Or any terrifying TV shows would also be good. Thanks in advance!

The Skeleton Key

Dramaofallama · 25/10/2019 16:46

Actually I would say most James wan films tbh. He is pretty good at making classic jump scare ghost films (insidious, the conjuring, sinister and annabelle).
Most his films are connected to eachother too.

@MissLadyM
Shall we go backing through Oz then?

Event Horizon - part of the scariness is that is so not what you think it's going to be... Its not a sci-fi!

AnnaNimmity · 25/10/2019 17:10

I think the Descent and Babadook. I had proper flashbacks after the descent!

Watched Hereditary recently and it was fine.

cricketmum84 · 25/10/2019 17:13

I saw a few clips from The Quiet Place on gogglebox the other week and they terrified me so much I was almost at panic attack stage. DH had to fast forward. It was just too tense for me.

AnnaNimmity · 25/10/2019 17:17

yes i saw that too cricketmum. Made a note to self to watch it. It looked terrifying.

I haven't seen The Ring - want to watch that. I'm alone this weekend though so will be sticking to Succession I think.

cricketmum84 · 25/10/2019 17:18

Anna I made a mental note to most definitely NOT watch 🤣

PuppyMonkey · 25/10/2019 17:22

Salem’s Lot from the 1980s was literally amazing. David Soul and James Mason, ooh shudder. A pivotal moment in my childhood. Remember my whole school was talking about it, didn’t they show it over a few nights like a mini series? Brilliant adaptation.

Pursefirst · 25/10/2019 17:22

@PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind i went to see Event Horizon with my dad when it first came out. Both of us assumed it was a sci-fi movie.

I have honestly never been so scared in my entire life. To this day, I haven't been able to rewatch it Halloween Shock

BrexitThroughTheGiftShop · 25/10/2019 17:24

Mother! Jennifer Lawrence is pretty horendous. I'm not sure I'd class as scary in a "Whoo! I just jumped out of my seat" way. It's more mentally terrifying.

It's a horrible film and my advice is not to watch it. There's a scene towards the end that will stay in your mind and eat away like an evil mental worm that is horrific.

I'd wish I'd not watched it - but hey if that's what you are looking for?

nononever · 25/10/2019 17:26

My husband has never seen Wolf Creek… he wants to watch it tonight 😱

CobaltRose96 · 25/10/2019 17:26

Jacob’s Ladder. I’m not easily frightened and think most horror films are guff, but that stuck with me!

Crazyoldmaurice · 25/10/2019 17:41

I really struggle to find anything scary which is a shame as I do love being scared shitless.

Sinister was great until they showed too much face of whatever the demon type thing was, less is more when it comes to horrors. It was so much better at the start when you just catch a glimpse.

I found the orphanage very creepy.

Spoiltbutnothappy · 25/10/2019 17:48

Crazy as in the Spanish film "The Orphanage"? That is the creepiest movie I've seen!

dontforgettofloss · 25/10/2019 17:49

The exorcist, and the entity- this film made me scared to be alone in the house

MrsGrindah · 25/10/2019 17:53

God yes I came on here to say Salem’s Lot..my sister has to accompany me to the toilet after that.. I was 18! I still can’t look at a window in the night without expecting Danny to appear...
Also the original Let The Right One In ....I have a thing against child vampires....

MogThoughtDarkThoughts · 25/10/2019 17:58

Most of mine have been covered already but I would say:

Babadook
It follows
Under the shadow (brilliant Iranian horror)
Definite soft spot for the Others although it’s old now.
Ju-on (the grudge)
Dark water (original)

I loved loved loved Quiet place but best to see that on the biggest best system you can as the sound is so integral. Ideally at the cinema.

WhoisitnowRalph · 25/10/2019 17:59

I always trawl these posts looking for ideas - I pretty much watch horrors or creepy films exclusively (not interested in gore or torture porn), but I don't scare easily and find the majority of them fairly tame.

I definitely rate The Grudge, The Ring, It Follows, Martyrs (original) and Hereditary.

I quite liked the Paranormal Activity films, Babadook, Mama, and The Exorcist.

Largely unmoved by the Conjuring, Sinister, Insidious etc. Some are just crap - I thought Blair Witch and The Witch were way overrated, and as for Eli which I watched with great hope last night - jeez, what a dreadful ending. And Fractured is totally predictable.

I'm not really an old misery with no imagination but I long for something properly terrifying! Haven't watched Event Horizon, keep eyeing it on Amazon but sense I might be disappointed...??

HaveIgoneMad · 25/10/2019 18:01

Shelter on Netflix and I thought hide and seek with Robert De Niro was really creepy

AnyFucker · 25/10/2019 18:01

.

MogThoughtDarkThoughts · 25/10/2019 18:02

I hated Hereditary though. I felt like it was 1/2 of a good film, nice and creepy - and then it went in a very odd direction.
