Or any terrifying TV shows would also be good. Thanks in advance!

Whiplash is fab but not a scary film

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/10/2019 12:11

Whiplash is a fantastic film great psychological drama

Not quite my tempo Shock said so calmly at first

The Others was terrifying

Trewser · 27/10/2019 12:12

The ending of whiplash was so so satisfying

His methods worked!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 27/10/2019 12:14

Yes it’s uncomfortable to agree that his bullying tactics did work

It’s such a good film and brilliant music

Ylfa · 27/10/2019 12:34

I found Whiplash scary in the Ohmygod Unbearably Tense And Disturbing kind of way.

Yes, perfect ending! All films should end so satisfyingly, but usually they don’t

Salems Lot back in the 80s/90s with David Soul and James Mason.
Started out as a mini series then they made it into a film.
Terrified me at the time, especially the rocking chair/window scene. Hasn't been shown in years but would definitely watch again if was on.

@Carrotcakeforbreakfast

Completely agree about Jeepers Creepers. Its like the first half was written by someone else. The bit when the guy is down the tunnel and the truck is coming back is excellent!

Trewser · 27/10/2019 12:47

It was a perfectly structured, and perfectly cast, two hander. Loved it!

FadingStar · 27/10/2019 12:49

The mini series of Salem's Lot is far superior to the chopped up movie version. It's crazy how it retains the scariness when you think it was shown on BBC decades ago and tonnes of kids (like me), watched it. It's far scarier than 99% of modern horror.

FadingStar · 27/10/2019 12:49

The director of Jeepers Creepers was a paedophile. Haven't watched it since learning that.

CarolDanvers · 27/10/2019 12:52

For all you Salem's Lot fans, they're making a proper movie of it. I think it was confirmed back in April 😧

JammieSplodger · 27/10/2019 12:55

Twin Peaks. I used to have nightmares from that. Set the standard for TV series' that followed.

The Orphanage is pretty scary if you're home alone in the dark!

AFairlyHardAvocado · 27/10/2019 12:56

I'm still so impressed with the child actress every time I watch Hereditary. She is so watchable. Hope she continues to do such fantastic work.

I LOVE horror and thrillers except torture porn (like Saw) because it just feels like needless violence that doesn't really have a story to it.

I was absolutely terrified (or totally unsettled might be a more accurate description) by Eden Lake and Wolf Creek.

I think it's because they are totally in the real world, so you place yourself in the characters situations more. I think they're the only films I've ever had to stop and then start again another day.

I'm really enjoying American Horror Story, working my way through each series now. Not too scary but clever and a mix of real world / supernatural depending on the series.

AFairlyHardAvocado · 27/10/2019 13:02

And terrifyingly, Wolf Creek is based on some of the murders by Ivan Milat. Don't google unless you have a strong stomach.

I knew about the real life murders before I watched the film which I think made it worse because I realised it wasn't far fetched, it was terribly real.

jent85 · 27/10/2019 13:30

@AFairlyHardAvocado
I had to google based on your post and Shock very randomly, Ivan Milat died today

Trewser · 27/10/2019 13:46

I didn't like Wolf Creek. Just nasty and gratuitous.

milkjetmum · 27/10/2019 13:54

You said about TV shows have you watched inside number 9? All are stand alone episodes with various themes, some are horror, some psychological horror. the Christmas special about krampus omg that stuck with me for some time, impressive for a 30min TV show!

Anyone already mentioned Event Horizon? Love the fact that they wanted to make an extended version of that film with more but the real film cannisters degraded in a Romanian salt mine where they were being stored!

AFairlyHardAvocado · 27/10/2019 14:15

Argh I hate weird coincidences like that - what are the odds?!

PammieDooveOrangeJoof · 27/10/2019 14:53

Yes I did exactly the same. How strange!

BrexitThroughTheGiftShop · 27/10/2019 15:13

mother! is being premiered on Film 4 tomorrow at 10.45pm.

This is an absolutely horrific film that will stay with you. It's so terrible that I'd be really shocked if it is broadcast on television uncut.

POSSIBLE SPOILER BUT A WARNING ABOUT THE FILM FOR THOSE WHO MIGHT WATCH IT

Without giving spoilers, I seriously wouldn't watch it if you have had any personal issues with infant mortality.

MBM18 · 27/10/2019 15:26

The Grudge, that film scared me for years after!

gamerchick · 27/10/2019 15:26

Mother! was an interesting film and a decent watch. But scary it isn't.

I'm not sure I'd go down the horrifying path either, it's very clever though. A refreshing change to the crap that's just churned out these days.

ForMySorrow · 27/10/2019 15:52

The Descent freaked me out.

BrexitThroughTheGiftShop · 27/10/2019 15:58

@gamerchick

It's frightening though in a lingering psychological way. I thought the ending was horrible in a scary terrifying way. The concept (possible spoiler)
that everyone has to sleep at some point and then will be vulnerable is pretty creepy stuff.

The mother earth and god religious allegory was interesting.
