WIBU to move house because of this cat?

thechancellor · 30/10/2019 17:10

I've lived in this house for a few years now. Since day one, a cat has been hanging around. It looks healthy and well fed, clearly not a stray, but it has taken a shine to me and the house.
When I run the kitchen tap, it comes running because it hears I'm in the kitchen. When I go to the loo, it sits underneath the window shouting as it can hear I'm in there. When I turn on the light in the living room, it sits on the windowsill meowing. When I come home or go out, it's on my doorstep trying to push past me and get in.
I do not like cats. This particular one is doing my head in with its stalkerish behaviour and its constant shouting. I have tried citrus, anti cat pellets, those sprays that cats supposedly hate - doesn't work. I have used a water pistol to no avail. I have sworn at it in multiple languages - nothing.
Sometimes I need to go out but I can't be bothered pushing past this cat again. Sometimes I don't turn the light on because I can't face the shouting, or I hold my pee because I don't want it to know where I am. It feels like a blimming hostage situation.
I'm going to have to move aren't I?

I love cats but he would freak me out OP

I think he may want to eat you

JorisBonson · 30/10/2019 20:55

This is the best MN thread I've ever met.

And yes, Bengals are stupidly loud and annoying. Mine puts it's nose in my mouth while I'm asleep.

JorisBonson · 30/10/2019 20:55

Met? Hmm Read.

Beamur · 30/10/2019 21:01

Stalker cat does look a bit mad...
I love a shouty cat. My furry overlady has a fierce face but a ridiculously small squeaky meow.

user1473878824 · 30/10/2019 21:06

Chuck a pint of cold water over it. And is say this as a cat lover with my very lovely (VERY FUCKING LOUD) cat sitting my lap. Everyone one on here seems to go mental when that’s suggested but it’s not boiling oil. Might put it off for at least ooooh five minutes?

mumwon · 30/10/2019 21:10

Lion poo from zoo cats apparently hate it (I suspect the smell wont be that pleasant for us either!)

Stayawayfromitsmouth · 30/10/2019 21:11

Wee on the cat. Mark your territory.

Dollymixture22 · 30/10/2019 21:22

Could you attach a note to its collar and ask the owners to call you?

Say it’s being very noisy and ask them to Keep it indoors in the evenings (assuming that’s when it really annoys you)?

I am a cat person and it is very cute😊 but I wouldn’t want my little angel annoying a neighbour like this. I occasionally see her staring in the neighbours window and always call her home.

thetardis · 30/10/2019 21:28

lol @ stopping one's little angel annoying the neighbours.

thetardis · 30/10/2019 21:28

to "rescue" him through an open window i should point out :D

AufderAutobahn · 30/10/2019 21:33

@thechancellor that cat is beautiful 😍

1984isnow · 30/10/2019 21:36

That photoGrin

'Why are you in my house?'

SerenDippitty · 30/10/2019 21:38

Sounds like a friendly sociable cat. I’d love it.

Junkmail · 30/10/2019 21:42

@MiniMum97 Cats shout. Believe me. I have four and it’s frequently a contest to see who can shout the loudest. Miaowing is not the right word for it—this is a sound straight out of hell.

OP—ignore it. They’re not stupid and if you don’t give it a second of your time it’ll get the message. If it’s well fed and not a stray so you have any way of finding the owners and letting them know what’s going on? They may agree to at least keep it in at night if they’re reasonable.

catsinahuffagain · 30/10/2019 21:59

That photo is hilarious. Does look like you've got a proper stalker there. Give in, OP. Resistance is futile.

Redshoesandtheblues · 30/10/2019 22:11

Give in. You have been chosen. And hes beautiful.

Branster · 30/10/2019 22:14

Awww what a beautiful cat! She definitely looks like she wants to be with you Smile

Papergirl1968 · 30/10/2019 22:28

Great thread apart from the twattish response from NotYourHolidayDick

hettie · 30/10/2019 22:29

That cat has a bloody great collar.... This is a wind up of course 1/2 term, Mumsnet catlovers call out

Dollymixture22 · 30/10/2019 22:39

The tardiness - she is a nosey little blighter! Stares at them for hours😂

junecat · 30/10/2019 22:44

I have a Ragdoll that are supposed to be one of the most docile breeds ever but believe me he can shout :) I've always been a huge dog person until I was asked to take this cat and he has me well and truly bewitched! Cat's are weird but that feeling you get when they choose to love you is ridiculous 💕

Abouttogonuts · 30/10/2019 22:46

I don’t like cats either. That cat looks creepy. I’d move Grin

Or I do like a PP’s suggestion of trapping it in a cat carrier for a few hours. It’d never come back then.

AtSea1979 · 30/10/2019 22:49

It can hear you’re in the bathroom. What on earth!

NationMcKinley · 30/10/2019 22:51

I have a small black moggy (not a euphemism). She has a SO fucking loud. She roars All. The. Bloody. Time. She sits on the edge of the bath when I’m in it shouting and judging.

Cats are massive arseholes which must be why I’ve had so many over the years and planning on getting another one soon HmmGrin
