To ask my MIL to stay in an AirBnB when she visits?

We have 3 kids and a 3 bedroom house. Lots of kids, toys and stuff! Rejig of rooms when she stays, blow up beds etc.

About 4 houses down is an AirBnB, £26 per night. Really nice lady runs / owns it. Is it unreasonable to suggest she stops there in future? MIL doesn't visit often, only 3 times a year for a 4 days, no FIL on the scene.

I imagine that if the kids are still young enough to squash up, then the problem of space is dealt with by squashing the kids up. Worry about what you'll do when the kids are too old to squash up; if they're the same sex then that actually won't happen until they leave home. Worry about it when it happens.

Like it or not extended family are visitors and guests. They throw off the running of the household while they are there

It's not fucking balmoral

It's not fucking balmoral

What? Are you sure? I could have sworn it was.

LovePoppy · 09/11/2019 02:44

@NoSauce, it’s not weird. It’s respect for other people and their spaces.

Ftr, I have very good relationships with my family members. Inlaws and parents.

NoSauce · 09/11/2019 08:39

It’s weird to me. Immediate family are not extended family. They shouldn’t be thought of as guests when they stay. Phoning to see if you’re in is sensible but not because they need permission to visit. In my book anyway.

I’ve just realised that it says Airbnb not bnb! I use cheap B and B or travel lodge etc when I visit, not Airbnb
Should read the thread properly! Blaming my age

SoloParenting not sure how you tagged your messages on to this thread.

You need to start your own thread and not in AIBU.

saraclara · 09/11/2019 09:10

@soloparenting you need to start your own thread on this. You'll get plenty of advice, but not her in this thread about mothers in law staying in Airbnbs!

Try starting a thread here @soloparenting

With my ex-mother in law I wouldn't have had her in the house anyway. So no such problem.
But if you have a good old MIL then it would depend on how long she wants to stay. Surely for a couple of nights you could squeeze up a bit? But if you are already like Steptoe's yard then she might welcome you putting your hand in your pockets and thinking of her getting the best of her visit by having a bit of respite from the melee. Certainly I would.
