Or any terrifying TV shows would also be good. Thanks in advance!

Just googled Wolf Creek and the murderer it was based on. Turns out he died today in prison, spooky timing for a google search!

It's frightening though in a lingering psychological way. I thought the ending was horrible in a scary terrifying way. The concept (possible spoiler)
that everyone has to sleep at some point and then will be vulnerable is pretty creepy stuff

It's very much down to the viewer I think. It was an interesting and ambitious film. I enjoyed watching it Grin

(It's hard to talk about it without giving it away, as it's not like the more common storytelling out there) it's definitely worth a watch.

heidbuttsupper · 27/10/2019 16:41

Candyman terrified me as a youngster

Catlady89 · 27/10/2019 16:44

The Hitcher (2007) freaked me out!

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 27/10/2019 17:31

Joy ride is terrifying.
I agree with pp who mentioned the Final Destination films

Hagbeth · 27/10/2019 18:15

Ivan Milan the murderer who inspired Wolf Creek died today! Never seen the movie though, don’t like torture movies.

KeyboardCat · 27/10/2019 19:07

I'm so glad to see The Grudge on here so many times! I loved that film, I'd make 'the noise' in my husband's ear now and again afterwards. Most amusing Halloween Wink

Gonna watch Ghost Stories tonight based on recommendations on here, can't wait!

peppinanna · 27/10/2019 19:50

Agree with posters about sinister and the strangers both really unsettled me and creeped me out. Anything based on a true story gives me the creeps though 😂
Eden Lake is really uncomfortable and scary as it is very realistic as PP mentioned.
He's out there on Netflix is quite scary I was surprised and also Hush.
Avoid Wounds and Eli on Netflix they are awful!!

RandomAmanda · 27/10/2019 20:07

Not a horror, but a very tense movie: Buried. Ryan Reynolds is a driver working in Irag who wakes up to find himself buried underground in a coffin.

RandomAmanda · 27/10/2019 20:08

Agh! Iraq. He was working in Iraq. Not Irag, that would be very silly.

FadingStar · 27/10/2019 20:11

You're Next is exciting and horrific. Very fast paced with an unexpected climax.

Baldcrusader · 27/10/2019 20:43

Baxter Bear, thoroughly agree with a Serbian Film. Deeply unpleasant even compared to stuff like Men Behind The Sun and the Guinea Pig series.

Original Texas Chainsaw is great. Don't bother with the rest of them.

Martyrs, Inside, Funny Games. Originals only.

The Mist. If only for the ending which is truly magnificent.

If you want coherency don't bother with the Italian stuff. Korean and Japanese stuff is generally awesome if mental. The French have been banging out quality for years.

Mainstream horror uses too much cgi to be scary...

SparkyBlue · 27/10/2019 20:44

Rosemary's Baby absolutely terrified me.

Baldcrusader · 27/10/2019 20:45

Apologies for the pun in advance.

If Hey Duggee referenced Wolf Creek would it be head on a stick stick stick stick sticky sticky stick stick?

Metalhead · 27/10/2019 20:48

The Descent made DH jump out of his seat!

satanstoenailsandwich · 27/10/2019 20:49

I'd love to watch something spooky and ghostly but with no gore. Like the ring or the woman in black! I must check which films are on this week.

Vulpine · 27/10/2019 20:51

Im sorry but 'mother' is one of the worst films i have ever seen. Its a self indulgent wank fest for the director who was dating the star at the time. Scarily bad yes, scary - no.

peppinanna · 27/10/2019 20:52

Agree that mother! Is an overhyped mess trying to be religious but it got ridiculous.

snowball28 · 27/10/2019 20:55

I didn’t find sinister or insidious scary at all! I did absolutely hate every second of the witch though, not sure why but the music just unsettled me so much. Eden lake is petrifying I’m the sense that it’s so normal and I could see it happening in real life 😳

mauvaisereputation · 27/10/2019 21:04

Ring (Japanese movie). Aarrghh!!

cravingmilkshake · 27/10/2019 22:34

Love this thread!

American horror story series 2- Asylum. So creepy and scary!

Also, having read through, I haven't see. The fourth kind mentioned- was that petrified me!

Trewser · 27/10/2019 22:50

Oh i loved mother! Perfectly nightmarish.

Trewser · 27/10/2019 22:50

Agree that JL wasn't well cast though

secretfreckle · 27/10/2019 23:02

milkjetmum Inside Number 9! Was just telling my daughter about those yesterday. The one with Sheridan Smith in stayed with me for ages. Horrible.
I am also traumatised by a 'Tales of the Unexpected' I saw when I was a teenager (so more than 30 years ago) about a prisoner and her escape attempt.
