Or any terrifying TV shows would also be good. Thanks in advance!

Ukulele that is

JemimaTab · 26/10/2019 04:31

I would say The Borderlands. Low budget UK film, found footage type of set-up, but the most horrific ending on a psychological level I think I’ve ever seen. It plays on a particular fear that many people have. I was shuddering about it for days afterwards.

Also, The Vanishing (original French/Dutch version) - 20+ years old now, but I still remember it as one of the most unsettling films I’ve seen. Again, the ending is skin-crawling.

Buddytheelf85 · 26/10/2019 04:44

I found the Hannibal trilogy really disturbing, especially Red Dragon.

echt · 26/10/2019 05:04

Hellraiser
Ju-on
The Haunting
The Orphanage.
Kill List

YY for the original The Vanishing
Not horror but very unsettling: Paperhouse
Not horror as it's based on real events: Snowtown. Bloody horrible, and so well-made.

Seahorseshoe · 26/10/2019 05:42

If you liked Blair Witch, there are loads of found footage films of that ilk.

I loved Hereditary, It Follows, The Witch, The Ritual, A dark Song, oooh I could go on.

custardbear · 26/10/2019 06:35

Already mentioned loads I likes, but as mentioned by a few others, As above so below is great

Also I spit on your grave is good

custardbear · 26/10/2019 06:59

I saw a film on Netflix this week called Eli which had a good twist in it too

brightonroc · 26/10/2019 07:01

Dead of Night.

Old, black and white film with stories within a story.

Absolutely terrifying!!

Myheadisamess31 · 26/10/2019 07:25

28 days and 28 weeks later also the ring. Freddie crouger used to scare the life out if me too

Carrotcakeforbreakfast · 26/10/2019 10:24

Jeepers Creepers terrified me until you saw the thing that was chasing them. Up until that point I found it almost unbearable and was ready to leave the cinema.

The strangers and more particularly the second one.

And there was one with whatshisface from transformers, I think the film was called Disturbia or suburbia?
It really creeped me out as at it something that could happen..
I don't think it helped that my neighbour at the time gave me the utter creeps.

FionaOgre · 26/10/2019 11:09

I love REC, the Spanish film about people trapped in an apartment building with a creature that infects others. Zombie or vampire. I can't recall. There was an American version made called Quarantine but it was a slightly poorer imitation.

SmellMySmellbow · 26/10/2019 11:11

@IceniSky oh god yeah, Mum and Dad is utterly horrific. Friend was in a film with the actor who played 'dad' and I could barely watch it.

Ylfa · 26/10/2019 11:11

Trying to watch Midsommar - this is the THIRD time of getting as far as the opening credits and realising my brain has been somewhere else entirely! Those of you who have seen it - how important is that first part (something about someone with bipolar sending some suicidal type messages?) and is the rest of the film more interesting?

@FenellaVelour I was trying to remember Outlast! I downloaded it but about twenty minutes was enough for me. I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Probably headphones are not a good idea!

Try Alien: Isolation as well. I’ve got to a certain point after a lot of pauses and now can’t get past it (coz I’m rubbish!) but god, the fear factor in that.

I’m going to bust out Silent Hill this week as I’m on annual leave. I bought the special edition for Xbox and haven’t even opened it...

Ponoka7 · 26/10/2019 13:50

@nononever
"My husband has never seen Wolf Creek… he wants to watch it tonight"

The television series was good as well.

bluetue · 26/10/2019 14:57

The banshee chapter!!!!! Shit me up so badly.

Lake mungo as well, extremely creepy!!

IceniSky · 26/10/2019 16:17

@SmellMySmellbow not many people seemed to have watched it. Disturbed me for for a long time.

4dogs · 26/10/2019 17:19

If you like supernatural horror Marianne is pretty good, it’s on Amazon.

RobertSmithdoesmyhair · 26/10/2019 17:24

Blair Witch
Seven

RainbowAlicorn · 26/10/2019 17:38

I think it really depends on what type if horro you find scary.
Personally the Babbadook terrified me and actually kept me up at night for a couple of weeks after watching (which is rare for me). I also found The Clinic quite disturbing.

GaaaaarlicBread · 26/10/2019 17:44

Strangers really got to me , and the first insidious was good . I love a good scary film and not easily scared but when I watched strangers at the cinema that got me !
Following for some film ideas of my own - so thank you for this thread x

BettyCrockaShit · 26/10/2019 17:59

God almighty, DP and I watched Hereditary last night (by the guy who did Midsommar). I don't usually scare easily, but bloody. HELL.

Ylfa · 26/10/2019 18:02

🙈 I relive it quite often, just the part where he’s sitting in the car looking in the rear view then slowly drives away 🙈🙈🙈

I just don’t understand why the ending couldn’t be as strong as that scene?

King Kong.

No, only joking!

The 1971 film 'Duel' - not a horror film but an American road thriller film, and Steven Spielberg's directional debut.
I find it pretty intense because it's something that COULD happen ...
