ExecutiveFiat · 30/10/2019 08:55

I think it’s inevitable now and only a matter of when not if!
When will it happen and will it be a yes? What are your predictions?

Should say I have a lot of friends in Scotland who are seeing this election as the beginnings of a campaign for an indyref.

No. Just.... no

Apolloanddaphne · 30/10/2019 09:13

I am Scottish and I really hope there is not another referendum. If there is I will still be voting no. I do not believe Scotland can maintain itself as an independent country.

Mrsjayy · 30/10/2019 09:13

Snp manifesto is independence. Nicola will always harp on about indyref I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon voters imo are just fed up and we voted to stay in the union and I think it would be the same again.

Buccanarab · 30/10/2019 09:20

I hope it will happen and I hope those who voted no last time are able to see through the unionist propaganda and lies. I'm not hopeful though, too many believe the too little, too poor, too stupid to run ourselves lie.

QueenoftheDay · 30/10/2019 09:22

This is why I am utterly stumped with who to vote for.

Straight race between Tory and SNP in my area. Tactical voting would be to vote SNP but I don’t want to be part of giving them a mandate for a second independence referendum. I just won’t. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Also does anyone else fucking hate the term “indy” or “indyref” or is it just me??

Mrsjayy · 30/10/2019 09:25

It drives me up the wall. Piss off with your indyref ! It really grates on me there is no need. We have a Tory MP here and I really want him out nobody seems to like him

inlectorecumbit · 30/10/2019 09:26

I was a No last time and would be an even more resounding No this time.
Saying that l have no clue who to vote for but on a positive note the rest of my family and a few friends are changing their vote now to No

blartysartfast · 30/10/2019 09:28

Should say I have a lot of friends in Scotland who are seeing this election as the beginnings of a campaign for an indyref. They started campaigning for indyref2 the second they lost the once in a generation indyref1. One issue crowd of charlatans, will get eaten alive by the EU if, god forbid, the result is ever independence.

MissRabbitNeedsAHoliday · 30/10/2019 09:29

Its driving me insane. The last few years I feel like it's been constant general elections and referendums. I'm from Scotland and would hate another referendum at the moment. I have no idea who I'm going to vote for in the general election either, I don't want to vote snp and give them ideas for another referendum, don't want to vote Tory and I'm not a fan of Jeremy Corbyn 🤦‍♀️

MrsMaiselsMuff · 30/10/2019 09:32

@QueenoftheDay Do you want another five years of austerity? Because that's the alternative. If you have another referendum you have the option to vote no.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 30/10/2019 09:35

I'm not a fan of Jeremy Corbyn

Labour is not just one man!

Vote tactically. Look at previous results, local and national, and try to predict who has the best chance to beat the Tories.

Saddler · 30/10/2019 09:47

Still be no but a bit closer.

KissCurls · 30/10/2019 09:50

I think that emotions, apart from anything else, might drive the result of a second independence referendum and tip it towards 'yes', as with Brexit. BoJo has shown that he doesn't give two hoots about Scotland (or Wales). There's so much anger about this. I voted no in the last independence referendum but I would reconsider this a second time. If the UK does leave the EU and Nicola could guarantee EU membership for Scotland ahead of a second referendum then I think it'd be a forgone conclusion.

foxyknoxy30 · 30/10/2019 09:53

I am bloody sick of this !this apparently once in a lifetime vote actually means the SNP will keep badgering on until they get their way!was a no still a no and always will be a no just run the feckin country and do your job

TildaKauskumholm · 30/10/2019 09:53

I live in Scotland and have still not been told how independence would work if a majority voted for it. Assuming it would be Post-Brexit then Scotland would have to apply to the EU as a new member, decide whether to use the Euro as they would not be able to use sterling, border issues, etc etc. I would like to hear SNP explain all this, but will vote no as I do before (as I think most will do).

Sittinginthepower · 30/10/2019 09:59

"If the UK does leave the EU and Nicola could guarantee EU membership for Scotland ahead of a second referendum then I think it'd be a forgone conclusion."
She won't be able to guarantee EU membership though. Can you even imagine the EU wanting Scotland in the EU after the problems sorting out Ireland and Northern Ireland? I'd be surprised if they would want the headache of sorting out what to do about the UK border with Scotland if they were independent.

I'm all for Scotland having a vote on independence if it looks like a majority might want it. I do think it would be fair to wait until UK have negotiated their trade agreement with EU though so that Scotland's population can make an informed vote.

ExecutiveFiat · 30/10/2019 10:01

all the polls are showing a majority for yes. What will you all do if it’s a yes?

OP posts:
Star81 · 30/10/2019 10:02

The only thing the SNP manifesto says to be is that they as a party don’t respect the result of referendums.

Willyoujustbequiet · 30/10/2019 10:05

I live on the border and it seems to be a stronger no here than before. People are anxious after the Brexit fiasco. Better the devil you know.

TheGirlFromStoryville · 30/10/2019 10:07

Do Scottish people feel the SNP are doing a good job running the country?
I know there's lots of positive points-no tuition fees, free prescriptions for all, free school meals etc.
Are there any negatives?

yellowallpaper · 30/10/2019 10:09

Once Brexit is decided, one way or another give them a vote. The dust needs to settle and a permanent deal on Brexit done,. Only then will we know what the finances are. If the Scots rejoin the eu then they would, have to sort a border out. Other countries manage it. It's not the same as NI and The ROI.

Didntwanttochangemyname · 30/10/2019 10:09

They asked, we voted no. That should be the end of it. They can't keep asking until they get the answer they want.

Middledistancerunner · 30/10/2019 10:12

Thank god - yes please

As a Scot living in England the Vast majority of Scots have no idea how good they have got it and how much the Scottish Parliament have protected them from the torys.
I’d love the no people to try and access hospitals / Old peoples homes and schools around Birmingham for a month then decide if they want independence - I can’t imagine they could maintain their stance if they had more experience deprivation and lack of services in the rest of the UK.

ExecutiveFiat · 30/10/2019 10:19

i’ve heard arelene foster say that if Ireland united she will move. Would Scots move south of the border then if there was independence. I know people are wishing away another ref, but it’s going to happen sooner or later.
