If you haven't already?

Also, encourage your older teenagers to register for the first time.

Boris has proposed election for December!

OP posts:
Figmentofmyimagination · 25/10/2019 09:01

Even if you can’t unseat them you can at least put the wind up them a bit by carving a hole in their enormous majority.

Figmentofmyimagination · 25/10/2019 09:02

And maybe Corbyn will be unseated by a Liberal Democrat in Islington!

Damntheman · 25/10/2019 09:42

Ugh I'm trying to register but they make it SO hard for people who live overseas. Having an extremely frustrating time of it at the moment with this election business.

As for not voting, I think that's shameful. Women fought and died to give us all the right to vote and you all should exercise it for as long as the government lets you (only 2 more years for me :( ). Don't know who to vote for? Then do your research and vote tactically to try to minimise future damage.

Dongdingdong · 25/10/2019 09:51

And maybe Corbyn will be unseated by a Liberal Democrat in Islington!

I would LOVE to see that! Grin

Xenia · 25/10/2019 09:53

yes do register to vote and it can be a good idea to take your children with you to see the process as that helps involve them and certainly with mine helped ensure they did vote when they were older (which is good even if at times some of them have voted to cancel my vote out).

Vote Conservative.
Every vote counts in keeping Corbyn out.

MuthaFunka61 · 25/10/2019 10:05

@LakieLady.
I feel for you and remember what the LibDems did last time they were voted in; decided to go into coalition with the tories which opened the door to this whole mess we're all in.

Good luck with the nose holding and remember to take a deep breath.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 25/10/2019 10:09

I'll be angrily spoiling my ballot. Never Tory anyway. LibDems don't know what women are. As for Labour, not that rabble of racist woman-haters either. The 'not all racists' doesn't wash when the leader is openly racist, the forums are a cesspit and the way Jewish women in the party are abused and threatened is criminal. And I'll never forget the attack on the women's meeting at their conference a few weeks ago. Not that it matters anyway - our invisible MP enjoys one of the safest seats in the UK.

I'd like Dawn Butler though, I think she's great
Dawn Butler thinks men go through the menopause.

LochJessMonster · 25/10/2019 10:10

Get off your arse and vote or shut up. I did. But apparently I voted wrong 3 years ago, so it doesn't count.

LochJessMonster · 25/10/2019 10:11

People died to give you the vote. Sometimes that is to vote for the least worst. You owe it to them to vote and I am disgusted with people who don't.

No, people died to give you the choice to vote.

littlepaddypaws · 25/10/2019 10:18

possibly a few thousand spoilt ballot papers, yes, that seems the way to go, it's hardly going to achieve anything is it ?

IveGotBillsTheyreMultiplying · 25/10/2019 10:26

This is depressing. I'm Shock

For those who won't vote, will you feel the same apathy if the economy dives and you have

less pay
no job
or no proper public services
very poor spending power abroad

or if a party in power intends to

make you pay to use healthcare
reduce workers' rights eg holiday/maternity pay
perpetuate a system where people starve on 'welfare' or turn to prostitution to survive

I can't believe people wouldn't care about things like that.

Cornettoninja · 25/10/2019 10:30

No, people died to give you the choice to vote

I agree.

Usually I’m a die-hard voter but this is a tough one, rock and a hard place spring to mind. I don’t even mind people spoiling their vote, I mean it’s a pretty meaningless gesture but spoiled votes are counted and parties will consider this a section of people to try to appeal to. We don’t have time for those games at the moment though.

I can only presume parties will campaign on offering brexit or a referendum so I will have to vote along those lines. In truth all the parties are terrible at the moment (hence why the country is a mess) but that’s the only issue that holds any real meaning at the moment. No party can possibly plan for any kind of manifesto promises given the whole structure is teetering at the moment.

QueenoftheBiscuitTin · 25/10/2019 10:32

It's shit that so many people suffered just so we would have the privilege of choosing the least shite person out of a pool of twats.

littlepaddypaws · 25/10/2019 10:40

queen you nailed it for me

SilverySurfer · 25/10/2019 10:46

Hefzi
It's quite hard now not to engage - every address gets a letter every year asking for confirmations and/or changes to the register. hmm

Exactly and did you really think we would have all forgotten without your reminder, OP? Hmm

littlepaddypaws · 25/10/2019 10:58

silvery op is trying to rally the troops that's all, but as being shown on here some of the troops don't care / not interested, that probably goes for a good proportion of the country too, and no, i haven't asked the great unwashed their opinion but i guess most people are fed up with the westminster lot for arsing about.

Limensoda · 25/10/2019 11:07

Vote Conservative.Every vote counts in keeping Corbyn out

And end up with Johnson?? No chance!

Moonmelodies · 25/10/2019 11:09

People also died trying to stop us having to vote, should they also be honoured 'because they died'.

Damntheman · 25/10/2019 11:32

No Moon, because they were the oppressors, not the oppressed. They weren't fighting for something great, they were being dicks.

theduchessstill · 25/10/2019 12:04

Will definitely be voting though undecided who atm. I'm in the constituency of a prominent remainer who left the Tories over Brexit and would love to vote that way despite probably disagreeing with her over pretty much everything else, but she's been great on this.

I've always voted Labour but don't want my vote to be seen as an endorsement of JC's leadership, which has been dire. Would like to vote LD or Green as both are clear anti-Brexit votes but their stance on women's rights is troubling and the same goes for Labour as well. For me that issue will have to come second to Brexit this time around though.

In my area it has to be one of the big two and, despite the way the media reports on areas like mine (leave constituency, not south east) the Labour share of the vote went up in 2017 and the UKIP share went down (Brexit party didn't exist then). Therefore I'm hopeful that the seat is safe from a strong leaver and the Tories, who will have to put up someone new and not sure if they have someone in place yet.

It's difficult, but I actually think it's good, in a way, that we're all having to put some thought in for once and I'm shocked at some of these cba replies, whatever their reasons. I went to an exhibition about the Peterloo massacre in the summer and was moved to tears. There's no way I wouldn't vote.

I also don't really understand people saying all MPs have shown themselves to be career-obsessed and self-serving over the last few years. Some have, but there are a significant number who are going against what the majority in their constituency voted for because they believe/ know it's best for the area and the country as a whole. Although Labour have been a bit shit, I do think they have been trying to push for something that delivers some form of Brexit and doesn't wreck the economy and therefore people's lives. Yes,it's been woolly but I believe a lot of MPs are working really hard to square a circle and I think there are many to be admired in how they have conducted themselves and refused to be bullied by an over-zealous executive.

Xenia · 25/10/2019 15:41

Anyone is doubt about their vote - vote conservative. It makes sense. It will keep Corbyn out with his plan almost to confiscate you pensoin fund's shareholdings with the employee trust plan and the nationalisating plans, his tax increases and his very unclear policy on Brexit.

Alsohuman · 25/10/2019 15:52

Out of order @Xenia. It’s not on to electioneer like that.

Cornettoninja · 25/10/2019 16:13

Rofl - so the conservatives will protect my pension and have crystal clear, guaranteed tax policies? none of the parties can actually promise dick all at the moment - our future/economy are completely up in the air anyone saying anything else is a fantasist/liar/deluded.

Jog on.

dadshere · 25/10/2019 16:23

I have been waiting for years for this. The chance to vote for a truy socialist government, with a truly great leader. Come election day this country will be red!

Limensoda · 25/10/2019 16:28

Anyone is doubt about their vote - vote conservative. It makes sense

It's makes no sense. They are a rabble of self serving hypocrites who have created poverty, homelessness and a massive increase in food bank need.
They've forced austerity on us whilst increasing the national debt by record amounts.
They've cut police numbers, nhs staff numbers, closed police and fire stations...rolled out the ridiculous Universal credit...and screwed up millions of lives.
