Or any terrifying TV shows would also be good. Thanks in advance!

A Quiet Place with Emily Blunt -truly terrifying

FenellaVelour · 25/10/2019 21:22

@ActualHornist. If you really want to be terrified, get yourself a console and play Silent Hill 2 grin I had that game for over a year before I could get more than ten minutes in. It’s truly scary. Not just jump scares either which are so lazy.

Totally agree, Silent Hill 2 was really tense and scary, and oddly emotional in places. Then I played the third one in the dark and nearly had kittens at the part with the recording of someone singing Happy Birthday in the freakiest voice.

I was also so scared I screamed aloud (never happens) playing Outlast in the dark with headphones on, but the problem with that game is you get used to the tension so it loses its power. Silent Hill 2 had a proper story, and is still one of my favourite video games ever.

No film has come close.

The happening- nightmares galore!

The happening- nightmares galore!

Acting nightmares you mean? That's a truly dreadful film.

gamerchick · 25/10/2019 21:45

I quite enjoyed the happening. I liked the idea of it Grin

I do agree that playing games is the next level from films as you're the one making making your character enter that room or whatever knowing there's something in there. Might explain why films can leave you cold unless they have a special something other than effects.

Witchinghour1 · 25/10/2019 21:47

Lol,yes you’re right! I have a very low horror threshold and even invasion of the body snatchers made me not sleep for weeks. Also was terrified by urban legend too!

CeefaCasperTheFriendlyGhost · 25/10/2019 21:49

Another vote here for Salem's lot. Must have watched it when I was about 8 in the 80s and, yep, the vampire scratching at the window with the fog and the vampire in the rocking chair....Couldn't get it out of my head for a long time afterwards.

I stupidly searched for it on youtube recently and it's still horrible. But at least now I don't think a vampire is going to come scratching at my window whispering, "Let me in....let me in.."

Jonsnowsghost · 25/10/2019 22:07

@BanginChoons no, I love Shutter though! Not particularly scary but I love the end.

@Weston14 I also like creep, I have it on DVD so re watch from time to time.

Another vote for Eden lake. Showed my ex and he was so disturbed he couldn't sleep, the end is just so grim.

And I'm so happy to see the love for It follows, it's one of my favourite films but no one I speak to has ever heard of it.

I'm currently watching The Woman in Black 😬

HasThisSoddingNameGoneToo · 25/10/2019 22:09

The Conjuring and The Conjuring 2 absolutely shat me up.

Aprillygirl · 25/10/2019 22:40

I can’t remember the last real good horror I watched so am shamelessly placemarking for some recommendations.

Bunnyfuller · 25/10/2019 22:42

Saving to keep reading!

Savingforarainyday · 25/10/2019 22:47

@nilcarborundum

Me too!!!!!!!!

Tellmetruth4 · 25/10/2019 22:51

The Others with Nicole Kidman.

Sgtmajormummy · 25/10/2019 22:55

@Trewser If you have Amazon Prime you can watch a lot of TV series free of charge. Including The Terror Series 1 which I binge-watched this week.

I’m still slightly freaked out, not so much by the “monster horror” as by man’s inhumanity to man.
Excellent acting, CGI, costumes and props.

wattytanker · 25/10/2019 23:26

The Ring. The original Japanese one. Halloween Shock

montysma1 · 26/10/2019 00:25

Forty Days of Night.
Vampires worry me.

Me150267 · 26/10/2019 00:59

Silent Hill (film) freaked me out. Eden Lake and Wolf Creek made me nauseous too realistic. Love Jeepers Creepers and 30 Days Of Night

Redlioness123 · 26/10/2019 01:09

Wolf Creek fans, there was a TV version on the foX channel, 2 series'....Series 1 was a few years ago and was ok but Series 2 was fantastic and on last year at some point. It stars the same actor as the killer which is what makes it so worthwhile to watch

I would echo a lot of the other suggestions - Strangers (not the sequel though), The Shining - I found terrifying, the exorcism of Emily rose, The Skeleton Key, Us, Amityville Horror (the one starring Ryan Reynolds), PA2

icecream509 · 26/10/2019 01:25

Insidious
The conjuring very scary
Annabelle

Neveam · 26/10/2019 01:38

I don't really get scared by films but the first Insidious was a bit freaky and the first Woman in Black. A bit. It kinda ruined it for me though having Daniel Radcliffe in it! I like some found footage films better like the Paranormal Activity 1, 2, 3, 4... Maybe Jabberwocky? Think that's how they spelt it.
I've watched a load as we've got Now TV, they've all been on there.

xsquared · 26/10/2019 01:38

I saw a short clip of Hell Raiser. Don't ever want to watch the full film after that.

Neveam · 26/10/2019 01:53

Jabberwocky? I meant Babadook 🤣

thatgoesinthere · 26/10/2019 02:05

Kairo (Japan) - So intense when I watched it many years ago. I had to turn it off, change my trousers and continue it the best evening. Just one of the scariest things I've ever watched.
Shutter (Thailand)
The Night of The Hunter
The Changeling
A Tale of Two Sisters (Korea)
Kill List
The VVitch
The Tunnel
Absentia
Session 9

TV shows,

Channel Zero
Masters of horror ( Imprint, Cigarette Burns)

Sinister and Martyrs are also great shouts, particularly Sinister as I was so surprised to watch a mainstream horror that unsettled me like that. Fantastic sound design.

justinhawkinsnavalfluff · 26/10/2019 02:54

The road v scary

Feilin · 26/10/2019 04:18

Vague memory of a black and white film if anyone can help. Boy and girl sent off to live with a man who it transpires wants to kill them so he can live longer (I think it mightve been to do with their hearts?) And for some reason it has a ukele in it I dont know why that sticks in my mind . Id love to know the name of it as it creeped me out .
