If you haven't already?

Also, encourage your older teenagers to register for the first time.

Boris has proposed election for December!

Boney - what is emotional blackmail about it? It's fact.

As for those who say they don't know who to vote for, do some research. It's too important to be a bystander.

Bluetac19 · 24/10/2019 19:38
  • so don't be a bystander
mumwon · 24/10/2019 19:43

dh says as we never get the candidate we vote for - perhaps I should vote for the one I don't as they wont get in - (nb we actually vote a bit differently but not Conservative) If you knew my local mp … let me put it this way - the he isn't popular with NHS … & if you ask him for help - he never seems to have surgeries in our town & he always quotes the party line & doesn't seem to read what you have requested … so yes, regardless, both dh & I will vote

RolytheRhino · 24/10/2019 19:44

Usually we get told to register to vote before every election, so I presume registering now wouldn't do anything, they don't seem to carry them forward from one election to the next. Besides, they fine you of you don't do it, so where I live, at least, the reminder seems somewhat unnecessary.

BoneyBackJefferson · 24/10/2019 19:53

Bluetac19

It is a fact but it doesn't stop it being used to coerce someone in to doing something that they don't want to do.

And yes voting is important, but so is voting with your conscience and policies that you support.

speakout · 24/10/2019 20:01

RedDiamond

Really not sure what that means though.

I live in Scotland. Situation is very complex.

BrassTactical · 24/10/2019 20:04

I’m registered, but I don’t have anyone to vote for!

Can’t vote Tory ever again, don’t want Corbyn to destroy the country. Won’t vote ideological unrealistic Green or any of the fascist parties. LibDems I suppose I could look at but feels pointless.

So who???

OverByYer · 24/10/2019 20:09

Need to register son to be able to vote by proxy before he heads to NZ

Bluetac19 · 24/10/2019 20:15

Boney - That's your opinion. I disagree.

Brass - You aren't voting for a leader e.g. Corbyn. You're voting for a party.

WrongKindOfFace · 24/10/2019 20:17

I will be voting. Yes, it’s a fucking shit show at present, but i’d rather my very competent MP was reselected (assuming the wankers don’t deselect them over bloody brexit) than some cock from the one trick pony brexit party got in.

WrongKindOfFace · 24/10/2019 20:18

That said, I wish Corbyn would do the decent thing and resign. He’s not going to win an election.

MrsApplepants · 24/10/2019 20:19

I cannot trust any of the current parties to represent me. There is no one I want to win. The system is broken.

Lockheart · 24/10/2019 20:24

Did you know that in the 2015 general election, more people abstained from voting than those who voted for the conservative party? If the non-voters had a political party they'd be far and away the majority party

Imagine how different the political landscape could be if everyone voted, or at least spoilt their ballot if they truly can't choose who to vote for.

The next time you say your vote won't make a difference, remember there's millions of people in this country thinking the same thing...

RedDiamond · 24/10/2019 20:24

Scotland is a different matter. Do you want another referendum in order for Scotland to be able to leave the UK and stay in the EU?

Do you wish to remain a part of the Eu? If so, vote for SNP who want to remain in the EU and want to depart from the rest of the UK.

Personally I think Nicola Sturgeon has only one tune and it is wrong and it HAS not been thought through. I am Scottish by the way in case you wondered.

Hefzi · 24/10/2019 20:25

It's quite hard now not to engage - every address gets a letter every year asking for confirmations and/or changes to the register. Hmm

daisychain01 · 24/10/2019 20:27

For the first time ever, I no longer give a shit. Until there’s a radical overhaul of UK politics in general I’d rather save my energy

Would you consider spoiling your ballot paper?

A lot of people feel like you at the moment, me included, but it's worth registering so if you change your mind, you keep your options open, even if you go along and put a thick red line through the whole bloody lot of em. It gives a strong message.

I wish they would report on number of spoilt ballot papers!

SusieOwl4 · 24/10/2019 20:35

if you are concerned about Brexit then you have 1) continue trying to get out - conservatives -2 )revoke article 50 and remain - lib dems - 3) absolutely not a clue - more delay more indecision - Labour ( confirmed by an ex labour MP)

if you are bored to tears with Brexit then study the manifestos when they come out .

But please vote - there are many places in the world where the vote would change lives and personally I really think it is so important. Its your chance to turf out your MP if you think he /she has let you down on Brexit if nothing else.

If you don't vote never moan about political decisions again.

Normandy144 · 24/10/2019 20:36

I'll definitely be voting. This election is all about Brexit and I will be voting for lib dems to register my dissatisfaction with Brexit and wish to remain. If the Tories win with a big majority then we are just marching towards Brexit with no deal.

BrassTactical · 24/10/2019 20:36

Bluetac well That’s true but I can’t vote for a party whose leader I abhor.

So while technically true unless he stands down they would never get my vote.

SusieOwl4 · 24/10/2019 20:37

I am not sure the lib dems would be a wasted vote this time at least their Brexit stance is 100% clear . If you are a remainer then you don't have any other choice to make your voice heard?

SusieOwl4 · 24/10/2019 20:40

@BrassTactical sadly as an ex labour voter I agree with you - I know its the party but some of their proposals are unworkable and unaffordable and I cant bring myself to vote for them while he is the leader . IMO of course .

speakout · 24/10/2019 20:40

RedDiamond

I have been an SNP voter in the past.
Now that I see the shitstorm that Brexit has caused I am not sure I want to see a similar circus if Scotland break from the UK.
I want to remain part of Europe. I would like to stay within a UK that sees every part of his country with a fair voice and representation.
If that is not possible than a separate Scotland within a European framework would have to be an option.
I am disillusioned and confused.

Blueoasis · 24/10/2019 20:41

Well if you don't vote, then you have no right to complain as you could have changed the outcome. But you don't have to vote.

I think we should vote boris back in though. He's a terrible leader, yes. But it is his fault we are in this mess. He is trying to skip town and leave us on the wreckage with someone else getting the blame for his cock ups. He should be the target for complaints, no one else.

Plus, it's either him or Labour. The only other party that could logically stand a chance is lib dems and that will never happen. There aren't enough candidates standing for greens for them to win.

Windygate · 24/10/2019 20:44

Why, where's the point? I'm not a brexiter but democracy is dead in the UK.

Justanotherlurker · 24/10/2019 20:48

One issue with Brexit is the fact soo many din,t vote.

One issue with thoughts like this is assuming those that didn't vote was going to vote in a way in which you approve.
