely disillusioned with the party and don't want to vote for an Anti-Semite

Could never vote Tory would not be in the interest of anyone I know, and would feel like a traitor

Other Mumsnetters have highlighted the almost embarrassing inefficacy of Lib Dems and Greens

I don't want to abstain or waste my vote. Lost.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/11/2019 15:41

Quite @hisdoeherbuck

hammeringinmyhead · 15/11/2019 15:44

Oh and my personal belief, despite deep hatred of our current government, is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with voting for your own needs and priorities.

Absolutely agree with this. I don't vote Tory but many of their policies benefit me and mine. It is possible to care about other people yet still have no faith that the current incarnation of Labour won't make an even bigger mess on top of mess.

Paddington68 · 15/11/2019 15:44

I'll shake my head and walk away.

BlackCatSleeping · 15/11/2019 15:48

Well, the Daily Mail want is to vote Conservative. So, that seems a pretty good reason not to. But, I’ve lived abroad too long, so unfortunately I’m not eligible to vote.

NKFell · 15/11/2019 15:49

Conservatives are falling apart and Labour have gone so far left that they're becoming right.

Labour will bankrupt the country, like they always have done and Conservatives will look after the rich, like they always have done.

The Lib Dems are too wishy washy and the Greens are bonkers.

Politics is shite.

Inebriati · 15/11/2019 15:50

I dont know how any woman can support any of the current political parties.
The tories are terrible with austerity and the NHS, and all of them want to remove women's rights.

Whats happening today should scare you. The College of Policing have decided that the equality laws that outline and protect women's rights constitutes a hate crime against trans people, and they intend to argue this in court.
There isn't a single political party that opposes this.

havingtochangeusernameagain · 15/11/2019 15:50

Completely agree OP.

Except I'm not sure who can possibly benefit from a no deal Brexit at the end of next year except the super-rich. Most MNers are not super-rich, so why would they vote Tory?

havingtochangeusernameagain · 15/11/2019 15:52

Sorry that last bit was a response to the OP who said why wouldn't' you vote for the party whose policies will benefit you and yours. Because they won't? Unless you are JRM's sister?

havingtochangeusernameagain · 15/11/2019 15:52

previous poster not original poster!

I think I need a sleep....

InfiniteSheldon · 15/11/2019 15:53

I don't understand how any sane person can lower themselves to vote Labour but respect their right to do so. For me Tory is best of a bad bunch.

LinnetBird · 15/11/2019 15:54

I don't understand anyone with a brain cell voting conservative, maybe they're all devoid Grin

PissedOffProf · 15/11/2019 15:55

Oh and my personal belief, despite deep hatred of our current government, is that there is absolutely nothing wrong with voting for your own needs and priorities.

Thinking of your own interests only is rather selfish, narrow and base logic. I would imagine that a civilized society consists of people who care not only for themselves and their immediate family, but also for others. I cannot fathom how rich people can vote for their taxes to be lowered when they know that this will mean more poor people will starve and die of treatable medical problems. People are actually STARVING in this country. One of the richest countries in the world! Dear Tory voters, this Dickensian destitution is of your making.

Iggly · 15/11/2019 15:55

The Tories don’t have a basic understanding of economics. Partly if they apply nonsense analogies such as “running a country’s budget is like running a household budget”, as if shopping for groceries is the same as stimulating an economy ffs.

I’ve looked into the Tory economic record and it really isn’t substantially different to Labour’s.

So the only reason to vote Tory is for selfish reasons.

SilverySurfer · 15/11/2019 16:04

Well done OP, a totally unique subject Hmm no doubt brought to us and paid for by the Labour Party. Why don't we have a [boring] or [snoring] emote on here?

Monkeynuts18 · 15/11/2019 16:05

Up until now I’ve been a Tory voter. But I’m with you, I really struggle to understand how anyone can vote for the current incarnation of the Conservative party.

I also can’t see how anyone can say voting Conservative is best for them and their family. Unless you run a hedge fund, Brexit will be a disaster for you - particularly if you own a home with a mortgage.

If you do run a hedge fund, like JRM, then I totally get it!

Beveren · 15/11/2019 16:06

I have elderly parents and kids and vote Tory.

Really? Wait till one or both is hospitalised with something non-urgent and see for yourself how inadequate the provision is. My DM went into what was supposedly a rehabilitation ward fully continent and able to walk. It was grossly understaffed and the lovely, incredibly hard-working staff simply didn't have time to encourage her to walk or to get to her quickly enough to get her to the loo, her muscles and bladder control effectively atrophied and she left wheelchair bound and dependent on a catheter.

And that is what the Conservative government has brought the NHS down to.

angemorange · 15/11/2019 16:06

Not sure if anyone feels the same but I resent being asked to vote every two years - asking the public over and over again to tell you how to do your job just pisses me off.

Sallycinammonbangsthedruminthe · 15/11/2019 16:06

I vote tory always have ..I don;t need anyone to understand why.

Beveren · 15/11/2019 16:08

I see your Guardian and raise you The Sun, The Express, The Daily Mail.

If ever there was a cast-iron case for voting anything but Conservative, the fact that the Sun, Express and Mail rabidly support them is it.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 15/11/2019 16:08

There is no good choice in this election. You may as well be choosing between getting shot, stabbed, or jumping on a land mine

I agree; in many ways it's not so much voting for who we prefer as who's considered least awful

What a god-awful situation to be in Hmm

JusticeForSandra · 15/11/2019 16:10

If Labour or other get elected, this country is doomed.

I can't understand why anyone who cares about everybody would not vote for the Tories, the least bad of the bunch.

And I am a firm remainer, but still.

Babybel90 · 15/11/2019 16:11

I don’t want to vote Tory but I cannot and will not vote for a party with Jeremy Corbyn as leader, I feel that he would make more of a mess of the country than Boris, and I don’t like Boris at all. I feel like I’ve not got much choice and it’s the best of a bad lot at this election I’m afraid.

VanyaHargreeves · 15/11/2019 16:13

The problem began with the Ref @angemorange the GBP should never have been asked a question that elected representatives already existed to answer and were far more qualified to answer - we've been in chaos since.
