Brexit postponed

AIBU to worry that the (almost certain) delay in Brexit will give rise to civil unrest?

So how are you going to personally stop Brexit.
Because I see no way to reverse it.

historysock · 21/10/2019 15:17

I don't think civil unrest will arise just yet. It will be If and when there are shortages or huge price rises that people will become outraged and riot.

Perhaps people such as the man I heard on a Radio phone in this morning stating with confidence 'Europe need us more than we need them trade wise' and then being unable to say what exactly they 'need' from us that they can't get from somewhere else.

I think it's when those kind of people realise how much they have been lied to and their actual lives are affected that things might turn ugly.

Or alternatively if there is some kind of second vote, because then the leavers will kick off about democracy (again ignoring the fact that they voted for something that was undefined and so couldn't possibly have been informed about in the way they all seem to claim to be).

Not heard of revoking Article 50 then?

bellinisurge · 21/10/2019 15:19

Mummy is still a stranger to the good old British apostrophe in "you're".

😂😂

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 15:20

Revoke is now a distant memory.

derxa · 21/10/2019 15:23

mummmy You're almost as good as claig but you'll have to work harder Grin

theunknownknown · 21/10/2019 15:23

Mummy. You don’t want to reverse it remember. You’re happy.
Good luck Mummy and family. I hope you are right and the sunny uplands are aplenty and we all get rainbow coloured unicorns.
But just in case we don’t, I hope you do the honourable thing Mummy and stand up to take the hits first. I won’t feel sorry for you though.
Somehow I doubt you will. Somehow I doubt you have the ability to join the dots and link your misfortunes to your leave vote. I wonder who you will scapegoat for your own ignorance and stupidity at that point.
Actually. I do think you are just being goady. Because no one can be this thick.
I’m off.

Alsohuman · 21/10/2019 15:27

No, revoke is a distinct possibility.

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 15:28

And are you not goading me in saying I should apologise, that I need to should the blame.
I am watching us decide between deal and no deal.

Roussette · 21/10/2019 15:39

You're almost as good as claig but you'll have to work harder

derxa good ole Claig, I'd forgotten him! Grin Grin

timshelthechoice · 21/10/2019 16:02

Oh, god, claig! Grin

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 16:17

Your whole case rests on the EU giving you a delay to do what, repeat this and ask for another delay, at some point their answer has to be No

Parker231 · 21/10/2019 16:43

I don’t care how long the delays take so long as we aren’t leaving on the deal that Boris has currently agreed. I still want a revoke. In the long run everyone will see what we enjoy now is the best deal but if we have to leave let’s at least try and negotiate something decent which doesn’t destroy our economy, businesses and individuals.

DarkAtEndOfUk · 21/10/2019 16:50

I think once we finally leave there will be a bounce back, that as we are worth so much in purchasing power, the worse case will not happen. Much as happened when we voted.

What purchasing power do you have mummmy?? You've been telling us you're a single mum who's angry at having no opportunities and no purchasing power.
As for the insults around the Remain campaigns - oh believe me I'm bloody furious about how ineffective they were and Cameron is someone I'd like to string up. It's almost as if those at the top wanted no option isn't it. And you, and people like you, gave them exactly what they wanted. When things hit the fan, are you going to be asking people like me for help?

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 16:54

I buy food, just like you do.
Are you saying worldwide no one will want to supply us anything.
That no one will bank with us.

timshelthechoice · 21/10/2019 17:00

Are you saying worldwide no one will want to supply us anything.
That no one will bank with us.

No one is, but they will do so on the terms they offer and we will have no choice but to take it or leave it because we do not have any bargaining power (our currency is devalued) and so the price of all those things, all of it, will be higher, much, much higher.

Parker231 · 21/10/2019 17:03

New deals will be on the other countries terms as we no longer have preferential terms. Most countries already have ‘most favoured status’ terms in place with the EU so are prohibited from giving the UK anything better.

DarkAtEndOfUk · 21/10/2019 17:05

What will you pay for it mummmy? With what?

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 17:12

What you are saying is your opinion and not fact.
Can you back this up with countries and proof of the deals.

pointythings · 21/10/2019 17:18

mummmy WTO rules on favoured nation status are well documented and can be found with a bit of Googling. They are not opinion, they are fact. Why don't you do a bit of actual research instead of wanting to be spoonfed?

DarkAtEndOfUk · 21/10/2019 17:19

No, mummmy, that other countries' trade deals with the EU have a 'most favoured status' clause in them is fact, not opinion. The size of the EU means they can ask for that.

I'm not sure what you would accept as proof, but here's a magazine article that seems to explain the problem quite well www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/the-most-important-brexit-detail-youve-never-heard-of

mummmy2017 · 21/10/2019 17:28

That article says we will be flooded with cheap food.
But that basically if your rich you can buy better quality. I think you will find that already happens.

ListeningQuietly · 21/10/2019 17:29

..

bellinisurge · 21/10/2019 17:33

Seriously, don't waste your time. The cult is strong in this one.

SafetyAdvice0FeedWhenAgitated · 21/10/2019 17:34

"I may end up eating cancerous untested food, but it's well worth it. Cause Brexit."

I wish to be so stupid. Because stupid don't see stupid and thus have no reason for high blood pressure 🙄

Countries fight to have a good quality of food. People in that countries fight for it. But nooooo. Mummy will happily eat crap and let people eat crap "cause emotions"
Fuck me.
