WIBU to move house because of this cat?

thechancellor · 30/10/2019 17:10

I've lived in this house for a few years now. Since day one, a cat has been hanging around. It looks healthy and well fed, clearly not a stray, but it has taken a shine to me and the house.
When I run the kitchen tap, it comes running because it hears I'm in the kitchen. When I go to the loo, it sits underneath the window shouting as it can hear I'm in there. When I turn on the light in the living room, it sits on the windowsill meowing. When I come home or go out, it's on my doorstep trying to push past me and get in.
I do not like cats. This particular one is doing my head in with its stalkerish behaviour and its constant shouting. I have tried citrus, anti cat pellets, those sprays that cats supposedly hate - doesn't work. I have used a water pistol to no avail. I have sworn at it in multiple languages - nothing.
Sometimes I need to go out but I can't be bothered pushing past this cat again. Sometimes I don't turn the light on because I can't face the shouting, or I hold my pee because I don't want it to know where I am. It feels like a blimming hostage situation.
I'm going to have to move aren't I?

|It's the "I don't like cats. The cat knows. They just do.

They do know, the fuckers. I don't like cats either and am violently allergic to them. They know. They size me up and come slinking over to me, desperate to provoke an allergic response with their minging cat saliva.

Daddystilllost · 30/10/2019 17:59

In all seriousness, could this cat be homeless? Doesn't sound like he's ever in?!

CurryAndCobra · 30/10/2019 18:01

borrow a dog that hates cats. He will be off like a shot Grin

Branster · 30/10/2019 18:02

Simple solution: borrow a friend’s dog for a few hours every now and then.
If you don’t like dogs either, just ask your friend to hang around your house with said dog whilst you pop out for a bit.

Branster · 30/10/2019 18:02

CurryAndCobra great minds ...

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 30/10/2019 18:03

My kittens love ds1 who is allergic and really not a fan. They both like to sit on him

BadnessInTheFolds · 30/10/2019 18:05

Tiger poo?

Hey1256 · 30/10/2019 18:06

Oh OP I feel your pain. I HATE cats. And my DH has one that I have to live with.

So I say thank yourself lucky your not in my situation and that and ignore it!!?

ThreeLittleDots · 30/10/2019 18:06

Seriously, do you know where it lives? If it's stray / gets fed by everyone but nobody to live with - call Cats Protection League and they'll trap it for happy rehoming.

isseywith4vampirecats · 30/10/2019 18:09

the simple solution is make a paper collar with your phone number on it and a message asking an owner to ring you if the cat is thiers put it on the cat and if no one rings you you will know the cat is a stray and you can ring a rescue to put him or her on their list to go into rescue, if an owner rings up you will know he is owned and you can just ignore him

ShetlandWife · 30/10/2019 18:09

It’s a bloody cat...not a midnight murderous stalker

I disagree. That's pretty much the very definition of a cat Grin

rubydoobydoo · 30/10/2019 18:09

We have a shouty stalker cat too, he's very demanding. We eventually found out he lived next door, and despite what he tells us several times a day, they DO actually feed him!

He's not bothered by our existing cats, he just assumes he's our cat too. He's also been known to terrorise the dog on the other side.....

We just accept he's our extra cat now!

thechancellor · 30/10/2019 18:09

It leaves around 10.30pm and returns first thing in the morning, so I assume it goes home to be fed and fussed over and sleep - it always looks immaculate.

Oh you naive human.

He assumes he's your master too. Cats don't have owners. They have servants.

BuzzingtheBee · 30/10/2019 18:20

But it loves you.. it wants you to be its person.

Moneyplants · 30/10/2019 18:21

Limerance.

WooomanMoomin · 30/10/2019 18:22

Get those sonic cat repellants from Amazon. You put them around your garden and they emit a high frequency sound that keeps cats away. Worked for my mil

Did your MIL stopped coming over?Halloween Grin

Ilovetolurk · 30/10/2019 18:26

Did your MIL stopped coming over?

Genius. All those MIL threads, immediately redundant

Staffy1 · 30/10/2019 18:27

Lol! Be thankful it's a cat. My previous neighbours 5 cats used to drive me mad, hanging around and using the garden as a toilet. Now we have foxes in the garden every night, digging huge holes everywhere, digging up plants, ripping the trampoline and also using the garden as a toilet. Bring back the cats I say, I would rather have 100 cats than 1 fox.

thechancellor · 30/10/2019 18:27

Ooh, a MIL repellant...now you're talking!

Animals do know if you dislike them, I really don’t like dogs and for some reason they always try to make friends with me!

pinksoda35 · 30/10/2019 18:37

Maybe put a add on Facebook local pages? that way you may find out if he/she belongs to somebody..and maybe that somebody will keep a closer eye on their cats whereabouts....
I love cats and would feel sorry for it and probably let it in etc..I know this isn't what you want to do!!
Yep moving is your only option!
I like the idea of trapping it in the house for a while. it SHOULD shoot off never to be seen again( well for a few days)

You don't get a say in it if a cat has chosen you.

So true. This is why you have to be very careful when picking up a kitten. If it likes you it will cast the kitten love spell.

Crochetymum · 30/10/2019 18:44

@rubydoobydoo 😁😁 my neighbours cat thinks he's mine too, and also sits with my cat on the roof, scares off other neighbours cats and bats my dog in the face a few times a day! I try not to feed him but he tells me he's so hungry 😂😭. He is on the skinny side, buy my garden has good sun, good company so we must be a nice place to hang out.
Op he must like you , but maybe don't show him any interest at all. I couldn't resist because I love cats and dogs, hav you ever fed him? Maybe he's abandoned
