I’m sure there was a thread about this not too long ago but I can’t find it.

A lot of the ‘inspirational’ quotes I see I think are fairly awful, but I came across this one the other day that I did like:

‘Be the star of your own story.’

So, AIBU to say there are some quite nice inspirational quotes or are they all a load of rubbish?!

We all have a chapter we don't read aloud

@Muddlewitch I love this one Smile

I believe it was the great Kathy Burke who said:
"Be content. Clean your teeth, make sure your breath don't stink. Try not to be a cunt."
Think she covered all bases there and it cheers me up when I think about it. Grin

Your life isn’t yours if you always care what others think.

Be the woman you needed as a girl.

Doubt kills more dreams than failure ever will.

'Stand up for what you believe in, even if you are standing alone.'

So many good quotes.
I'm awfully unoriginal but I live by 'count your blessings' and 'there's always someone worse off than yourself'

Flightsoffancy · 19/10/2019 23:51

It’s dark because you are trying too hard.
Lightly child, lightly. Learn to do everything lightly.
Yes, feel lightly even though you’re feeling deeply.
Just lightly let things happen and lightly cope with them.
So throw away your baggage and go forward.
There are quicksands all about you, sucking at your feet,
trying to suck you down into fear and self-pity and despair.
That’s why you must walk so lightly.
Lightly my darling,
on tiptoes and no luggage,
not even a sponge bag,
completely unencumbered.

Grief is the price we pay for love is such a powerful quote. It reminds me to celebrate the loved ones I've lost not be sad

Your life is an occasion. Rise to it.

Monsters are real, and ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes they win.

The ones worth your time give you theirs.

Do your squats, eat your vegetables, and don't let boys be mean to you.

Be the woman you needed as a girl. That's what I've been doing Smile

Have courage and be kind - say this to my DD every single morning before school!!

It's ok to cry when you're hurt, it's ok to smash (some) things; but, wash your face, clean your mess and get up off the floor when you're done, you don't belong down there!

Not so much a quote but I love the advice!!

Nothappy599 · 19/10/2019 23:59

The real quote is. "Speak softly and carry a big stick"
But the Peanuts quote..
"Speak softly and carry a beagle"

HairToday79 · 20/10/2019 00:36

It's not what you say to people...it's how you make them feel that will stay with them.

Tillygetsit · 20/10/2019 00:43

What other people think of you is none of your business.

Inspiration exists, but it will find you working - Picasso

The Stoics are very quotable. Some of my favourites :

Everything we hear is an opinion, not a fact. Everything we see is a perception, not reality.

Look for the best, prepare for the opposite.

A man who can laugh at himself never runs out of things to laugh at!

"What goes around, comes around."

So very, very true.

Failure: when you're just not good enough

PapayaCoconut · 20/10/2019 06:53

'Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.' (Often misattributed to Winston Churchill.)

Nothings ever as bad as you think it will be
(Not really amazingly worded but something my dad always told me when I was growing up if I was nervous about doing something and it stuck)

I'm responsible for what I say, not what you understand.

Sparklesocks · 20/10/2019 10:53

This too shall pass.

It just makes me feel better when something difficult is happening or I’m going through a bad time, and helps remind me it’s a temporary state.
