‘Inspirational’ quotes that you actually quite like?

I’m sure there was a thread about this not too long ago but I can’t find it.

A lot of the ‘inspirational’ quotes I see I think are fairly awful, but I came across this one the other day that I did like:

‘Be the star of your own story.’

So, AIBU to say there are some quite nice inspirational quotes or are they all a load of rubbish?!

From that great philosopher Homer Simpson:

"It’s so simple to be wise… just think of something stupid to say and then don’t say it.“

"Marge it takes two to lie. One to lie and one to listen."

this from Yeats:
One should say before sleeping: I have lived many lives. I have been a slave and a prince. Many a beloved has sat upon my knee and I have sat upon the knees of many a beloved. Everything that has been shall be again.

and from Buffy
The hardest thing to do in this world is to live in it. Be brave. Live

Mine is

"It's a bad day, not a bad life ". My DD used this to help her when she had dark days. I'm going to get it framed for her wall.

“Why are you stingy with yourselves? Why are you holding back? What are you saving for - for another time? There are no other times, there is only now, right now.” - George Balanchine

“Don’t be afraid to go out on a limb, that’s where the fruit is.”

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got.”

Don’t judge people by your own standards.

Love these.

I like- "if you don't love yourself, how the hell do you expect to love somebody else?".

Goldensummer · 20/10/2019 16:58

These are all lovely..

"It's not who you are that holds you back, it's who you think you're not"

I've lead a challenging life so far, and things that have happened to me, made me feel worthless and that I would never amount to much. That quote resonates with me and when I'm having a rough time I think of it and power forward (cheesy I know).

You can’t change what other people do. You can only change what you do.

YeOldeTrout · 21/10/2019 20:01

These meant a lot when I was young:
Happiness is wanting what you have not having what you want.
&
Life is what happens when you're making other plans.

I tell my kids a lot:
Just because it's difficult is not a reason to not do it.
Every day is a fresh start
Problems have solutions

I'm recently enamoured with
Worrying just means you suffer twice.

Some great quotes about failure here. I think this is the one I wanted
Failure is part of the process of success -RT Kiyosaki

Good thread! My cousin is always mocking inspirational quotes on fb but there were a few that spoke to me at the right time.

Love "what you think of me is none of my business". "Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent". And just read "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take".

This is exactly the wisdom i need to remind myself of.

ethelfleda · 21/10/2019 20:52

I doubt I can add anything to this so just place marking!

I just remembered one!

I have to confess to not having read the whole thread but my favourite is from Maya Angelou 'Do your best and when you know better, do better'. I found it particularly relevant as a new Grandparent and tried to keep an open mind about the many changes in parenting advice since my day.

What's important is not how fast you go, but that you're headed in the right direction
I heard it quite often while living abroad in my twenties and still find it reassuring.
