Yesterday I took delivery of a new handheld cordless mini vacuum and I couldn’t wait for it to charge up so I could go and Hoover my skirting boards without having to drag the massive big Dyson around the house! I was so excited I was going round the house last night looking for things to Hoover up! My husband called me sad but I was so happy!

I also love buying anything new for the kitchen. I bough a multi bladed herb cutter the other day and oh it gave me such pleasure to use it on some parsley for dinner!

When I was at uni I used to love buying matching stationary which some people might think is a bit sad.

I am a married 33-year-old mother of one and this is my life now Grin

What are your nerdy/sad/uncool things in life that bring you excitement/joy?

For me it's knives - I make my own and few things beat the satisfaction of taking a plain rectangle of steel and making something that is literally razor sharp. Additionally sketching them at work makes meetings go that little bit faster (and I get more space as everyone backs away). The attached show a couple of examples as modelled by Jeremy, the genuine imitation, non-standard, reference skull.

misfit I did that just this morning. I was brought up to salute a single magpie but not to say anything. I had to kind of turn salute into head scratch as someone was walking towards me but it has to be done !

Photography .

Mostly sorting through other people’s photos... My mum has a huge cardboard box of negatives and it’s thoroughly relaxing going through them. I’ve discovered hundreds of photos we didn’t know we had .

Have been asked to start on my grandmother’s next ... she has three cardboard boxes of photos and about 20 albums ... I absolutely love it - I love seeing pictures and then organising them after . Very relaxing !!

Books
Yarn
Fabric
History of English and associated languages
Maps and names of places

I'm most geeky about buildings and just adore floor plans. I love working out where things used to be and what rooms we're used for. Different windows and odd quirks. Magazines really annoy me when they don't show enough of the actual building and when you can't work out how rooms connect.

Books!

Vintage My Little Pony. Specifically G1. I loved them when I was a child and it never quite went away. My sister bought me a pristine Snowflake (my favourite pony as a child) as a graduation gift a few years back and it sparked something in me. I had to have more...

I can spend hours pouring over EBay photographs deciding if tails have been cut or whether that little mark could be Biro...

Updating my budget spreadsheet :)

Also personality theory. I did MBTI with a work coach a few years ago and I have read it so much I instantly 'type' people when I meet them. I then moved onto Socionics (the compatability of different MBTI types with each other). That's now been replaced (in my interests) with the Enneagram, a more organic view of personality as being 9 different archetypes.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers & DuggiesWoggle, I think you might be my soul sisters 🥰😂

DIy shops any thing with use less gadgets that might change my life.

emogoo · 10/11/2019 13:34

I don't know if there's a particular name for it but I love "big" animals/beings especially dinosaurs and dragons. Especially in films or video games where the player is super small in contrast to a huge dragon etc. I have a fantastic piece of art with a huge rhino and a super small person looking up at it, I believe it is meant to symbolise living with depression but I love the rhino in it Grin

HerondaleDucks · 10/11/2019 13:42

Mince pies and hot cross buns. Always make me so excited. But I'm a proper mince pie snob, so when I get the perfect ones I get a bit too happy about it!

Housework in my campervan – cleaning, tidying, prettifying … The family call it my Wendy house.

Odd because these same jobs in the house are just chores that I have to make myself do.

Could be because in the 'van I don't have my DH and DCs messing it all up five minutes later ….

CravingCheese · 11/11/2019 13:58

That reminds me of having a doll house when I was little. I spent hours preparing a garden, prettying up the house etc. The rest of my room may have been a mess (got to find a place where to acrhally out the unneeded furniture, plants, flours, people etc after all. The place usually being the floor of my room. But the dollhouse plus yard was spotless.)

Probably preferred doing that to acrhally playing... Same principle with dressing barbies etc. Which I find funny because I was an extremely messy and disorganised child... 😅😅

My twin sister wasn't too fond of that kind of play... (But also very messy.)

SilverOtter · 11/11/2019 15:23

@MsBH me too! I still have most of mine from childhood (my mum gave a load away damn herAngry)....plus quite a few more I've collected as an adult!!

penguingorl · 11/11/2019 20:52

Ticket to Ride, I've only got 3 of the board games but I have all of the different versions/extensions on my laptop, phone and Kindle! Love it and play pretty much daily, sometimes for hours at a time.

TwistedFairytales · 11/11/2019 21:14

I borrowed a friends carpet cleaner and got such a kick out of using it. I also get really excited by anything to do with wool as I have started knitting and crocheting. I am 36 btw, not 66 🙄

dayswithaY · 11/11/2019 21:39

I have just made an emergency grab bag and I love it. I bought a black nylon backpack and I have filled it with mini basic toiletries, medication, a change of clothes. Also the things I can't live without - mascara, handcream, my favourite perfume and jewellery. I also have a mini concertina file with all our passports, spare keys, my NI number and insurance details. I don't actually know what it's for but it gives me so much pleasure that everything I need to survive is in one place. I imagine having to flee the country or go into hiding and I just grab my bag and go. I'm always tidying it and thinking of new things to add to it.

Wallpaper gives me pleasure. My favourite brands are Cole & Sons, Osborne & Little, House of Hackney, Little Greene. I can identify most brands by sight. I love paint charts too. I have loads and I find them relaxing to look at. I have papered the inside of an understairs cupboard with designer wallpaper samples.

NaToth · 11/11/2019 21:49

Trams. I love a tram.

Wineandpyjamas · 12/11/2019 21:25

Oh so many! Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings and the Dark Materials trilogy.

Love reading and writing fan fiction. My DH DMs a D&D game online every week and I love it! Aasimar Paladin for anyone else into it!

I love jigsaws, puzzle books and board games. Knitting as well (though I’m spectacularly bad at it).

Adult colouring books, video games (especially sims and stardew valley).

Honestly I could go on forever!

twilightcafe · 15/11/2019 16:10

Knitting needles. I have different lengths and materials depending on what yarn I'm knitting with.

pooopypants · 15/11/2019 17:08

Alexa is my new favourite gadget. She rocks my world!

StroppyWoman · 15/11/2019 17:48

@pooopypants, our Alexa's most common instruction is "Play the Hamilton soundtrack"

kippenvel · 15/11/2019 17:53

@StroppyWoman I think I've found my soulmate!

StroppyWoman · 15/11/2019 18:12

@kippenvel We're women of discernment and class, clearly.
