Brexit postponed

AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

I have to say although I respect Corbyn as a person and backbencher, I do think hea pretty much singlehandedly responsible for:
A) Another generation of Tory government and
B) The Remain fight dying

We needed a strong, watertight opposition to relentlessly and savagely push through a second referendum and we didn't get it. JC allowed his own personal politics to trump those of his party, and that I find unforgivable.

ExecutiveFiat · 22/10/2019 18:50

The labour members voting for this deal are an absolute disgrace. I hope they are going to be deselected.

Alsohuman · 22/10/2019 19:01

I seriously don’t believe that Brexiteers like mummmy will vote Tory. There will be a huge split on the right too - imagine how Farage will clean up in a GE after the Tories’ performance over the last 40 months with still no Brexit.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 22/10/2019 19:02

It's not just Corbyn. We had people (women a lot) leaving Labour due to bullying. And well. Corbyn himself is not exactly a remain guy, is he...

mummmy2017 · 22/10/2019 19:03

Your having a laugh.
Boris is the only person who can get us out.
Dream on , we will be leaving.

FloatingObject · 22/10/2019 19:06

I think UKIP is still a dirty word for many so don't think they'll clean up. The papers are spinning it like the EU are the ones thwarting it. The Tories have given the people the referendum they wanted and are ploughing on with Brexit stuff despite the "evil EU". That's how it will be presented. I reckon the Tories are rock solid.

Personally I'll be voting labour si as not to split the vote. But that's literally the only reason. I want JC gone

Parker231 · 22/10/2019 19:07

@mummy2017 - do you accept that some of us are seriously concerned about how we will negatively be affected by Brexit. Do you have friends or family working in industries where their jobs are now at risk?

Mamamia456 · 22/10/2019 19:12

BertrandRussell - If you really don't know why people voted leave, then where have you been hiding for the last 3 years?

I think you do know and you're just being goady.

A quick Google will tell you that among the main reasons were sovereignty, immigration and bureaucracy.

mummmy2017 · 22/10/2019 19:13

The horse has bolted.
You can't catch it.
Wrap your head around a big Tory majority and Boris being able to do as he pleases.
Parliament have screwed the voters, we know it, labour can not be trusted.
The silent majority that voted DC in, will vote Boris in. The stench of betrayal has caused you to lose.

Alsohuman · 22/10/2019 19:16

It’s not UKIP any more. The Brexit Party took a huge number of votes in the EU election.

TequilaPilates · 22/10/2019 19:18

I’ve been asking people for 3 years to explain to me why the EU is so bad, but no one does.

Yes they do. I've seen lots of posts on here listing reasons, it's just that you don't like the reasons. Doesn't change the fact that they are reasons though.

Jellykat · 22/10/2019 19:24

Looks like your question isn't going to be answered Parker..

mummmy2017 · 22/10/2019 19:30

Parker has her worries, I can acknowledge that, and see it upsets you.
However I refuse to give up my one and only chance to leave a club I feel is curpt.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 22/10/2019 19:45

Well I hope that leave voters are ready to fund all that things EU funded... From development to projects helping people to gain some qualifications, work, help to start small business, then technology and research, social mobility projects, theaters, sports. I could go on. We all know that the funding will not come from UK gov in a future...

Jellykat · 22/10/2019 20:03

I respect your opinion mummmy, but as Parker asked..do you personally know anyone whose job or business will be in serious jeopardy because of Brexit?

bellinisurge · 22/10/2019 20:14

Mummmy, your programme needs to update its spellcheck function.

mummmy2017 · 22/10/2019 20:18

Yes, I know people it effects, some have gained, some have lost.
But I have to take the only chance ever to leave.

Alsohuman · 22/10/2019 20:24

Nobody’s gained or lost yet. Anyway we’re not going to be out by 31st so all’s not yet lost.

Parker231 · 22/10/2019 20:26

Who has gained other than people like JRM with his investment funds?

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 22/10/2019 20:51

The Tories are comfortably ahead in the polls

Like it or not Boris Johnson’s push it through parliament appeals to many - hebis working at getting the job done is what I am hearing over and over again some of this rhetoric in social circle and more so at work

If we have an election the Tories are likely to win with a majority

Labour have officially supported standing by the vote until very recently that leads to them more likely to loose voters to Brexit party in some of their safe seats

Libdems are just too much in the background

Alsohuman · 22/10/2019 22:47

The Tories were ahead enough in the polls in 2017 for May to believe she was going to get a landslide. That went well.

DoctorTwo · 22/10/2019 22:48

Johnson and his party of lying thieving bastards want a GE which goes against the FTPA. I hope the opposition make him stick to the act so the Tories have to own their shitshow.

frumpety · 23/10/2019 07:27

So when do we hear if the EU have given the extension ? When is the earliest a GE could be held if Boris gets his way ?

BertrandRussell · 23/10/2019 08:13

“ A quick Google will tell you that among the main reasons were sovereignty, immigration and bureaucracy.”
Yes- obviously I know those are the headlines. But none of those reasons make sense beyond the headline. If you ask rhe crucial “How will your life be better?” question, there is never an answer.

BowermansNose · 23/10/2019 08:41

The reality of Brexit is that it will reduce sovereignty, only change the source of immigration, and increase bureaucracy. It goes directly against those three big headline reasons
