I’m sure there was a thread about this not too long ago but I can’t find it.

A lot of the ‘inspirational’ quotes I see I think are fairly awful, but I came across this one the other day that I did like:

‘Be the star of your own story.’

So, AIBU to say there are some quite nice inspirational quotes or are they all a load of rubbish?!

Þetta (thetta) reddast is a really popular Icelandic saying. It translates as it will all be OK in the end/it will work itself out.

The one that really brought me up sharp when I first heard it was:

Hating someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.

Some beautiful ones here though. I’d forgotten two of the Shakespeare ones up thread, thanks for those.

just remembered my dad's favourite saying: big bugs have little bugs upon their backs to bite them, and little bugs have littler bugs & so on et infinitum ( about bureaucracy especially the forces Grin)

Not a quote as such but I find the words of a lot of hymns inspiring. For example:

Drop Thy still dews of quietness
Till all our strivings cease
Take from our souls the strain and stress
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

When everything feels like an uphill struggle, just think of the view from the top.

And everything happens for a reason, you may not understand it at the time but everything has a way of working it’s self out.

A couple more I like:

‘Be who you want to be, not what others want to see.’
‘When you want to give up, remember why you started.’

I like the one that says something along the lines of "remember when all you wanted were the things you have now" - it's quite nice I think!

I think this one is:

“Don’t waste time wishing for what you have not, when what you have now was once all you ever longed for.”

I love it too, and one of the few I can remember.

Also like:

“Remember the lesson, not the mistake.”

Don't listen to what people say about you. A lion doesn't look back when small dogs bark.

Similar to... a lion doesn't concern itself with the opinions of sheep.

Success doesn't come from what you do when occasionally but what you do consistently.

Keep doing what you're doing. We are all being judged by someone who isn't close to having their shit together.

I like the serenity prayer (I have never been in AA or anything but have heard it ok tv and in films)

I also liked, from a tv show but can’t remember which: “If we’re all still alive, it’s just a bad day.”

This too shall pass.

Oh and this one... it’s sad but beautiful:

‘Grief, I’ve learned, is really just love. It’s all the love you want to give, but cannot. All of that unspent love gathers in the corners of your eyes, the lump in your throat and in that hollow part of your chest. Grief is just love with no place to go.’

It’s not exactly inspiring but I think it’s lovely and one I try to remember when thinking about loved ones no longer with me.
