How are you voting in December?

Apologies if there’s already a thread on this - I did look and couldn’t find one.

So now it’s been confirmed that we’re having a GE in December, how are you voting? And what are your predictions on the results?

I’ve seen quite a few posts on here over the past couple months from people saying they wouldn’t vote now as they are politically homeless - wondering if these people still feel that way?

I’m voting labour - albeit in a very safe Tory area (so feel very much as though my vote doesn’t count). Reasons being I would never vote Tory and I don’t like a lot of what the Lim Dems have said recently. I also couldn’t bring myself not to vote at all.

No your husband does not 40% tax on his wage

He pays 40% tax on earnings over £45,001 and below £150,000

Sorry !

@JinglingHellsBells no one forced you to comment or give us your point of view.

Every level feels put upon I guess. Well can’t speak for the tax avoiders. But the middle do, the lowest feel the hit of inequality which feels worse as it gets larger. The highest feel they’re carrying the load as net contributors.

If more has to be paid in which income bracket would you go for? Or maybe it’s fine as it is, or too much already.

Just musing really. I’m quite interested in the overall machinations of how to get it right.

MarshaBradyo · 31/10/2019 13:57

The future of the NHS does concern me. Private is an option but the NHS still covers a lot if you have that. What is the future under Cons if it’s pulled apart

I liked the model suggested below with a low contribution by those who can

MarshaBradyo · 31/10/2019 13:59

An option for some I should say.

Ginghamricecakes · 31/10/2019 14:06

I will be voting labour, passionately Flowers. I'm a young teacher, and so many of the answers on here are very disappointing. A lot of my professional friends have left the country permanently, and these kind of thread highlight exactly why, and what the UK could soon become.

This is a general election, NOT a referendum.

It truly disheartens me to see so many, often older people (no offense intended), voting conservative. I wish that they would come to my school one day, and see the impact that Tory policies are having on the little ones in my class and their families. It's heart breaking, and I'm sure many NHS workers would tell you the same also.

Some of the comments about paying tax are absolutely abhorrent; just think, a lot of your success was enabled by socialist policies, it's your time to give back. Which version of yourself are you voting for?

The division of 'left-wing' voters between labour/lib dem/SNP is so unfortunate, and will lead to a Tory victory and further years of bad policies and ill-condidered power pleas like brexit.

Don't vote conservative. I don't think our public services, education system, vulnerable members of society can take much more. I am confident that furthers years of a Tory govt will eventually bring about the end of the UK as an attractive place to live and work, and all of us young workers will flee.

Elle7rose · 31/10/2019 14:12

I agree with the previous poster i.e. "Don't vote conservative. I don't think our public services, education system, vulnerable members of society can take much more. " 100%, I'll vote Labour.

Corbyn cares about Social Justice and provision for all. Johnson cares about himself and being in power.

mylifenow27 · 31/10/2019 14:19

Well said ginghamricecakes I don't think people understand the reality at all.

LarryDuff · 31/10/2019 14:19

Looking at numbers for the last election it'll have to be labour. I'm in Ed Milliband's constituency so assuming he stands again it he should win, although this is a strong leave area so who knows. I'm personally hoping for a labour/LD coalition

summedup · 31/10/2019 14:26

No idea! I live in a swing seat who largely voted Remain so I've got no clue as to which way it will go!

FadingStar · 31/10/2019 14:30

Thank you Gingham. Thanks I work in the community sector and my clients have had their lives decimated by Tory policy. These are people who are already coping with childhood trauma or neglect, violent relationships and crushed self worth. Some of them just can't take anymore. Many have already not made it. We cannot forget about them.

formerbabe · 31/10/2019 14:35

I live in a safe Labour seat. See no reason to bother to be honest. Might go and spoil my ballot paper though.

formerbabe · 31/10/2019 14:38

My politics are centre leaning slightly to the right if pushed. As for brexit, I think democracy should be respected but as it was virtually 50/50, I feel it should be a very soft brexit. Don't feel like anyone represents me.

Timmytimetime · 31/10/2019 14:39

I'd rather boil my own head than vote Tory, imagine 5 more years of Boris Johnson, Priti Patel and Dominic Raab, 5 years to dismantle (sell off) the NHS and destroy the welfare state, the vulnerable in society will be fucked. I am truly fearful of a Tory majority.

And Brexit will not "be done" if BJ gets in, it's just the beginning of years of negotiations, cliff edges and more misery.

formerbabe · 31/10/2019 14:41

Oh and I can't decide who I dislike more...Corbyn or Johnson?

formerbabe · 31/10/2019 14:42

But my prediction is the Tories will win easily.

CendrillonSings · 31/10/2019 14:49

I will be voting labour, passionately

I will be voting Conservative, passionately Grin

No country for old socialist men!

ArthurtheCatsHumanSlave · 31/10/2019 14:55

The NHS will not be sold off, such blatant propoganda. It might be reformed, hopefully one day, if we allow it, hoo bloody ray, and some of it may be privatised, indeed it is already, but it will continue to be free at the point of delivery, and that is all anyone is worried about. Everyone always assumes it will follow the US model, completely ignoring the fact that every other European country has a different, and better, system.

Ginghamricecakes · 31/10/2019 15:00

Try no country for any men, when all of the young professionals sod off! You'll be left with an ageing population, and no taxes to support it. Paying through the nose for health and social care after the NHS crumbles, with a poorly educated population because they can't retain any experienced teachers and a society unable to attract migrant employees for professional jobs because they shudder at the thought of moving into a county full of bigotted, slogan spluttering idiots, who blindly follow a party that repeatedly introduces detrimental policies Hmm

Puzzledandpissedoff · 31/10/2019 15:04

Everyone always assumes (the NHS) will follow the US model, completely ignoring the fact that every other European country has a different, and better, system

Ah, but it makes for a better headline ...

Figmentofmyimagination · 31/10/2019 15:04

Eleanor your comment about voting Tory to ‘get Brexit done’ reminded me of a very funny Banx cartoon in the FT last week:

Two suited men walking through the business district and chatting - caption “My father was a Brexit negotiator, and his father before him”.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 31/10/2019 15:06

Voting Tory to get Brexit done?

They've had long enough to sort it and haven't.

MaMaMaMySharona · 31/10/2019 15:12

Voting Tory to get Brexit done

I do not understand how after 3 years of failing to do this, anyone would give them a vote with confidence that they could get it done (well) with an extra month.

OP posts:
QuentinWinters · 31/10/2019 15:14

It might be reformed, hopefully one day, if we allow it, hoo bloody ray
This sort of comment baffles me. Not sure what so desperately needs reforming in the NHS.
It would however function much better if social care was funded properly, strangely though the mostly older conservative voters never want to consider how their care should be paid for fairly - because they "paid taxes all their lives" and want it free. As well as their final salary pensions, free bus passes, big mortgage free properties etc.
Hmm
