Yesterday I took delivery of a new handheld cordless mini vacuum and I couldn’t wait for it to charge up so I could go and Hoover my skirting boards without having to drag the massive big Dyson around the house! I was so excited I was going round the house last night looking for things to Hoover up! My husband called me sad but I was so happy!

I also love buying anything new for the kitchen. I bough a multi bladed herb cutter the other day and oh it gave me such pleasure to use it on some parsley for dinner!

When I was at uni I used to love buying matching stationary which some people might think is a bit sad.

I am a married 33-year-old mother of one and this is my life now Grin

What are your nerdy/sad/uncool things in life that bring you excitement/joy?

I am mostly excited about our new fridge which has a water dispenser. The water is just immeasurably colder than from the tap. The kids and I are obsessed, they call it fridge water, and are the most hydrated they've ever been Grin

We’re using some little ASDA bin liners at the minute and they’re scented and have a nice snug fit over the rim of the bin 👌🏻

Process mapping

strawbebbies · 07/11/2019 15:14

Ooh I have so many Grin

  • Captain America. Mostly the mcu films but some of the comics too. Was sorting getting over this one and then they started filming the Falcon and Winter Soldier tv show and now I'm ridiculously excited again
  • Buying new wool and buttons and ribbons.
I have a stash to rival my 60yo aunts'
  • new stationary. Very little that beats the feeling of first writing in a new notebook or flipping through one that you've filled up and the papers gone that crinkly way.
  • Roman history. I love history in general but I grew up in a town with a Rome fort and bathhouse that I used to play in so that's always particularly caught my imagination
  • Buying or making kids clothes. Just something about tiny socks and t shirts and things that makes me stupidly happy.

The moon.
Seriously when I catch sight of it gleaming in the sky, I feel like I’m seeing an old friend.
I like weather and the seasons generally, not in a factual way, just how different it makes everything feel.
Ds is exactly the same, swooning over autumn mists and frosty mornings.
Dd rolls her eyes and calls me a tree hugger. And she’s right, I totally love trees too.

IfWishesWereFishes · 07/11/2019 15:17

@Ohyesiam I so get that. I have a favourite tree, it's so ancient and steadfast. I hug it whenever I pass it.

AngusThermopyle · 07/11/2019 15:20

My moon binoculars and my military style compass and a proper map 🤓

LilyJade · 07/11/2019 15:20

Ok. Vintage cat ornaments. Specifically by Goebel, Szeiler, Philip Laureston.

Unusual trinket boxes especially cloisonné.

Antique books.

Antique Victorian & Edwardian photos.

Ww1 & ww2 photos.

Books on Ww2.

I've got most of my finds from antique fairs & ebay & Amazon. Spent far too much but at least I've got things to sell if I hit hard times!!

When something just works. I got some new laundry baskets and they fold up and fit perfectly in the slot down the side of the washing machine. I got them weeks ago and it still pleases me how well they fit.

I also get strange satisfaction out of finishing a nearly empty packet of something so I can get rid of it and move on to the full packet.
Similar to amigababy’s episode deletion satisfaction. Which I also have.

Candlebarbara · 07/11/2019 15:22

I love annotating pdfs. It looks so neat.
Also love formatting word documents.

Ohyesiam · 07/11/2019 15:23

IfWishesWereFishes I wasn’t going to mention my habit of talking to trees, but I see I’m in good company! Recently I was driving round the M25 in terrible traffic. We inched along and gradually came to an open green bit, I felt such a sense of relief and forgetting I wasn’t alone murmured “ Thank you for existing” to the trees. My son was quite amused. Grin

A new bin for our kitchen- we had a large bin that I would always hurt myself getting the rubbish bag out. Even with holes in the bottom of the bin to stop it vacuuming to the sides.

New brooms for the scout hut! Actually picks up glitter!

Rubyupbeat · 07/11/2019 15:26

Collecting Lego....
Never grew out of it, no room to put the finished models though, spare room is now my sewing room (not sure if sewing is nerdy?) So need my son to move out so I can have a lego room!

WoahGreenGiant · 07/11/2019 15:29

Lists! Making lists, checking lists, crossing things off lists. I have a bullet journal which I'm obsessed with.

Languages and grammar, etymology etc.

The Cold War Hmm Rich Hall has a new programme out about The Bomb and it's fascinating (it also scares me silly, but it's a sort of compulsive interest)

🤓

Stationery, stepped gabling, maps. I am very sad.

FenellaVelour · 07/11/2019 15:34

I read court judgments on Bailii while I’m lying in bed at night Blush

Accidentally admitted to that during a recent team meeting at work and now everyone thinks I’m tragic.

Vintage silk scarves. Improving a minute amount at playing the piano. Making savings on almost any purchase or deal.

Gadgets

I'm eyeing up a robot Hoover and probably will order an Amazon Dot tonight. I don't need dot as we already have Google Homes (plural) but I want Google and Alexa to have a stand off. And I'm told they 'flirt' if they're side by side.

pooopypants · 07/11/2019 16:25

YES to the dehumidifier and the laundry baskets! I found some that have handles, like the kind you find on trolley baskets in Poundland.
