Yesterday I took delivery of a new handheld cordless mini vacuum and I couldn’t wait for it to charge up so I could go and Hoover my skirting boards without having to drag the massive big Dyson around the house! I was so excited I was going round the house last night looking for things to Hoover up! My husband called me sad but I was so happy!

I also love buying anything new for the kitchen. I bough a multi bladed herb cutter the other day and oh it gave me such pleasure to use it on some parsley for dinner!

When I was at uni I used to love buying matching stationary which some people might think is a bit sad.

I am a married 33-year-old mother of one and this is my life now Grin

What are your nerdy/sad/uncool things in life that bring you excitement/joy?

dayslikethese1 · 07/11/2019 17:51

I love notebooks and my dustbuster.

I have also loved researching and planning and making lists of things. I like going to libraries/museums/archives.

Also I'm smiling at thecats post; my job involves some GDPR stuff too and I'm often correcting people on stuff both online and IRL, just can't help it.

dayslikethese1 · 07/11/2019 17:51

*always loved

Insertdeadcatsnamehere · 07/11/2019 17:52

Maps. Specifically studying maps of places I've just got back from. Love a good wander then an evening at home looking at where I've been. Also enjoy using up leftovers / random stuff left in the food cupboard, there's nothing more satisfying than being able to chuck an empty packet of something out. See also: using up the last bit of soap. I'm a laugh a minute.

dayslikethese1 · 07/11/2019 17:52

Did anyone have those I Spy books in the car years ago? You had to tick off things you saw like pub signs etc. I think they appealed to my cataloguing/listing tendencies.

dayslikethese1 · 07/11/2019 17:54

insert i love throwing empty packets out too, so satisfying. I can usually find a use for the dregs of most things.

Doje · 07/11/2019 17:55

When I've been puzzling over a really long & complicated Excel formula, and it finally comes good. Aaaah, it makes my heart smile!

Georgenord · 07/11/2019 17:55

@timeforawine sure! It’s actually quite complex and takes a while to figure everything out. The basics are: you have two currencies, dollars and diamonds. Garments are bought with both, some are diamonds and some are dollars. You get 100 diamonds every day and you earn dollars from entering challenges. The daily challenge has no specific requirements so you can use anything you already own, the other challenges will have requirements so you may need to use your covet cash or diamonds to buy the garments you need. If you get over a 4 star rating for your look you win a garment prize. Every garment you own adds to your closet value and every time you hit a certain amount of value you go up a level and you get more hair and makeup styles to use. If you score over 4.5 stars you get some diamonds and if you score over 5 you get an additional garment prize. If you get a perfect score of 5.8 you win Top Look and win 5000 diamonds. You will be assigned a fashion house where you can participate in Runway Rallies (a series of challenges) and that’s when you win big prizes of garments, which will add to your closet value and help you level up, Covet cash and diamonds which will enable you to buy more garments. You have to judge other people’s looks to get tickets to enter the challenges. That’s basically it but as you play you’ll figure it out. If you have any questions pm me and I recommend you join Covetfashionfriends on Facebook and google a couple of articles and how-tos. It’s an amazing game! Smile

There archers I listen to it on my very early dog walk, I bloody love it.

Dowser · 07/11/2019 17:58

Compressing things down into the smallest space
Shampoo ... two half lots into one bottle
That kind of thing
Drives dh bonkers ... do I obviously have to do it all the more
I love making my own gluten free muesli... lots of scope for all those annoying half full packets of nuts, dried fruit... I have a tub that must hold about 4 -5 lbs of it. And if I can squeeze the last of a packet in... jackpot 😂

ChocOrCheese · 07/11/2019 18:02

I have just had to buy a new dishwasher. It has got the tea stains out of all my mugs. No more bleaching them. I LOVE IT TO BITS.

highheelsandweathercocks · 07/11/2019 18:02

The flightradar app. I love seeing the planes above me and seeing their route. This was especially fun when we were at Legoland at the weekend as you're right next to Heathrow so they go roaring overhead at about 4000 feet. You can see them queuing to land. I was keeping myself the DC entertained in the queues telling them which one was coming in next. DH thinks I'm a complete nerd over it. Zoom out and you can see the Project Loon balloons in the stratosphere. That had me most down a Wikipedia wormhole for a while.

Flat pack. I rarely need instructions now. I know exactly which screw goes in which hole just by looking at the sizes.

Organising storage. We have a 4x4 Kallax in the playroom. Each box has a specific hole to go in and contains specific toys. Eg Fireman Sam toys are in the bottom right, Playmobil police station is one row up, middle left.

Dowser · 07/11/2019 18:05

I also love my crystals
I have a decent sized collection
Trouble is I buy my faves over and over again
I got a fabulous hunk of orange calcite from mr woods fossil shop in Edinburgh... £28
It’s easily worth double
Love hunks of quartz, rose quartz, Smokey quartz and amethyst and ruby in fuschsite
I even have an altar
Can not justify the price of a cathedral but I have a space for it if I ever take the plunge

I feel the need to buy something on a very regular basis

slavetolife · 07/11/2019 18:07

Vintage sewing machines. And saddles. I have encyclopedic knowledge of both, incredibly boring to every other human that I know!!!

Dowser · 07/11/2019 18:08

Oh and I so regret taking my aunts hand embroidered linen table cloths to the charity shop
I could’ve been quite a collector of those

WalkAwaySugarbear · 07/11/2019 18:09

My bank rec. As an accounts nerd I love a spreadsheet but my banking is now so complicated I have multiple sheets, charts and formulae to track our spending, mortgage repayments and net worth. I love seeing our cash balance go up and seeing that I've beaten the budgets this month. I also increase the DCs pocket money annually in line with RPI. Blush

lotusbell · 07/11/2019 18:14

@SapphireSeptember, if you haven't already, have a look for The Secret Lives of Colour by Kassia St Clair. She also has a rather lovely Instagram account.

jenthelibrarian · 07/11/2019 18:17

Finding something to catalogue that isn't already available in some OPAC.
I love a bit of good old descriptive cataloguing.

TowerRingInferno · 07/11/2019 18:18

I’m a bellringers. That’s as uncool as it gets!

onetimeonlyy · 07/11/2019 18:19

Castles

timeforawine · 07/11/2019 18:23

Thank you @Georgenord that's really helpful Smile so I don't pay any in app purchases etc?

NoHummus · 07/11/2019 18:24

I've recently got really into following penpaling, snail mail and mail art accounts on Instagram. I was already a stationery geek but now I've started collecting stamps. They're like tiny, affordable pieces of art! My goal now is to get some foreign penpals so I can get cool, arty stamps from all over the world!
