WIBU to move house because of this cat?

I've lived in this house for a few years now. Since day one, a cat has been hanging around. It looks healthy and well fed, clearly not a stray, but it has taken a shine to me and the house.
When I run the kitchen tap, it comes running because it hears I'm in the kitchen. When I go to the loo, it sits underneath the window shouting as it can hear I'm in there. When I turn on the light in the living room, it sits on the windowsill meowing. When I come home or go out, it's on my doorstep trying to push past me and get in.
I do not like cats. This particular one is doing my head in with its stalkerish behaviour and its constant shouting. I have tried citrus, anti cat pellets, those sprays that cats supposedly hate - doesn't work. I have used a water pistol to no avail. I have sworn at it in multiple languages - nothing.
Sometimes I need to go out but I can't be bothered pushing past this cat again. Sometimes I don't turn the light on because I can't face the shouting, or I hold my pee because I don't want it to know where I am. It feels like a blimming hostage situation.
I'm going to have to move aren't I?

This stuff happens OP. Just ignore it, it obviously likes you and wants to have a nose around your house. You don't need to hold your pee in.

ALongHardWinter · 30/10/2019 17:15

Oh dear. This is not going to go well...... You do realise that the majority of MNers are cat obsessed?! Grin

ClientListQueen · 30/10/2019 17:16

It's the "I don't like cats"
The cat knows. They just do. I have one that lets himself in to hang out with my cat Hmm

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 30/10/2019 17:19

I had a cat stalker. It used to miaow at the front and back door wanting to come in.

It the door was left open for more than a second, she'd dive in. Even woke me at 6am once.

I tried to take it to a vet once, she'd hated me after that.

Soubriquet · 30/10/2019 17:21

It’s a bloody cat...not a midnight murderous stalker

Ignore it.

The more you pay attention to it, the more determined it will be trying to gain your love

onthecoins · 30/10/2019 17:22

Stop fighting it OP, embrace the cat. It has chosen you. You don't get a say in it if a cat has chosen you. Grin

“ or I hold my pee because I don't want it to know where I am.”

That is absolutely ridiculous Hmm

NamechangeWhatFor · 30/10/2019 17:25

I disagree with above, cats always love people who ignore them. Stop playing hard to get and she'll get bored and move on.

crustycrab · 30/10/2019 17:25

I'd hate this. The previous owners must've fed it.

Trap it in a cat basket, threaten it with the vets for half an hour and see if that works

RedSheep73 · 30/10/2019 17:26

Best way to get rid of said cat - get your own cat, it'll soon fight it off. Or a barky dog, that could work.

MiniMum97 · 30/10/2019 17:28

Cats don't shout they mew or miaow. Unless it is a fucking enormous car the volume will not be anything like shouting!

We have a stalker cat too. It's our neighbours two doors down. He is super friendly and thinks our garden is a great place to sleep in any weather. He also constantly wants to come in and miaows at our doors and windows. However we have a cat so can't have that. He is super cute and wants to be friends with us and our cat. Our cat is not at all happy about this and is having none of it!

I think it's because we are the first house along without children.

cccameron · 30/10/2019 17:31

Get those sonic cat repellants from Amazon. You put them around your garden and they emit a high frequency sound that keeps cats away. Worked for my mil

thechancellor · 30/10/2019 17:31

This one definitely doesn't mew or miaow...it goes RRAAARGH when I'm upstairs or WAAAAH when I'm downstairs.

Forget the water pistol - you need a super soaker. If it makes you feel better, I live with a cat like this and much as I live him, I do wish he would stop the random shouting at me.

MitziK · 30/10/2019 17:37

Sounds perfectly normal, friendly cat behaviour to me. He likes you.

Is it possible your house was his home before and neighbours took him in/he was abandoned by his previous family? If so, you're in his house.

FizzyGreenWater · 30/10/2019 17:39

Bengal cats shout. And scream, and hoot. They are AWFUL.

Bellringer · 30/10/2019 17:45

Persevere with water pistol

Thunderpunt · 30/10/2019 17:47

Get a dog?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 30/10/2019 17:50

I’m so jealous. All my neighbours have dogs. I’d love a shouty stalker cat!

ItsJustTheOneSwanActually · 30/10/2019 17:53

I have a part bengal cat that definitely shouts Grin

Beveren · 30/10/2019 17:53

Get double glazing so you can't hear it.

bridgetreilly · 30/10/2019 17:54

Ugh. I would absolutely hate this. Call the RSPCA and report it as a stray?

Iwantacookie · 30/10/2019 17:56

@bridget unless the cat is trapped or visible injured then rspca wont do anything

Zaphodsotherhead · 30/10/2019 17:57

I'll lend you my terrier.

Ten minutes with her, and you will never see the cat again. Mind you, you'll be stuck with a terrier that follows you to the toilet and makes eye contact while you wee. That's worse.
