If you haven't already?

Also, encourage your older teenagers to register for the first time.

Boris has proposed election for December!

JadeDragon23 · 24/10/2019 17:22

Nope.

For the first time ever, I no longer give a shit. Until there’s a radical overhaul of UK politics in general I’d rather save my energy 🤷🏻‍♀️

DeadAliveDead · 24/10/2019 17:24

Completely agree @JadeDragon23

Lemmywinks · 24/10/2019 17:25

Nope none of them are even worth voting for anymore so im staying out of it my house is now a politics free zone

Limensoda · 24/10/2019 17:29

YANBU.
Politics affects all of us. I get sick of hearing people, who have told me they don't vote, moaning about wages, lack of housing and other political issues.
Get off your arse and vote or shut up.

Lemmywinks · 24/10/2019 18:41

If voting actually made a difference to any of those things we'd have noticed a difference by now no ? Why don't you pull your head out of your ass and realise people have been living like this since Tony Blair with no change if anything its gotten worse over the years so excuse us for niy having much faith anymore Hmm pretty hard to have faith with a racist Labour party and the Tories only care about themselves and the top 1% the Greens are about as much use as a chocolate teapot and can't even take themselves seriously as a party and the Lib Dems don't seem to have a clue what they even stand for these days

ilovesooty · 24/10/2019 18:54

Sometimes i think voting voting should be compulsory. At other times my belief in universal suffrage is sorely tested.

CileyMayRhinovirus · 24/10/2019 18:57

If voting made a difference they'd have made it illegal.

I think that's the quote.

DGRossetti · 24/10/2019 19:01

If voting made a difference they'd have made it illegal.

I think that's the quote.

Also title of an (excellent, IMHO) book by Ken Livingstone from the 1980s.

Bluetac19 · 24/10/2019 19:02

People died to give you the vote. Sometimes that is to vote for the least worst. You owe it to them to vote and I am disgusted with people who don't.

MrsMaiselsMuff · 24/10/2019 19:03

For those that do want change, voting is no longer enough. Get out and campaign! People like Lemmy need facts, not the bollocks the mainstream media is feeding them.

(Lemmy, there's half a million people in the Labour Party, when you take such a massive number of people there will unfortunately be some with unacceptable views. That does not make the whole party racist, just a very small minority. You'll find similar problems in all parties, and statistically racism and xenophobia is far more prevalent amongst the far right than the left).

BoneyBackJefferson · 24/10/2019 19:07

People died to give you the vote.

Emotional blackmail always a proud go to response

Sometimes that is to vote for the least worst.

It really isn't, it just ratifies a poor system and rubbish policies.

You owe it to them to vote

If we "owe" them anything, its to try and change the system in to something that is better.

GingersAreLush · 24/10/2019 19:08

Definitely always worth voting even if you’re voting for the least cunty (which I will be doing) voting is so important- nothing will ever get better if we all stop bothering. However, I do totally understand why some people are so fed up with it all they’re saying they won’t bother. The whole fucking mess is pushing me over the edge at times.

SabineUndine · 24/10/2019 19:11

I'm with Bluetac. Don't let other people decide for you.

LakieLady · 24/10/2019 19:12

Get off your arse and vote or shut up.

I'm with you on that, @Limensoda.

And for anyone who may be busy, or away, or simply can't be arsed to go to the polling station, you can download the postal vote application here
www.gov.uk/government/publications/apply-for-a-postal-vote .

Bluetac19 · 24/10/2019 19:15

Boney - So what are you doing to change things. Would it make a difference if then nobody voted for those changes? It's not emotional blackmail when our voting history is completely true. People DID die to allow women to vote. Nothing emotinal blackmail related about that.

CileyMayRhinovirus · 24/10/2019 19:15

Oh I'm going to vote. But everything I have voted for in my Adult life has gone the opposite way than I voted so it does seem a bit pointless really.

LakieLady · 24/10/2019 19:17

People died to give you the vote. Sometimes that is to vote for the least worst. You owe it to them to vote and I am disgusted with people who don't.

Quite.

I think voting should be compulsory. There could be a "none of the above" box for those who really can't face voting for what they consider to be the least bad option.

Mind you, I'm of an age where I was able to vote for proper Labour governments, not the LabourLite of the Blair-Brown years. I can remember when it made a difference.

BoneyBackJefferson · 24/10/2019 19:19

Bluetac19

I campaign, write to MPs etc. And I always vote.

and yes it is emotional blackmail.

Make an argument for voting based on what is happening now (and there are many) rather than going for an emotional plug.

Rivergreen · 24/10/2019 19:20

I am usually 100% a "you owe it to those who suffered to at least turn up an vote" person. But I have to admit that my heart sinks when I think of a general election.

None of the mainstream parties reflect my (not at all extreme!) views. I used to be a member of the Labour Party until a few months ago, but cannot honestly tell you what they stand for anymore, other than point scoring. The Tory's have a very different image for the country than me and the Lib Dems seem so focused on thwarting Brexit at all costs that I can't vote that way either (even though I voted remain) Sad

And I can't help thinking the last thing we need right now is more division, point scoring, soundbite debates and economic uncertainty. Sad Sad

june2007 · 24/10/2019 19:22

One issue with Brexit is the fact soo many din,t vote.

speakout · 24/10/2019 19:23

I am registered, but for the first time in years I am thinking about not voting.
I have no idea who to vote for. In previous years it has been easy.
This time uimpossible.
My mark would be a stab in the dark and meaningless.

MuthaFunka61 · 24/10/2019 19:24

I'm undecided whether to write 'non of the above' or hold my nose and tactically vote Labour just to get rid of the tories. I still have this hope that Labour will be more receptive to lobbying, I know our current MP (tory) just regurgitates the party line and I'd rather I was eaten by a swamp monster than vote for them.

Alsohuman · 24/10/2019 19:27

There’s no way I couldn’t vote. My grandma would haunt me if I didn’t. I think it should be compulsory too.

StarbucksSmarterSister · 24/10/2019 19:27

My grandmothers were 40 and 47 respectively when they finally got the vote. I will definitely be voting.

RedDiamond · 24/10/2019 19:30

speakout this election, should it go ahead, it will, unfortunately, be based on what most think of this Brexit debacle. Vote and make yourself heard. I think we are all pissed off by the behaviour of all MP's so vote for the MP you think will make a difference in YOUR life.
